Raw: Team WWE continues to crumble, loses 2 members
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on Monday Night Raw: Team WWE continues to break apart as it heads into the big 7-on-7 match with The Nexus at SummerSlam. The team loses two members and possibly one more, as Edge quits the team and John Cena and Chris Jericho have a match where the loser is off. To add to matters, The Nexus courts The Great Khali. Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from San Antonio, Texas. Michael Cole and 2007 WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG, V)
Edge is out to the ring to start the show. He says last week made things perfectly clear that he needs to start listening to only one person -- himself. He says tonight, he wants Wade Barrett one-on-one tonight with no one else getting involved. This brings out R-Truth. He says it's bigger than Wade Barrett. He says Edge won't listen to John Cena, but he will listen to him. Truth says they have to fight together for the WWE Universe. If they don't, Nexus wins. He says Edge needs to stop thinking for himself and pull his head out of his rear-end. Edge tells Truth he better get out of the ring before he spears him out. Then the GM's sound hits.
The GM says if that is what Edge wants, he'll get it. And it's next.
Match #1 - Edge (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Wade Barrett (Manchester, England)
Edge off to a hot start. Barrett takes a hard spear in the corner, but gains control by sending Edge off the apron with a big boot.

Edge-O-Matic hits for two. Edge goes to the top but Barrett pulls him down looking for the forward fireman's carry slam but Edge escapes and drops Barrett. Edge lines him up for the spear but Barrett rolls out of the ring.
Barrett climbs to the steps and then calls out the rest of Nexus. Edge sees this and hightails it through the crowd.
And the segment just ends. No countout. No DQ. They just go to...
Edge is running through backstage looking for John Cena. He finds him and yells at him for not being there for him during his match. Cena rightfully points out that Edge said he didn't want any help. Edge then quits the team. Chris Jericho comes up behind Cena and tells him that if anybody on the team needs to quit, it's Cena. Jericho says if the team has any chance of winning at SummerSlam, it's with Cena gone. Jericho tells Cena to quit, and if he doesn't do it on his own, he's going to make him do it. He says they should have a match tonight where the loser leaves the team.
The Great Khali and John Morrison are chatting. Morrison says they all need to work together. Morrison walks away and he is approached by Michael Tarver and David Otunga. Tarver says they didn't attack him last week because they don't attack people they respect. Otunga says Cena doesn't respect Khali. Tarver says if Khali ever wants to go somewhere he's appreciated and respected, the door's always open.

Jericho throws one of the steel steps. Cena has the mic and asks Jericho for one minute. He says they just had one hell of a match. He says he doesn't want Jericho to leave the team. He says Jericho can go toe-to-toe with anybody in the ring. He says he isn't going to beg him and that the choice is Jericho's. Jericho walks back toward the ring a few steps before walking to the top of the ramp. He stops for a second then continues to the back.
Edge is backstage and Jericho walks in. Edge says he doesn't blame Jericho and that neither of them need that. Edge says he respects Jericho for that. Jericho says he respects that Edge quit the team. Edge suggests that he and Jericho let bygones be bygones. Jericho extends his hand for a handshake and Edge accepts. They embrace and the GM's ding goes off.
