WWE NXT: First rookie sent packing
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: After four weeks, it's our first Season 4 elimination. But before that can take place, we have a new concept on NXT this week. This time, the pros take part in a challenge. They have an over-the-top rope battle royal with the winner getting the opportunity to trade their rookie for another if they so choose. We also get some more good interaction between Daniel Bryan and Derrick Bateman. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Tucson, Ariz. Todd Grisham and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Striker is with the rookies on the stage. He says they can reveal the championship the winning rookie will compete for. It will be the WWE Tag Team Championship with their partner being their pro.

We're going to have a Pro's Challenge with the pros having a battle royal. The winner of the battle royal will have the opportunity to trade rookies if they want. Before Alberto Del Rio can get into the ring, Ricardo Rodriguez asks Del Rio to take his place and is granted that opportunity. He is immediately picked up by Daniel Bryan and is given a very long airplane spin. This is the longest airplane spin I've ever seen. Bryan puts him down, R-Truth punches him (he can barely stand) and then throws him over the top rope and to the floor.

After some action, Bryan is eliminated by Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler gives Bryan the bad mouth and then is chopped by Masters. Masters works Ziggler over and as that's happening, Ted DiBiase low-bridges Truth and eliminates him. DiBiase breaks up the Masterlock that Ziggler was in and Ziggler goes under the bottom rope. Masters dumps DiBiase to the apron and then Ziggler comes up and eliminates them both.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler grabs the mic and says he's never liked his rookie Jacob Novak. He says he's terrible. He's not anything but a blazer from express. He says he's getting rid of him for a winner. He wants Byron Saxton. Novak doesn't like this.

Match #1 - Byron Saxton vs. Jacob Novak

Novak is not happy and takes his aggression out on Saxton in the early going. Saxton, though, gets out of an armlock and hits a back elbow for two. Novak kicks him in the face. Nice side slam by Novak for two. Saxton fires up with punches and then slingshots Novak into the corner. Novak charges Saxton in the corner but Saxton moves and hits him with two straight clotheslines and a facebuster for two. Saxton runs into a big boot in the corner and Novak charges out of the corner with a clothesline. Novak looks to go for his move, but Saxton counters and slams Novak on the back of his head and takes the fall.

Winner via pinfall: Byron Saxton

R-Truth and Johnny Curtis kiss and make up following their small argument last week.

Daniel Bryan and Derrick Bateman are backstage and Bateman is practicing submissions. Bateman talks to Bryan about his deal with the Bella Twins. Bateman suggests a double date. Bryan declines until Bateman says he's buying. Bateman says they aren't only about submission wrestling, but also chicks and America, as he pulls down an American flag.

Saxton and Ziggler are talking about becoming the future tag champs. Ziggler reminds Saxton to stay away from his girlfriend because the last guy didn't. He offers this in friendship. Saxton says he's going to rip Novak apart in the open mic competition.

Striker says the Battle of the Mic Challenge is worth four, yes four, immunity points. They'll be competiting against other rookies.

First up is Brodus Clay against Johnny Curtis. They have 20 seconds each. Clay says all he can think about is how funny it was when he threw Curtis through the announce table last week, and you do know that. Curtis retorts by saying how funny it was when he punched him in the mouth. Clay says he never did that and then Curtis punches him right in the mouth. Both men have to be held back. The live audience picks Curtis as the winner.

Now we have Derrick Bateman against Byron Saxton. Bateman says Saxton's voice single-handedly destroyed ECW. He says whenever he looks at Saxton, all he can think about is he's the love child of Carleton Banks and a shorter, uglier Banks. Saxton responds by saying that when Bateman looks in the mirror, Saxton is always better. Bateman is declared the victor.

It's now Jacob Novak against Conor O'Brian. Novak says O'Brian cuts the cheese because he stinks. He says Jacob Novak makes this look good. O'Brian asks him if that's his nose or if he's eating a banana. He says he's going to have two entrances, one for himself, one for his nose. O'Brian is selected as the winner.

The three winners have 30 seconds to insult the two other competitors. Curtis says Bateman dissed himself by walking out here with that haircut. He says Bateman spends $250 a week on his perm. Curtis says he doesn't have anything bad to say about O'Brian because "he really likes rats." Hardy har har.

Bateman says Curtis is a whispy mustache away from being featured on "To Catch a Predator." He says there's no cheese for O'Brian in the end because he's going to be the winner.

O'Brian says Bateman's momma's so far that she jumped into the air and got stuck. Hahahahahaha. I laughed. He adds on that his momma's so fat her blood type is Ragu. Haha. He says Curtis is so stupid that he sits on the TV and watches the couch. This was great. So corny, but great.

The crowd selects O'Brian as the winner of the four immunity points.

Match #2 - Johnny Curtis vs. Brodus Clay

Fast start as both men are angry. Curtis beats Clay through the ropes. Back in the ring, Clay hits a big exploder suplex that sends Curtis flying. Clay in control now. Snap mare into a nerve hold. Yes, a nerve hold in 2011. Curtis fires up and gets a knockdown and a kick that drops Clay. Curtis to the top and he hits what appeared to be a flying forearm for two. Not quite AJ Styles. DiBiase, though, provides a distraction and Clay takes advantage by using a modified grip and choke slamming Curtis into the mat for the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Brodus Clay

It's time for Season 4's first elimination. The first wrestler going home, to no one's surprise, is Jacob Novak. Novak takes the mic and says this is a crushing blow. Ziggler calls himself a genius for getting rid of Novak and insults Masters. Masters tries to put him in the Masterlock but Ziggler bails to the back. Curtis wants more of Clay at ringside but is held back. They show a replay of the pro's reactions to the elimination and this is great. Ziggler is laughing uproariously and DiBiase and Del Rio are waving goodbye.
