WWE NXT: Eliminations coming fast and furious
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: With Season 2 of NXT coming to an end in only three weeks, it's time for another elimination. And on top of that, the rookies find out two more will be eliminated next week. This week, we get a return six-man tag match from Raw on Monday and a "Power of the Punch" challenge, with the winner appearing on Raw next week. Should be a good one!
And we are LIVE! from San Jose, Calif. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
The pros and rookies come out. Striker says the NXT Season 2 Finale will be in three weeks.
Today's challenge is the "Power of the Punch" challenge, using one of those boxing games you see in arcades. Winner gets their own appearance on Raw next week.
Michael McGuillicutty gets an 863. Kaval is disqualified for kicking it. Percy Watson gets a 716. Lucky Cannon is 744. Husky Harris whiffs and doesn't get all of it. Alex Riley comes in and drills it, nearing the 900 mark. He easily takes it.
For the record, Michael Cole got a 728 when they showed he and Mathews doing it before the show.
During the break, continuing what he did on Raw, The Miz asks John Morrison to tell him he wants him on Team WWE at SummerSlam. Instead, Morrison says they should have a match so he can prove they don't need him. Miz agrees.
Match #1 - Kaval (Brooklyn, NY), Lucky Cannon (New Port Richey, Fla.) & Percy Watson (Miami, Fla.) vs. Husky Harris (Brooksville, Fla.), Michael McGuillicutty (Champlin, Minn.) & Alex Riley (Georgetown, Va.)
Watson drills Riley to the outside. He takes his time getting back in the ring. Cannon in now and he's handling Riley as well. He rolls out to regroup. His teammates chastise him on the floor when Cannon comes flying in with a crossbody on Riley, looking like he almost killed himself in the process.
We're back and the heels are beating down Cannon and have him isolated. Cannon fires up on McGuillicutty, dropping him with a clothesline and tagging Kaval, who comes in on fire. He locks in the Dragon Sleeper when Harris comes in and breaks it up. Everybody in and then the ring is quickly cleared back to Kaval and McGuillicutty. Kaval sidesteps the swinging neckbreaker drops McGuillicutty in the corner and goes up and hits the Warrior's Way for the win.
Winners via pinfall: Kaval, Percy Watson & Lucky Cannon
Match #2 - The Miz (Cleveland, Ohio) vs. John Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.)
Morrison with a standing Shooting Star Press but somehow, he manages to only hit him with his arm. Miz misses his corner clothesline and Morrison locks him in a backslide for two. He sends Miz to the outside and hits a spinning crossbody to take out Miz.
The tides have turned as we return from break and Miz has Morrison in a chinlock. Miz lines Morrison up and hits the running corner clothesline. Back to the chinlock but Morrison gets out and here we go. Clothesline and a dropkick for Morrison followed by a flapjack. He rams Miz into the turnbuckle and hits a springboard kick for two.
Two kicks for Morrison put Miz in place for the Starship Pain but Miz moves and Morrison lands on his feet. Miz ducks a kick and then hits the Skull-Crushing Finale.
Winner via pinfall: The Miz
It's time for the NXT Poll. Someone's going home.
Before the poll is revealed, Striker asks each rookie who they think should go home. McGuillicutty says Cannon. So does Kaval. Watson says Riley. Cannon says anybody but himself. Harris says Cannon. Riley says McGuillicutty.
Here's the poll:
2. Michael McGuillicutty
3. Percy Watson
4. Husky Harris
5. Alex Riley
6. Lucky Cannon
Cannon gets the "Goodbye Song" sung to him then steals lines from Jerry McGuire. Then he runs down a couple of the rookies prompting Cole to ask somebody to punch him in the face.
Striker interviews Riley and he says that he will be winning this contest.
Striker says for them to not get too comfortable because two rookies will be eliminated next week. Yikes.
