Impact: RVD returns, Bound For Glory shaping up
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on TNA Impact: Things are developing for Bound For Glory. Tonight, Rob Van Dam makes his return to Impact and he wants Abyss at TNA's biggest show of the year. Elsewhere, the faction war between EV2 and Fortune comes to a head as it's announce the two teams will meet in Lethal Lockdown.

As always, tonight's taped show emanates from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Fla. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.

Match #1 - Rob Terry (Cardiff, Wales) vs. Abyss (Parts Unknown)

Abyss gets off to a good start by attacking Terry before the bell. Terry fires up with a slam and a power slam. Abyss, though rakes his eyes and hits a side slam for two. He hits the reeling Terry with the choke slam for two. They go to the outside and Abyss takes one of the steel rails and hits Terry with it. That's it.

Winner via disqualification: Rob Terry

Abyss continues the attack when Rob Van Dam comes through the crowd. He is held back by security. Abyss grabs Janice as security and agents come back. Security is wielding chairs. They push Abyss backstage.

RVD hits one of the security members and heads into the ring. He has a mic. He says he isn't going anywhere and he asks Eric Bischoff to come out.

Bischoff is in the ring and RVD is talking to him. He's upset about being stripped of the title. He wishes the three men in the world title match luck and says he wants the first shot. He says he's here to talk to Bischoff about his physical condition. He says he doesn't want to appear vulnerable. He says his doctor has already given him a date of clearance. Conveniently enough, that date is 10/10/10 and he wants Abyss. Bischoff says consider it done.

RVD takes off and in steps The Pope. Pope says that since Bischoff is in the mood to give favors, he wants to know what is going on. He says he can smell crap a mile away and Bischoff is full of it. He runs down his accomplishments as of late and says Bischoff is a con man and he knows it. Bischoff says they need to go to the back and discuss this like professionals and he walks off.

Match #2 - Jeremy Buck (Los Angeles, Calif.) vs. Chris Sabin (Detroit, Mich.)

Right away, Max Buck is sent to the back. Buck hits a springboard X-Factor for two early on, working the injured neck of Sabin. Buck really concentrating on the neck. Buck goes for a tornado DDT, but Sabin pushes him off, hits a kick and rolls him up for the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Chris Sabin

Max Buck returns after the match and they beat down Sabin, hitting another draping DDT.

Match #3 - TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship - (c ) Taylor Wilde & Hamada vs. Lacey Von Erich & Velvet Sky

Hamada in and she goes for the moonsault, but Sky moves. Wilde in and she tries a roll-up and small package, both for two. Sky counters with a backslide for two. Both tag. Hamada and Von Erich in. Fisherman's suplex for two for Hamada. Wilde in and she knocks Von Erich down for two.

This next sequence can only be seen to be believed, as this match just falls off the highest of cliffs. Von Erich mounts Wilde's face in the corner and punches (this after slipping off the rope the first time). They try a rana, but it is completely botched and Wilde just flips herself over for no reason (outside of doing the move). Von Erich with a pin attempt after this, Wilde kicks out and Hamada just comes flying in out of nowhere after Wilde has already kicked out and does a roll. Sky gives Hamada a bulldog and Wilde pushes Sky out of the ring. Von Erich pushes Hamada out of the ring and referee "Blind" Andrew Thomas goes to check on them. Wilde's down in the corner and Von Erich is lining her up (for God knows what) when Madison Rayne comes in and drills Von Erich from behind with the motorcycle helmet. This knocks Von Erich down for a split second, then she pops right back up and starts staggering around. Wilde takes this opportunity to hit her with a kick and pin her. Thank goodness.

Winners via pinfall and STILL TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions: Taylor Wilde & Hamada

Dixie Carter is at commentary. She says on the live Impact on 10/7 there will be a $100,000 battle royal featuring everybody on the Bound For Glory card.

Match #4 - The Pope (Harlem, NY) vs. Samoa Joe (Isle of Samoa)

On the line tonight: If Pope beats Joe, he's in the Bound For Glory main event after his discussion with Bischoff.

Joe works Pope over until Pope catches Joe with a reverse neckbreaker off the ropes. Pope pulls down the kneepads when Jeff Jarrett comes down the ramp clapping. This distracts Pope. He drills Joe in the corner. Jarrett pounds on the mat. Then Sting and Kevin Nash come down and attack Jarrett. Joe counters Pope and locks in the Coquina Clutch and Pope goes out.

Winner via pinfall: Samoa Joe

Joe joins the brawl outside. They could be airing last week's brawl between these four and I wouldn't know the difference.

EV2 is backstage and Tommy Dreamer says that Dixie Carter told them that they will face Fortune in Lethal Lockdown at Bound For Glory and tonight's ladder match between Sabu and AJ Styles will determine who has the man advantage.

Mr. Anderson is out. He immediately panders to the audience. I immediately throw up in my mouth a little bit. He wants Kurt Angle to come out. It's one big mutual admiration society here. Angle says at Bound For Glory, he will not lose. They shake hands and Anderson raises Angle's hand and says, "Kurt Angle, for the very last time." This does not make Angle happy.

Backstage, Ric Flair gives AJ Styles a peptalk and gets "iced" and has to pound what appears to be a Smirnoff Ice. What is going on here? I am not making this up, this really happened. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching a wrestling show that's happening in an alternate dimension when I watch this show.

Backstage, The Pope has joined Kevin Nash and Sting in their pursuit against Eric Bischoff.

Match #5 - Ladder Match - Sabu (Bombay, Mich.) vs. AJ Styles (Gainesville, Ga.)

Sabu in control. He drills Styles with the ladder and then hits move off a chair. Sabu hits a chair-assisted crossbody that sends both he and Styles over the top rope. Ric Flair tries to intervene but Mick Foley tries to chase him off, only to be hit from behind by Matt Morgan. This brings out Tommy Dreamer, but Kazarian cuts him off. Now all of EV2 is out and this brings out Fortune.

In the ring, Styles sets up the ladder with Sabu down in the corner. Sabu knocks the ladder down and then, and I don't know why, does a a springboard dive out onto the security guards. But I guess he's OK as he's right back in the ring climbing. Robert Roode cuts him off and moves the ladder only to walk into a Gore from Rhino. James Storm takes care of Rhino with a Last Call Superkick. Now both Sabu and Styles are on the ladder. Sabu shoves Styles off and appears to have the match won, but Storm pulls him off and smashes the beer bottle over his head. He then assists Styles up the ladder the grab the key.

Winner via key-grabbing: AJ Styles

Backstage, RVD and Jeff Hardy are talking when the camera is knocked over and it sounds like Abyss is attacking Hardy, telling him "you're going the same place as your little buddy went." He screams 10/10/10 and we go to…

Abyss carries the lifeless Hardy to the ring and dumps him in. Abyss says RVD was never supposed to come back and the fact that he did only proves that RVD is as ignorant and pathetic as he thought. He says they told him to eliminate RVD from TNA, but he made one mistake: He left him breathing. He says he'll correct this mistake at Bound For Glory. Abyss says Janice wants another piece of RVD tonight. He implores RVD to come to the ring and he does. He has a chair. He hits Abyss with it. His run is quickly ended as Abyss railroads him. Abyss picks up Janice and we're out of time.
