Impact: Genesis build not going well
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on TNA Impact: The crisis between Matt Morgan and Mr. Anderson continues on this show, as the two end up on opposites sides of a tag team match, each with a mystery partner as assigned by Eric Bischoff. Also on the show, Douglas Williams and AJ Styles continue their feud, which, along with Jeff Jarrett, are the two saving graces of this show right now.
As always, tonight's taped show emanates from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Fla. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.
Mick Foley is out to start tonight's show. He immediately asks for Mr. Anderson to come to the ring. They discuss Anderson's situation. Foley says he wishes he had someone to tell him to stop and Anderson says he's been cleared. Anderson thinks Foley is calling him a liar, and basically challenges him to fight when Matt Morgan comes out. Of course, they'll meet at Genesis.
Morgan wants to know if Anderson is conning him or not. Anderson then says he and Morgan "don't have to wait 'til Sunday." What's Sunday? Because I sure as heck know Genesis isn't Sunday. God bless TNA. They start squaring off when Jeff Hardy's music hits. Hardy books them in a tag team match on opposite sides. We don't get their partners.
Match #1 - Robert Roode (Wall Street) vs. Chris Sabin (Detroit, Mich.)
Sabin drops Roode with a springboard crossbody to the outside. He throws him back in the ring and gets a two. Sabin tries to springboard into the ring from the apron but Roode catches him this time and plants him face-first into the mat. He goes to work. Sabin, though, takes it back over with a head-scissors takeover and then a springboard clothesline.
Sabin to the apron and goes for the springboard tornado DDT that he beat Roode with last week, but Roode puts a stop to that, whips Sabin and hits the Double R Spinebuster and gets the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Robert Roode
Match #2 - Rob Van Dam (Battle Creek, Mich.) vs. Robbie E. (Seaside Heights, NJ)
Robbie fist-pumps and tells RVD to do it. RVD does his trademark "RVD" pointing and then kicks Robbie. RVD is just killing him. He hits a modified Rolling Thunder and then finishes him off with a Five-Star Frog Splash.
Winner via pinfall: Rob Van Dam
Jeff Hardy pops up on the screen and says if RVD survives his hand-picked opponent at Genesis, he gets Hardy.
Kazarian is out. He runs down Jay Lethal's upbringing and his family. This brings Lethal out and he's running to the ring and Kazarian clubs him with a baton as he enters the ring. Lethal is down. Kazarian puts a watch on Lethal's chest and tells him "your time's almost up."
Match #3 - Strap Match - Velvet Sky (The Big Apple) vs. Sarita (Mexico City, Mexico)
Sarita is basically trying to run. Velvet is choking her throughly. Velvet is carrying her on her back and touching the corners. Of course, Sarita is touching them after. Then she stops Velvet from touching the fourth, throws her aside and hits the fourth.
Winner via corner touching: Sarita
Sarita puts the strap to Velvet after the match until Angelina Love makes the save.
Double J Double M A Open Challenge - Jeff Jarrett (Fighting out of Hendersonville, Tenn.) vs. Amazing Red's Brother (Brooklyn, NY)
Time for my favorite segment of the show! Jarrett says last week, Amazing Red said he had his baby brother to face Jarrett. Jarrett thinks he's getting a little kid. Instead, he's getting a jacked up man who is much bigger than Red. Jarrett is looking at Red when he comes out and Red is jumping up and down in glee. Jarrett is not happy.
Red's Brother is having some success, forcing Jarrett to get a rope break twice. Then Jarrett gets going with some strikes. He tries to go for the ankle lock but Brother reverses it on it and locks it in. Jarrett crawls near the ropes and Gunner and Murphy pull Jarrett out. Red takes out Gunner. Jarrett goes to grab his guitar, but the bell rings. Red takes the guitar and smashes it. Jarrett is pulled away by Team Jarrett.
Match #4 - AJ Styles (Gainesville, Ga.) & Rob Terry (Cardiff, Wales) vs. Douglas Williams (The United Kingdom) & Magnus (The United Kingdom)
Styles eye-rakes Magnus and then says he wants Williams. Crowd into it before they even lock up, but then Styles tags in Terry before they even touch.
Styles back in after awhile. Exploder suplex connects. Magnus in now. High back drop hits. Running powerslam hits but Terry breaks up the fall. All four men in but Styles hits Williams with a springboard forearm. Then he and Terry make quick work of Magnus and Styles finishes Magnus off with the Rolling Chaos Theory. Ruh roh!
Winners via pinfall: AJ Styles & Rob Terry
Madison Rayne is out. She's in full evening gown like she's Miss America. She's escorted by four tuxedoed men who carry her to the ring. She drones on and on and on about nothing. Crowd chanting "shut up." Now she finally starts to talk about Mickie James. She calls her a "hardcore country slut." Of course this brings James out. James slaps her, Taz suggests she is bringing it "trailer park style." Then James rips the expensive gown off Rayne, leaving her in her bra and panties. Rayne runs off.
Match #5 - Mr. Anderson (Green Bay, Wisc.) & Brother Ray (New York City) vs. Matt Morgan (Fairfield, Conn.) & Brother Devon (New York City)
This match is infuriating me. Mick Foley is out on commentary, then Gunner and Murphy come for him. He puts Socko on one of them, but then we miss Foley getting beatdown BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO GO TO REACTION. I'm so glad Reaction is finished. They drag Foley away.
Because of all that, we miss the first violence between Ray and Devon. After that, Morgan hits Anderson with a discus clothesline to the back of the head and pins him. Brutal.
Winners via pinfall: Matt Morgan & Brother Devon
