WWE NXT: Second rookie goes home; New No. 1
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: The pressure is on. It's time for the second elimination and tensions are running high. When the unfortunate rookie is told he's eliminated, he attacks his fellow competitors, setting off a chaotic scene at the end of the show. Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from Corpus Christi, Texas. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
They bring the rookies out here on elimination night. Each rookie is given a minute to talk. Lucky Cannon gets booed when he talks about his lack of friends growing up. Eli Cottonwood (with a "MUSTACHE" shirt), talks about "I's". He is booed. Husky Harris picks his topic, which is husky. He says everyone up there looks like Tarzan but fights like Jane. Kaval's topic is dreams. Cole buries him. Michael McGuillicutty takes offense with Miz calling him mediocre. Alex Riley says unlike some people, he refuses to change himself to appease the WWE Universe. Percy Watson's topic is "having a good time." He tells everyone to get Percyfied.
This was bad.
Match #1 - "Showtime" Percy Watson (Miami, Fla.) vs. Zack Ryder (Long Island, NY)
Ryder with a big kick in the corner for two. Neckbreaker for Ryder and a kneedrop to the gut. Ryder goes for the kick in the corner again and misses. Watson with some dropkicks and a clothesline. Ryder to the apron and he wrings Watson's neck on the ropes. In the ring, Ryder goes for the Roughrider Leg Lariat, but Watson ducks it, puts him down and hits a big jumping splash and that's it.
Winner via pinfall: "Showtime" Percy Watson
John Morrison and Eli Cottonwood are in the back watching Cottonwood's performance in the obstacle course challenge back. It was not good. Cottonwood says he has one word for his opponent tonight, McGuillicutty. Morrison says, "Intensity?" And Cottonwood replies, "No, mustache." I almost lost it.
Match #2 - Michael McGuillicutty (Champlin, Minn.) vs. Eli Cottonwood (River Falls, Wisc.)
Cottonwood dominating in the early going. Huge short-arm clothesline by Cottonwood and he works a chinlock. Inverted atomic drop for Cottonwood. Cottonwood goes for a big boot, but McGuillicutty ducks it and Cottonwood crotches himself. Big kick for McGuillicutty and he then hits the swinging neckbreaker for the win.
Winner via pinfall: Michael McGuillicutty
Match #3 - Kaval (Brooklyn, NY) vs. Husky Harris (Brooksville, Fla.)
Another huge short-arm clothesline tonight, this one for Husky Harris, who pastes Kaval. Kaval gets going and whips Harris into the corner, but Harris steps out and just lets Kaval run into him and flattens him. Michelle McCool and Layla end up going flying off the apron. Harris takes advantage of the distraction and hits a reverse suplex and then the big sexton for the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Husky Harris
It's time for the NXT Poll. The 7th place competitor is going home.
1. Michael McGuillicutty
Well, Striker gives Cottonwood the chance to speak. Instead, he attacks Harris. A small brawl breaks out. I'd be upset too if Lucky Cannon stayed ahead of me.
Striker interviews some more pros. Riley talks some trash with McGuillicutty, saying he's coming for him. They get into a brawl. Then Cottonwood comes flying back down from the back and beats up Cannon for good measure as the show goes off the air.
