RAW: Sheamus names No. 1 contender
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

In case you didn’t hear, WWE made history this week with their first show ever in China. What does that mean for us? Well, it means that Monday Night RAW is not live tonight, and it was taped in Los Angeles, where it was last week. In other news, the guest host may have quietly ridden into the sunset, since no one is scheduled to host tonight.

WWE Champion Sheamus heads to the ring, as we get a recap of the beating he took from Randy Orton last week.

Sheamus calls the children of America spoiled, little runts, just like Randy Orton. Sheamus isn’t pleased that the crowd encouraged Orton on last week, and he wants the GM to punish Randy Orton for his actions. Sheamus doesn’t want Orton to get another title shot.

The General Manager fires off an email, telling Sheamus he has no problem with him. Since he successfully defended his title, Sheamus will be rewarded. He will get to watch a series of matches, and then get to choose his opponent at Night of Champions. The first match begins right now.

Match #1 – Edge vs. R-Truth

Sheamus takes a seat on his throne on the stage, as Edge heads to the ring.

R-Truth tosses Edge to the floor with a head scissors, but misses a dive over the ropes. Edge slams him into the security barrier, before tossing him back into the ring. Edge hits a cross body across the back of Truth, crushing him into the ropes. Edge and Truth shoot off the ropes, and then take each other out with cross body blocks. Both men are down on the mat. R-Truth ducks a clothesline, and then hits a forearm. Truth hip tosses Edge in the middle of the ring, but Edge takes advantage of a show boating Truth, hitting him with a neck breaker. Edge looks for the spear, but Truth leap frogs him. Truth goes for the scissor kick, but Edge counters it, and finishes Truth off with a spear.

Winner via pinfall: Edge

Edge addresses Sheamus after the match, telling him until he beats a nine-time champion, the Rated R Superstar, he hasn’t beaten anybody.

Match #2 – The Great Khali w. Runjin Singh vs. Chris Jericho

Khali shrugs off the Codebreaker, and proceeds to slam Jericho all over the ring. Jericho ducks a big boot, and Khali gets hung up on the ropes. Jericho tries to lock in the Walls of Jericho, and finally gets him turned over. Khali taps.

Winner via submission: Chris Jericho

After the match, Jericho tries to sell Sheamus on his credentials. Khali shuts Jericho up by smacking him off the top turnbuckle.

Josh Matthews wants John Cena’s thoughts on The Miz. Cena doesn’t regret putting Daniel Bryan on the team, and now The Miz has shown his true colors. Cena plans on shutting The Miz up, tonight.

Match #3 – Jillian Hall vs. Melina

Melina retains her Divas title after hitting the Last Call.

Winner via pinfall: Melina

After the match, LayCool show up on the TitanTron. They tell Melina they will be at RAW next week, and they have an offer for her.

Josh Matthews asks The Miz if he cares to respond to John Cena’s claims that he almost cost Team WWE a win. Miz says Cena put the team at risk by selecting Bryan. Miz says he didn’t cash in his Money in the Bank at SummerSlam because he was preparing for the Team WWE match. Miz thinks Cena wanted to embarrass him.

Sheamus is enjoying his spot on stage, when Wade Barrett leads Nexus on stage, only to be interrupted by the General Manager. The GM requested Nexus come out so he can inform them the title ban has been lifted. Barrett tells Sheamus to consider their truce over.

Match #4 – The Miz vs. John Cena

The Miz takes the fight to Cena, punching him into the corner, and then whipping him across the ring. Cena hits a sidewalk slam, but misses a spear in the corner, catching the turnbuckle. The Miz follows with a suplex. The Miz kicks Cena in the ribs, and then drives a knee into his back. Miz drops a leg, but only gets a two count. Cena quickly recovers with a kick to the gut, and then hits the throwback. Cena goes up top, but Miz knocks him off the top turnbuckle to the floor.

After the break, Miz has Cena in a sleeper hold. Cena fights back, and slams Miz into the turnbuckle to break the hold. Miz blocks a bulldog and then kicks Cena in the face. Miz covers, but Cena kicks out at two. Miz delivers a knee lift, and then catapults Cena into the bottom rope. Miz stalks Cena, and connects with a clothesline in the corner. Cena sidesteps a charge in the corner, and Miz crashes into the ropes. Cena hits a side walk slam, and follows with the five knuckle shuffle. Miz counters the Attitude Adjustment with a back breaker into a neck breaker combo. Miz covers, but Cena kicks out, again. Cena counters the Skull Crushing Finale into the STF. The Miz climbs to the edge of the ring, and is able to grab the bottom rope. Cena runs into a boot, but is again able to counter the Skull Crushing Finale. The Miz hits the floor, where Daniel Bryan attacks him, and tosses him back into the ring. The ref calls for the bell, but Cena hits the Attitude Adjustment anyway.

Winner via DQ: The Miz

Bryan jumps into the ring and locks in a cross face. WWE officials finally break the hold.

Match #5 – Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov vs. The Usos w/ Tamina

Santino tries for the Cobra, but Jimmy kicks him and hammers him to the mat. Jey tags in, hitting a clothesline. He follows with a knee drop. Jimmy gets another tag, but Santino hits a hip toss. Jimmy applies a front face lock, and Santino cannot get the tag. Jimmy hit Kozlov with a cheap shot, but Santino breaks the hold with a back body drop. Kozlov gets the hot tag, blocking a kick from Jey and dropping him with a spinebuster. Kozlov covers for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov

After the match, Tamina stops Jimmy from attacking Santino, and she blows him a kiss as they walk away.

Match #6 – Ted DiBiase w/ Maryse vs. Randy Orton vs. John Morrison

Maryse distracts Morrison and DiBiase knocks him out of the ring. Orton whips Ted into the ropes, where Morrison pulls him from the ring, and connects with a splash kick outside the ring. Morrison and Orton lock up. DiBiase returns to the ring, and sends Morrison to the outside. DiBiase stomps away at Orton in the corner, and we are told Sheamus has left the stage. DiBiase hits Orton with a clothesline, and then hits Morrison with a neck breaker. Morrison counters DiBiase with a jaw breaker, and Orton hits him with a clothesline. Orton follows with a scoop slam, and sets Ted up for the elevated DDT. Morrison goes for a springboard kick, but Orton ducks it and hits the DDT on DiBiase. Orton waits for DiBiase to get up and looks for the RKO; Ted blocks it, shoving Orton right into a spinning kick from Morrison. Dibiase low bridges Morrison, but Orton counters Dream Street. Morrison tries a high risk move from the top, but Orton catches him with an RKO in mid air. Orton covers for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Randy Orton

After the bell, Orton nails DiBiase with a RKO.

Sheamus tells Josh Matthews he has made his decision and he will announce it in the ring.

After the break, Sheamus is in the ring. He says he is still a warrior, and he will defend his title right now. He calls for a ref, and tells the crowd he became the WWE champion because of opportunity. He is going to name a superstar that has never had a title match. Sheamus names Zack Ryder as the new number one contender. Ryder walks out, and tells Sheamus he just made the biggest mistake of his life, because he will be the new WWE champion.

Match #7 – Sheamus vs. Zack Ryder – WWE Championship Match

Sheamus hits the bicycle kick as soon as the bell rings. He covers and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Sheamus

Sheamus gloats about his successful title match, and now he doesn’t have to defend the title for another 30 days, so at Night of Champions he is going to take the night off. In fact, he may take the whole month off. Wade Barrett interrupts Sheamus and walks to the ring. Barrett says since he was the winner of NXT, he does get a title shot. He is going to take it at Night of Champions. The GM fires off an email, he decides to uphold Barrett’s request, and will also grant an opportunity to four other superstars in a six-pack challenge. Sheamus must also defend his title against Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Edge, and John Cena.

All six men stand in the ring and the WWE guys surround Wade Barrett. Cena leads the attack and all five men give the boots to him. Sheamus tosses Barrett to the floor, and walks right into a Codebreaker. Edge spears Jericho, and then gets an Attitude Adjustment from Cena. Orton hits Cena with an RKO and stands alone in the ring to end the show.
