RAW: Team WWE makes a stand
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

SummerSlam is only days away and Team Cena is in disarray. Bret Hart returns to team with John Cena to take on former team members Edge and Chris Jericho in Sacramento, California. The wrinkle in all this nonsense, Nexus will be lumberjacks during the match. (And there may or may not be a guest host, tonight.)

Bret Hart kicks off the show by heading to the ring. Hart says he has been training his butt off for SummerSlam and is disappointed that Edge and Jericho have quit Team WWE. Hart vouched for those guys, but he was wrong. Hart wants the quitters to come to the ring and face him. Hart tells Jericho to shut up and listen. Bret pretty much tells Jericho to put up, or shut up. He wants Jericho to rejoin the team. Jericho declines, calling Hart a hypocrite. Jericho says Hart is more worried about the beating he is going to get tonight. Jericho then says he is irreplaceable, and he wants to do is take out Bret Hart.

Edge finally makes his entrance. He wants to know what is wrong with Jericho. He calls Hart an icon, and decides to rejoin Team WWE. Edge extends his hand, but it’s a trap. Hart blocks the cheap shot, and looks for the Sharp Shooter. Jericho saves his partner, and the two head to the back.

Natalya runs to the ring, as Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith are assaulted in the back by Nexus. Wade Barrett tells Bret he is going to have a rough day, since the Hart Dynasty won’t be able to take his place. Bret and Natalya race to the back.

Match #1 – The Miz vs. Evan Bourne

Bourne lands two early shots, but Miz responds with a kick, and knocks Bourne to the mat. Miz kicks Bourne in the ribs, sending him across the mat. Bourne pulls himself up in the corner, only to receive a flying clothesline. Miz applies a chin lock. Bourne is able to fight out, and then knees his way out of a suplex. Bourne goes to work with a series of kicks, and then springboards off the ropes into a hurricanrana pin. Miz kicks out and hits a clothesline. Miz waits for Bourne to get to his feet, and then finishes him off with the Skull Crushing Finale.

Winner via pinfall: The Miz

After the bell, Miz has something to say. He doesn’t care who wins on Sunday, because when he is ready to cash in his contract he will be the new WWE champion.

John Cena is in the back pleading with the Great Khali.

Match #2 – Melina vs. Alicia Fox – Non-Title Match

Michael Cole reminds us that Melina never lost the title; she had to vacate it due to injury. Melina forces Alicia to the outside, but runs into a clothesline trying to follow her. Melina hits the sunset bomb and pins Alicia to get the win.

Winner via pinfall: Melina

Josh Matthews tries to find out where Great Khali’s allegiances lie without an interpreter. Khali says WWE, but we can’t understand anything else. Khali strings together enough English to challenge Wade Barrett to a one on one match, tonight.

Edge and Jericho are in the back discussing what happened earlier. Jericho thinks Hart maybe was right and they should rejoin Team WWE. Edge mentions every major faction in the WWE from over the past ten years and says they have survived them all. Jericho then hatches a plan to sabotage Team Cena.

Elsewhere backstage, Morrison and R-Truth talk about replacements. Mark Henry says he can take both spots, and his match can be considered his audition. Nexus watches from the back, and Barrett sends his troops out to the ring to intercept Henry.

Match #3 – Mark Henry vs. Ted DiBiase w/ Maryse

Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel are waiting for Henry on the ring steps. This allows the rest of Nexus to strike from behind. Henry is smashed into the ring steps and is out cold. WWE officials call for help from the back.

WWE Champion Sheamus walks through the back.

Sheamus makes his way to the ring, planning to call out his SummerSlam opponent, Randy Orton. The WWE champ says he was scared to get in the ring with Orton last week, scared of what he would have done to him. Sheamus has been hurting people ever since he stepped into the WWE. Sheamus rolls the footage to back up his claim.

Orton comes out to say his piece, telling Sheamus he is full of it. Orton tells Sheamus he had the opportunity and blew it, just like he will blow it as SummerSlam. Orton reminds Sheamus that he has never beaten him. Sheamus tells Orton he is wrong, and if Orton loses he will never get another title shot. Sheamus and Orton face off, when they are interrupted by an email from the GM. The GM notes that Sheamus’ title matches have been marred by interference, so if anyone gets involved they will be suspended. The GM does agree with Sheamus though, if Orton loses there will be no rematch. He (or she) also agrees with Orton, if Sheamus wants to do something he should do it now. Sheamus fakes a punch, so Orton attacks him from behind. Sheamus fights back, and looks for the pump kick. Orton dodges and hits the back breaker, with Sheamus down Orton sets up the punt, but he pulls up at the last second. Sheamus cowers in the corner, as Orton walks back up the ramp.

Match #4 – Percy Watson, Lucky Cannon, and Kaval vs. Mike McGillicutty, Alex Riley, and Husky Harris

Sheamus is still pacing at ringside as this NXT match gets under way. (I think that’s a bad sign for the Rookies.) Husky Harris pins Kaval to pick up the win.

Winner via pinfall: Mike McGillicutty, Alex Riley, and Husky Harris

The bell is still ringing when Sheamus takes out McGillicutty on the outside and storms into the ring. The rest of the Rooks split, expect for Kaval, who is still down on the mat. Sheamus hits Kaval with the Celtic Cross. He then tells everyone he will still be the WWE Champion next week.

Match #5 – R-Truth and John Morrison vs. William Regal and Zack Ryder

Ryder works over Truth to start the match, making the cover after a drop kick to the back of the head. Truth kicks out, and then avoids a kick in the corner, as Ryder is hung up on the ropes. Morrison tags in, takes out Regal, and hits Starship Pain on Ryder. Morrison covers for the three count.

Winner via pinfall: R-Truth and John Morrison

The Bella Twins are in the back getting ready for their summer spectacular match.

Match #6 – Maryse and Jillian vs. The Bella Twins vs. Gail Kim and Eve – Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov Special Referees – Summertime Spectacular Match

(The teaser card for this match showed the Divas in bikinis, but they are all in one piece suits. This WWE PG has now gone too far! I’m boycotting this match.)

Nikki Bella wins after pinning Jillian with a cross body off the top turnbuckle.

Winner via pinfall: The Bella Twins

After the match, Tamina comes to the ring, getting in Santino’s face. She lets him go, but not before smacking him on the rear.

The Great Khali is jumped by Nexus in the back. Khali is down and may be hurt.

Nexus heads to the ring and Wade Barrett announces his match with The Great Khali has been canceled. He says the balance of power on RAW is about to shift, because they will beat Team WWE. Skip Sheffield says RAW is their show now, and they will take out Bret Hart tonight. Otunga warns anyone thinking of joining Team WWE to take a good look at what they did tonight.

Hart and Cena run into the Miz backstage, who knows they need help. Miz wants to hear them ask it. Hart asks him, but he wants to hear it from Cena, so Cena asks. Miz can’t believe how times have changed, but he won’t have an answer until Sunday.

Match #7 – John Cena and Bret Hart vs. Chris Jericho and Edge – Lumberjack Match

Nexus are the lumberjacks for this match, so this should get interesting.

Cena and Edge start off the match, with Nexus all on one side of the ring. Hart takes a shot at Edge from the apron, as Cena applies a head lock. Edge tosses Cena to Nexus, and they put the boots to him. Jericho gets the tag, and tosses Cena back to the wolves. Cena is rolled back in the ring, and Jericho just tosses him out, again. Jericho goes to the well one too many times, and Cena reverses the throw, and Jericho hits the floor. Nexus doesn’t touch him. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Jericho counters into the Wall. Cena blocks it and looks for a cross body. Jericho dodge it, and Cena hits the floor near the announce table. He catches Barrett with a clothesline coming around the corner, and scrambles back into the ring. Barrett jumps on the apron, as Jericho looks for a clothesline. Cena dodges it, and Jericho decks Barrett. Cena knocks Jericho to the floor, and this time Nexus isn’t as forgiving.

Edge tries to save his partner, but to no avail. Hart pulls Justin Gabriel into the ring, but Barrett is able to make the save. Hart and Cena are alone in the ring, as Nexus plots their strategy. They jump to the apron, as R-Truth and Morrison join their teammates. Edge and Jericho watch from the ramp. They have seen enough and rejoin Team WWE. The six WWE superstars chase Nexus from the ring, and out through the crowd. Nexus tries to taunt from the top of the arena steps, but WWE owns the ring tonight.
