ROH: Can the World's Greatest go All Night?
By MATT MACKINDER - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on Ring Of Honor on HDNet, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin team up in the main event, Jim Cornette rekindles his feud with Homicide and Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly battle the Bravados. Sounds good, so let’s hope ROH delivers.

Video packages rule the beginning of the show as we get three – the start of the Cornette and Homicide feud, Cole and O’Reilly talking about other teams in ROH and then one showcasing the Bravado Brothers.

The tag team videos segue us into the opening match of the night as Dave Prazak and Mike Hogewood call the action from Louisville.

Match #1 – Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly vs. The Bravado Brothers

Tag team wrestling lives in ROH and this match is proof of that. Good back and forth action that elicits the “This is awesome” chant from the crowd. I’d have to agree and I would be saying it, too, if the baby wasn’t sleeping…

Harlem knocks O’Reilly off the top rope and then Lance with a quick rollup after Harlem trips Cole and the Bravados get the dare-I-say upset win. Is this their first-ever win on TV?

Winners via pinfall: The Bravado Brothers

Next up is a recap of MsChif’s green mist attack on Daizee Haze after their match last week. Backstage, MsChif says she is in ROH to dominate since Daizee and Sara Del Rey complain about the lack of competition. She reminds me of Daffney from the old and forgettable WCW days. Speaking of Daffney, did anyone else hear that Crowbar is coming to ROH?

Now comes the Cornette-Homicide confrontation in the ring. Cornette says their past is water under the bridge, Homicide says he doesn't want to hear from him and just wants to be ROH champion again. Apparently, he’ll get a title shot against Roderick Strong at the 9th Anniversary Show next month in Chicago.

It would only make sense that Homicide sticks around and destroys a jobber next.

Match #2 – Homicide vs. Oryan Bishop

The second attempt at the Ace Crusher gets Homicide the squash here.

Winner via pinfall: Homicide

A replay of the Haas and Benjamin interview from a few weeks back follows and then more video where the All Night Express (Rhett Titus and Kenny King) give their thoughts on Haas and Benjamin. Good set-up for our main event.

Guess what? Another video package. Christopher Daniels talks about how he’s aging, but can still perform at the highest level. I think we’ve seen this before.

Next week, Daniels challenges Eddie Edwards for the ROH World TV title and we will finally get to witness what the Internet nerds have known for months.

Eddie is in the back with Kyle Durden. Eddie gives Daniels props, but says he wants to face the best. Mike Bennett then creeps in and mocks Eddie and says he's going to take the belt real soon.

Match #3 – Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin vs. The All Night Express

Wow. Just, well, wow.

Benjamin gets the hot tag to Haas, who cleans house. A belly-to-belly suplex on King gets just two. Titus with an axe handle on the back of Haas, who just throws him out of the ring. A powerslam on King gets another near-fall. King rebounds with a chin breaker (can one break their chin?) on Haas and then a tag to Titus. A double Irish Whip, but Shelton runs in and catches King. Titus and King both eat German Suplexes, but Rhett kicks out.

Shelton gets hurricanrana’d to the outside from King. Haas goes for the Haas of Pain on Titus, but King springboards in and clotheslines Haas. The Kings of Wrestling come down and give King a beatdown on the floor. Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli play the heel role perfectly. Haas and Benjamin capitalize and get their leapfrog axe handle on Titus. German suplex into a bridge on Rhett by Haas and we have a three count.

Winners via pinfall: Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin

The crowd was into this match and solidly behind Haas and Benjamin.

WEEKLY DISCLAIMER: I say this each week and I’ll say it yet again tonight. ROH was an excellent show this week and continues to show why it is not just another wrestling show on Monday night, but the only wrestling show on Monday night.

’Til next week, people, when we may see a title change. Right?
