Maryse Ouellet isn't quite sure how the crowd will react when she returns to Montreal for a WWE show on Halloween Sunday.
As a French Canadian, she can't wait to get into the ring at Bell Centre, with about 100 fans and family in the crowd. Hard to imagine the Montreal fans would boo one of their own, especially one so beautiful.
But Maryse hasn't exactly made a habit out of trying to gain the favour of fans. Quite the opposite, in fact.
"It's my first time back there. I am a bad girl and I will play my character," says Maryse. "But I don't know ... I don't know how they will react. I'm the only girl in WWE from there. If I get cheered, that's a reaction. And that's good."
After competing in the WWE Diva Search, Oullet was sent to the company's developmental territory and debuted in 2006 on the big stage. She hasn't looked back, twice winning the Divas belt. Her character has plenty of sass.
"People always say bad things about girls like Kim Kardasian and Paris Hilton," says Ouellet. "But then if they see them on the street, it's totally: 'Hey can I have your autograph' or 'can I get a picture with you.'
"That's how I wanted my character to come out."
She had grown up watching wrestling, fascinated by stars of the day like Sable.
"Sable was a girl you just wanted to slap in the face and that's what I wanted to do with my character," says Ouellet.
Could we ever see a kinder, gentler Maryse?
"It's easy to make people hate you," she says. "It's an act. If I want to be mean, I can be mean. But if I have to be the good girl one day, then the fans will like me for being good."
Along the way, Ouellet says it's been a great ride.
"I'm really happy with what I do," she says.
Then she laughs. "And I want to become a bigger star."
