ROH: A pair of outstanding matches
By MATT MACKINDER - SLAM! Wrestling

This week on Ring Of Honor on HDNet, Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards are both in action. Sounds like a very good way to spend a Monday night.

"The Prodigy" Mike Bennett and his manager, Brutal Bob, are ringside showing their tickets. My guess is Bennett gets involved in the show tonight, but that's just a guess.

Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak are ringside we get to the action from The Arena in South Philadelphia.

Match #1 – Eddie Edwards vs. Colt Cabana - ROH World TV Title Match

This match has a 15-minute time limit and we get a cute little clock in the corner to make us remember.

Great chemistry here as these guys mesh well with one another. Lots of counter moves and several near falls.

Just as the clock hits the 14-minute mark, Cabana charges the champ in the corner, Edwards moves and pins Colt with a sweet O'Connor Roll into a bridge.

Winner via pinfall ... and still ROH World TV champion: Eddie Edwards

Bennett jumps the barricade and applauds both men. He wants a handshake from Eddie, but pulls his hand back at the last second and walks out.

Christopher Daniels, noted by Prazak as a full-time roster member now, is in the back and says he is going to show the world how good he really is. Most fans already know, but I won't turn down watching this dude on a regular basis, ya know? He compares himself to Cal Ripken and Randy Couture and says they still had/have it. I hope he isn't taking about hair...

Back in the ring, Kyle Durden is with Kevin Steen and Steve Corino. Steen takes the mic and talks to the El Generico mask in his hand as if it really is El Generico. I love this maniacal Steen character. Steen discusses the last two events in New York City with Generico (Final Battle 2009 with Generico and Glory By Honor IX against Generico, for those keeping score at home). Steen says Dec. 18 at Final Battle 2010 will be the last time and throws the mask down.

More promotional material as the women’s dream partner tag match at Final Battle is announced and Amazing Kong is named as Daizee Haze’s partner. Daizee and and Sara Del Rey get air time and go over the rivalry between the two.

Match #2 – El Generico vs. Bobby Shields

Typical 60-second squash. Brainbuster gets the duke for Generico over the former Pro Wrestling Ohio tag champ. I only know that because we get PWO on DirecTV. And we live in Michigan.

Winner via pinfall: El Generico

Post-match, Generico sees the Steen T-shirt (you know, the one with the bloody Generico head) on the timekeeper’s table. He throws it into the ring with a chair and props the shirt over the opened chair and then hits poor Shields with a brainbuster onto the chair. Ouch!

Next up is a brutal, brutal segment. Shane Hagadorn, the Kings of Wrestling and a jobber (I think) are in the ring. Chris Hero says that he arranged for a Kings of Wrestling public workout with the no-namer, who I think he called Blaine Rage, or something like that. Claudio Castagnoli is the "referee." I won't go into detail, but Rage isn't supposed to get in any offense, but when he does, he gets triple-teamed and left in the ring.

Durden is in the back with ROH World champion Roderick Strong and Truth Martini. It's announced that next week we will see Roddy go 1-on-1 with Austin Aries. So who's the face?

Match #3 – Davey Richards vs. Erick Stevens w/ Prince Nana & Mr. Ernesto Osiris

Stevens should have more of a push in ROH. Who agrees with me? Maybe this match starts it? Maybe not? Hmmm...

Just a great match and like the opening bout, lots of good chemistry and counter-wrestling.

Stevens gets a two-count after a discus lariat and goes for the Doctor Bomb. Davey counters and rolls into the Achilles Lock. Stevens tries to escape, but Davey counters it and turns it into a figure-four grapevined ankle lock and Stevens taps out.

Winner via submission: Davey Richards

Awesome show this week. Just superb.

WEEKLY DISCLAIMER: I say this each week and I’ll say it yet again tonight. ROH was an excellent show this week and continues to show why it is not just another wrestling show on Monday night, but the only wrestling show on Monday night.

'Til next week, folks.
