WWE NXT: AJ sent home in a shocker
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: With only two weeks left in the show, another rookie diva is going home. And despite winning the best match of the season and another competition, it's AJ that has been eliminated from the competition on this night. The looks on the faces of everybody following the elimination said it all. A complete travesty.

And we are "LIVE!" from Jacksonville, Fla. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Striker brings out our three remaining rookie divas — Kaitlyn, Naomi and AJ. It's time for the first rookie diva competition and it's WWE Trivia. This went so well in Season 2.

First round is "All Things NXT." The first question is "Who won Season 1 of NXT" and Naomi gets Wade Barrett. Next is "Who were the first female NXT pros" and AJ gets LayCool. Next up is "Who was the name of Aksana's immigration officer" and AJ gets it with Nick Dickapopolos. "Who was Daniel Bryan's pro?" and AJ gets it with The Miz.

Next stage is "All Things WWE." First question is what arena held the first WrestleMania and AJ gets it with "Madison Square Garden." Next question is "Who defeated Shawn Michaels and ended his career" and AJ gets it with The Undertaker. "Who reigned as women's champion for 27 years" and AJ gets Moolah. Next up, "The WWE's annual visit to the troops is called what…" and AJ gets Tribute to the Troops. Final question is "Which WWE superstar is known as 'The Game?'" and AJ gets Triple H. She kills everybody and wins it, but there will be no immunity tonight.

Match #1 - Kaitlyn vs. Nikki Bella

All Cole wants to talk about here is what's the deal with the Bellas and Daniel Bryan.

Headlock takeover for Bella and then a dropkick to the knee. Bella to work on the left knee. A "Nikki sucks" chant actually breaks out. I'm as shocked as you are. Bella slams Kaitlyn's knee into the mat and shoves heir not the corner and goes back to work. Bella charges to the corner and eats a back elbow. Kaitlyn fires up with some clotheslines and Bella catches her with an X-Factor and that's it.

Winner via pinfall: Nikki Bella

Match #2 - Naomi vs. AJ

Head scissors takeover for AJ, but Naomi comes back with a butt bump. AJ takes a walk on the outside. She comes back, they shake heads and Naomi turns her and hits a dropkick to the back. Body slam lands and then a nice jumping splits leg drop. Face buster and then an enziguri gets two for Naomi.

AJ fires up and hits a tilt-a-whirl DDT. She's slow to the cover and only gets two. Back elbow lands for AJ, then a clothesline and a dropkick for two. AJ comes off the ropes but runs into a spinning heel kick for two. AJ comes out of the corner and locks in the Octopus, the same move she used to finish Aksana last week, and Naomi is forced to tap.

Winner via submission: AJ

By far and away the best match of this season. By a country mile. It's not a high standard, but the crowd actually went from dead to really into the match, so that's probably all you need to know.

It's time for our final competition — Last Sumo Standing. They introduce the rookie divas again and Kaitlyn rolls down the ramp leading commentary to note that's how ring announcer Tony Chimel gets to the ring each week. I think they have literally every single ref on the roster working this competition.

Kaitlyn and Naomi are up first. Tentative start and Naomi goes after Kaitlyn but tumbles over Kaitlyn and eliminates herself first. Now it's time for Kaitlyn and AJ. They engage in an epic battle battle leading Striker to surmise "this is like King Kong Bundy versus the One Man Gang." This is quite the epic battle here. We actually get a standup after AJ rides Kaitlyn amateur-style. Then Striker gets in an Abdullah the Butcher reference. After the restart, Kaitlyn gets AJ down and finally bumps her out of the circle, winning the competition. Riveting television.

Striker is backstage with the three remaining rookie divas. He asks them which of the others should be eliminated. AJ says Naomi because she just beat her tonight and wants to one-on-one with AJ. Kaitlyn says the same thing. Naomi says nothing's going to happen between AJ and Kaitlyn because Kaitlyn can't wrestler, so Kaitlyn should go home.

It's time for our elimination. To recap, we have Kaitlyn, AJ and Naomi left. The WWE pros and the WWE Universe have decided that it's AJ that's going home. Wow.

AJ's voice is noticeably breaking as she cuts her farewell promo. Kaitlyn looks distraught, as well. AJ says nothing is going to stop her from getting in that ring and nothing's going to stop her and she's going to accomplish all of her dreams. Her pro, Primo, is not happy. If Gorilla Monsoon was still with us, he'd most certainly call this a miscarriage of justice.

Next week, WWE's next breakout diva will be crowned as Kaitlyn and Naomi go at it.
