RAW: Edge, Jericho fight to keep PPV spots
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

Nexus is down two members after giving Darren Young the boot, and Skip Sheffield going down with an injury. It will be interesting to see if any of the Rookies from NXT Season 2 join the ranks as we join Monday Night RAW in Washington D.C.

Speaking of Nexus, they are already in the ring when the show starts. Wade Barrett says it is fitting they are in Washington since it is the site of so many historic rallies and ground breaking speeches. Barrett says they destroyed a WWE institution in The Undertaker. David Otunga calls Nexus the new phenoms of the WWE. Michael Tarver then talks about winning the elimination match against an all-WWE team. Heath Slater mentions how he pinned the WWE champion. Justin Gabriel brags that he hit the 450 splash on the Undertaker and John Cena in the same night. Barrett then says he took the venom of the Viper when he pinned Randy Orton. He goes on to say he will win at Night of Champions. Randy Orton interrupts and walks out on stage.

Orton says what he took away from last week was the fact that he took out two members of Nexus in less than 30 seconds. The Viper tells Barrett he is making it his business to hit him with an RKO. Barrett tells him to come to the ring and try it now. The General Manager fires off an email, and Michael Cole tells us that tonight Nexus will have to wrestle individually. Justin Gabriel will take on John Cena. Randy Orton will face Wade Barrett. Nexus is also banned from ringside during both matches.

Chris Jericho heads to the ring for his match, but is interrupted by the General Manager. Jericho and Edge are going to be disciplined for their actions last week. Jericho and Edge must both win their respective matches to keep their slots in the six pack challenge at Night of Champions.

Match #1 – Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison

Jericho jumps Morrison and stomps away at him in the corner. Morrison ducks a clothesline, and is able to roll Jericho up. Jericho kicks out, and knocks Morrison from the ring. We go to commercial.

After the break, Jericho has Morrison in a head lock. Jericho hits a suplex and covers. Morrison kicks out and hits a clothesline. He follows with a spin kick and a backbreaker. Jericho catches a kick and tries to get Morrison over for the walls. Morrison counters and breaks the hold. Jericho goes for a Codebreaker, but Morrison holds the ropes to block it. Jericho charges Morrison in the corner, but misses and catches the ring post. Morrison looks to hit Starship Pain, but Jericho rolls away, and quickly locks in the Walls of Jericho. Morrison breaks the hold by getting to the ropes. Jericho takes Morrison up the turnbuckle, but Morrison fights him off. Morrison connects with Starship Pain. He covers and gets the three count to beat Jericho.

Winner via pinfall: John Morrison

Match #2 – Melina vs. Alicia Fox – WWE Diva’s Championship Match

Before the match, Alicia tells Melina not to worry about Night of Champion because she is going to win the Diva’s title tonight. Well, Melina hits the Sunset Split and retains her title, and her spot at Night of Champions.

Winner via pinfall: Melina

Josh Matthews is in the back with The Miz, who says tonight is all about The Miz and his journey on the road to awesome. Matthews asks what is under the black sheet, Miz tells him to take a hike.

Edge tells Zack Ryder that he doesn’t think he should have to put his spot on the line, tonight. Zack wants to be Edge’s opponent tonight, so Edge pleads for the GM to honor the request. If he doesn’t hear Ryder’s music he will destroy the laptop at ringside.

Ted DiBiase is on the phone with someone he loves, when Maryse barges in and wants to know who he is on the phone with. Ted says it is his mom. Maryse tells Ted she found the note he wrote in the back on the limo. DiBiase says the note could be for him. Maryse starts scolding him in French, so Ted walks off.

Match #3 – Justin Gabriel vs. John Cena

Gabriel applies a head lock that Cena quickly breaks free of. Cena locks in a head scissors on the ground. Cena runs into an elbow in the corner, and Cena falls to the floor. Gabriel rolls Cena back into the ring, and hits a slingshot senton, nearly picking up the fall. Gabriel hits a body press off the ropes, and follows with a side leg sweep. Gabriel locks in a submission, but Cena powers out. Gabriel reverses it with a gut wrench. Cena rolls away from a springboard moonsault, and hits Gabriel with the sidewalk slam. Cena follows with the five knuckle shuffle. Gabriel slips out of the Attitude Adjustment and hits a version of the Rock Bottom. Gabriel drags Cena to the corner, but Cena pops up and cuts Gabriel off. Cena hits the AA from the second rope. He covers Gabriel and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: John Cena

The Miz is in the ring with something under wraps. He talks about how everyone told him he had no right to be in the WWE. Miz talks about being on Tough Enough after being on reality TV. Miz says he heard the voices asking why is he here. So he became the host of Smackdown! Miz pretty much tells us his history. Miz says this has all led up to the moment, and reveals the new cover of WWE magazine, which he is the cover boy. Miz wants everyone to admit they were wrong.

Daniel Bryan walks down to rain on the Miz’s parade. Bryan says he came out to congratulate him. Miz says Bryan hasn’t accomplished anything. Bryan tells Miz that he can beat him. Miz says Bryan doesn’t deserve a shot at the US title. Bryan says he can beat him, make him tap, and become the new US Champion. Miz says he can annihilate him. Bryan wants an answer on a title match. Miz accepts. Miz goes for a cheap shot, but Bryan blocks it and locks in a submission. Alex Riley jumps in the ring to save his mentor, but gets kicked in the head for his trouble. Miz is dumped from the ring, and Bryan slaps the Lebell Lock on Riley.

After letting Riley go, Bryan is left alone in the ring with the giant magazine cover. Bryan kicks it as Miz backs up the ramp.

Match #4 – Edge vs. The Great Khali w/ Runjin Singh

Well Edge doesn’t get his wish to face Zack Ryder. So Edge tries to make good on his promise to destroy the computer, but the ref orders Edge back to the ring.

Edge mocks Khali from the floor, as the ref counts to ten. Edge rolls into the ring to break the count, and continues to mock Khali. Edge grabs Singh, but Khali grabs Edge. He chases Edge up the ramp, but Edge kicks him and runs back to the ring. Edge beats the ten count, but Khali is nowhere near the ring. Khali gets counted out.

Winner via countout: Edge

The GM fires off an email letting Edge know that his victory will not be recognized. Instead he will now face Khali in an Over the Top Rope Challenge.

Match #5 – Edge vs. The Great Khali – No DQ Over the Top Rope Challenge

Khali knocks Edge to the floor with a clothesline, and then chops him in the corner. Edge is whipped toward the ropes, and slides underneath to the floor. Khali follows, by going over the top rope. Michael Cole flips out that the match should be over. Edge is tossed through the ropes again, and Khali goes to get him. This time Edge hits him from the floor, and Khali tumbles to the floor. Edge slides back into the ring and wins the match.

Winner: Edge

Josh Matthews tries to get a word with Chris Jericho. Matthews asks what his plans are, but Jericho just sits there staring off into space. John Morrison sits down next to him, telling him things will get better. Jericho doesn’t want to hear it.

WWE Champion Sheamus joins Cole and King Lawler at the announce table for commentary. After the break, John Cena and Edge have also joined the announce position.

Match #6 – Wade Barrett vs. Randy Orton

Orton beats Barrett into the corner, and then whips him across the ring and takes him down with a clothesline. Barrett tries to escape to the floor, but Orton follows, smashing his head off the announce table. Back in the ring, Orton stomps on the mid-section of Barrett. Young taunts Barrett from the ring steps, allowing Orton to hit a surprise RKO. Orton covers and gets the win.

After the bell, Darren Young enters to ring to celebrate, only to get hit with an RKO. Sheamus and Edge leap to the apron. Orton dodges and spears, and hits Edge with an RKO.
