Superstars: Smackdown stars square off in main event
By MATT JOHNSON - SLAM! Wrestling

WWE is trying to weather the storm, as Raw came in with a rating under 2.4. One easy improvement would be to bring Jim Ross back. Honestly, he made big shows feel special. With Ross announcing a show, non-wrestling fans could walk in and realize the show was special. The current announce team is very uninspiring at best.

Other than the announce team, they should consider a format change. Raw feels very cookie cutter each week. Those who watch the show and cover the show can predict what is going to happen because the show follows a similar format each week. It is time to consider a different approach. Now on to Superstars.

Match #1 – Alicia Fox & Jillian Hall vs. The Bella Twins

Jillian Hall of course sang before the match. The Bellas take control early. Jillian fights back with a kick to the gut. Alicia tags in and works over the arm of one of the Bellas (it is unclear which one is in the ring). Jillian hits a fireman’s drop and gets a two count. Jillian covers one of the Bellas, but the other one does the switch and rolls her up for the pin.

Winners via pinfall: The Bellas

Clips air from NXT. They have a race where they roll Hornswoggle around in a wheelbarrow. Cole made the statement, “This girl needs a chill pill.” Wow.

Did you know that more than 60,000 teens are expected to participate in this year’s Wrestlemania Reading Challenge.

They re-air the match between Chris Jericho and Randy Orton from Raw. For a full description of the events on Raw, check out the Raw report on SLAM! Wrestling’s home page.

A commercial airs promoting the move of Smackdown to Syfy. Grisham and Stryker talk up both Smackdown and Hell in a Cell.

Match #3 – Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger

Jack Swagger tries to apply an ankle lock very early in the match. Swagger works Kofi over in the corner. Kofi recovers and jumps to the top rope and delivers some punches. Swagger recovers with a kick to the knee and some shoulder blocks. Swagger tries to apply the ankle lock, but Kofi forces him outside the ring. Swagger walks around outside the ring, making the most of the referee’s count. Inside the ring, Kofi attempts a flying cross body, but Swagger responds with a kick to the side.

After the break, Swagger front suplexes Kofi into the top rope. Swagger applies an abdominal stretch. Swagger then tries to use the ropes to aid the abdominal stretch, but Kofi escapes. Swagger grabs Kofi’s ankle, but Kofi hits a kick. Kofi hits a punch from the top rope and some chops. After hitting the boom drop, Kofi hits a flying cross body for a two count. Swagger catches Kofi and throws him into the turnbuckle.

Swagger tries to apply the ankle lock, but Kofi rolls him up for the two count. Swagger goes for the gut wrench powerbomb. Kofi escapes, but Swagger gets to him and applies the ankle lock. Kofi gets to the ropes, but Swagger refuses to let go. Referee Charles Robinson counts to five and warns Swagger several times, but Swagger refuses to let go. Swagger is disqualified and Kofi gets the win.

Winner via disqualification: Kofi Kingston

After the match, Swagger applies an ankle lock to Kofi outside the ring. Stryker says Swagger is trying to send a message to the WWE Board of Directors. In a wrestling promotion based on logic, Swagger would be suspended. If Swagger was to be suspended, it would actually make his post-match attack seem more important. This episode of Superstars was very skipable.
