WWE Superstars: Nexus, tag champs add star power to show
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE Superstars: In one of the more star-powered editions of Superstars in sometime, fans are treated to an appearance by the Nexus, who cut a promo about Wade Barrett's title shot Sunday. In the main event, WWE Tag Team Champions Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes battle Chris Masters and MVP in a nontitle affair. Should be a good one!
This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG, V)
Match #1 - Santino Marella & Kozlov vs. Jimmy & Jey Uso
Kozlov with a takedown and then shoulders in the corner. He brings in Santino and Kozlov throws him into Mr. Uso. Quick tags and isolation from the faces here. Uso drops out of a power slam and chop blocks Kozlov but he comes off the ropes and gets bopped right out of the ring. But he wrings Kozlov's neck on the rope and the Usos take over.
We're back and the Usos remain in control. Jimmy lands a huge headbutt to the head, then one to the body. Kozlov kicks out of the pin at two. Usos isolate Kozlov but he finally tags in Santino after a blackbody drop. Santino eats a kick but gives a hip-toss. He hits the big salute chop and the Usos hit each other breaking up the cover. More distraction, but the Usos miscue again, hitting a superkick. Then Santino loads up the Cobra and hits it. Good night.
Winners via pinfall: Santino Marella & Kozlov
Match #2 - William Regal (Blackpool, England) vs. Darren Young (Miami, Fla.)
Young is sporting shorter hair. It's a mini-afro.
Young hanging in there with Regal. He hits a big shot to the back but Regal takes control and goes to work. He drops a knee right on Young's face for two. With whips Young into the corner and just punches him in the face on the way back. Young gets going and tries a running forearm but Regal just swats him aside. They battle for position and Young goes for the full nelson slam, but Regal pushes him off and hits the knee trembler and that'll do it.
Winner via pinfall: William Regal
Nexus is out for their first-ever appearance on Superstars. Wade Barrett says when he beats Randy Orton for the WWE Championship on Sunday at Bragging Rights, he'll be the 40th WWE Champion in history and his name will be etched with the likes of Triple H, John Cena and Shawn Michaels. He talks about John Cena and then says he is simply better than everyone he mentioned. He says that, as leader of the Nexus, he will become the most dominant WWE Champion in history.
Match #3 - Drew McIntyre (Ayr, Scotland) & Cody Rhodes (Marietta, Ga.) vs. Chris Master (Los Angeles, Calif.) & MVP (Miami, Fla.)
Story early is that Rhodes doesn't want to be hit in the face so he covers up and takes shots to the body to avoid it. He brings in McIntyre and he has trouble with Masters, but a low shot turns the tides. They double team Masters in the corner but Masters fires out when they start congratulating each other too much with a double clothesline. Rhodes ends up on the outside and Masters clotheslines McIntyre over the top and onto Rhodes.
Rhodes and McIntyre are in control of Masters working over the leg. They have him completely isolated from MVP. Finally Masters is able to tag MVP. He comes in on Rhodes and hits three straight German suplexes. He turns his back on Rhodes and Rhodes takes advantage and hits the drop-down uppercut but MVP fires right back with strikes. Knee drop connects followed by the Ballin' Elbow. It all breaks down and both McIntyre and Rhodes end up in the Masterlock. They dispatch of Masters. MVP gets tied up with McIntyre and sends him out of the ring but Rhodes comes up from behind, grabs the head and hits Cross Rhodes for the pin.
Winners via pinfall: Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre
