Legendary Dragon suffered aneurysm?

The interview had been a couple of weeks in the making.

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat was going to be on the other end of the phone talking about the new DVD, Ricky Steamboat: The Life Story of the Dragon.

After one postponed interview, Emily Alonzo, publicist for E1 Entertainment, distributor of the WWE videos in Canada, sent along the news that the 57-year-old Dragon would only be able to do the interview via e-mail. I would have to submit questions.

No go, I said. That would take away any spontaneity.

I’ve interviewed Ric Flair, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Vince McMahon ... all of the wrestling giants. None by e-mail.

Steamboat had plenty to be proud of, plenty he could talk about. The three-disc DVD is packed with Steamboat’s biggest bouts, some considered among the best of all-time. Included are matches against Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Austin and "Ravishing" Rick Rude. Steamboat’s Intercontinental championship match against Randy "Macho Man" Savage is a Wrestlemania classic. So were the wars with Flair.

Steamboat was on RAW promoting the DVD, along with other Legends on Monday, when they were “attacked” by NXT renegades. Steamboat was nailed with a lariat from Skip Sheffield and a 450 splash from Justin Gabriel.

Word came out that Steamboat had suffered a brain aneurysm Wednesday in Tampa — a claim WWE denies. Steamboat's condition was upgraded to stable Thursday in hospital.

Get well soon, Dragon. You are a legend. One of the best!

Around the ring

CM Punk had surgery on his arm and will be out of action for up to two months ... Wade Barrett and Drew McIntyre are both having work visa issues and could be off WWE TV for a while.
