WWE NXT: Nexus leaves path of destruction
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: Paranoia is in the air as The Nexus comes back to its old stomping grounds — NXT. Also, Percy Watson gets his own talk show after winning the "Talk the Talk Challenge" last week. Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from Louisville, Ky. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker and Ashley Valance are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Striker and Valance are in the ring and they welcome the WWE pros. Then they welcome out The Nexus to the stage. Wade Barrett says he hopes the pros aren't going to instigate any trouble tonight because they just want to sit back and watch the show.
Match #1 - The Miz (Cleveland, Ohio) & Alex Riley (Georgetown, Va.) vs. Mark Henry (Silsbee, Texas) & Lucky Cannon (New Port Richey, Fla.)
Riley wants in against Henry and he gets thrown out of the ring. He gets back in and gets clubbed. Henry wants The Miz but instead brings in Cannon. Cannon runs wild and dumps Riley over the clothesline. They he goes for a slingshot crossbody, but Riley moves and Cannon slams face-first into the steps.
Miz and Riley in control on Cannon as we return. Cannon fires up with a scoop slam on Riley. Riley gets the tag to Miz who briefly keeps Cannon away, but he tags Henry in. Henry with a gorilla press slam. He lunges Miz across the ring and he tags Riley, who is not happy. Henry just grabs Riley and lifts him over the top rope and gives him the World's Strongest Slam for the pin.
Winners via pinfall: Mark Henry & Lucky Cannon
After the match, Mark Henry grabs a ringside trash can and dumps it all over Riley.
It's now time for "It's Showtime" with Percy Watson. He welcomes his guest MVP, his pro. He says MVP always tells him to seize the moment and he's going to do that now. Then all the other rookies come to the ring. MVP then calls all the other pros to the ring. They square off when Striker interrupts things from the back. He says they are going to clear the ring and have an over-the-top battle royal. Then Wade Barrett chimes in and says The Nexus is going to be participating in the battle royal, as well, and he's going to be the winner.
20-man Over The Top Battle Royal
All six Nexus members just slide out of the ring, allowing everybody else to battle it out. The rookies team up to eliminate Mark Henry quickly, then the Nexus attacks him on the outside. Same thing for Eli Cottonwood, but he eats the big lariat from Skip Sheffield. MVP goes out and they go to attack, but John Morrison and Kofi Kingston slide out to help.
We're back and Percy Watson and Michael McGuillicutty go. Alex Riley is bleeding and he is told to go to the doctor. Husky Harris and Kaval are eliminated. So now it's the remaining Season 2 pros against Nexus. Ryder goes to trash talk Nexus and Miz eliminates him. He then goes to form a truce with them. They surround him 3/4 of the way and just eliminates himself. It's Kingston, Morrison and Cody Rhodes against all of Nexus. Rhodes lays back as the other two pros are eaten alive. Morrison and Kingston start a brief comeback. Sheffield tries to dump Morrison but he skins the cat, but he is finally eliminated. Now it's 6-on-1 on Kingston as Rhodes lays back. They dump him.
Now they turn their attention to Rhodes. Now it's Rhodes trying to form a truce with them. He tries to shake hands with Gabriel and Otunga to no avail. He keeps going down the line. He gets to Barrett and then accepts his fate. They beat him down and eliminate him.
Winners: The Nexus
Nexus goes outside and brings Rhodes and Kingston back into the ring. Morrison gets beat down outside. Kingston gets Barrett's forward fireman's carry and Rhodes takes both the tree slam from Otunga and the 450 Splash from Gabriel.
Striker gets in the ring. Barrett takes the mic from him. He says standing in the ring isn't the smartest thing Striker ever did. He advises him to back off before things get ugly. Striker gets another mic and asks Barrett if they are proud about what they did to John Cena on Raw. Barrett says he's proud of everything he's done in the ring. He says one thing's certain, you're either Nexus, or you're against us.
