WWE NXT: Surprise! First elimination on tap
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: The eight rookies are in for a big surprise tonight. Just expecting the first poll to be revealed, WWE has once again changed their minds and have decided to eliminate one wrestler from the show. In the NXT Poll, Kaval comes in at No. 1, while it's down to Husky Harris and Titus O'Neil to see who's going home. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Ashley Valence and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Ashley is on the stage, telling us the voting has opened at WWE.com. She says they have a surprise for the rookies. Not only are they going to reveal the poll, the person ranked last is going to be eliminated. Then Cole and Mathews just bury Ashley for her performance (and granted, it was bad).

She kicks it to Striker and we're going to have the famed keg-carry contest and the winner will get immunity. Michael McGuillicutty is up. He drops the keg immediately past the line. Lucky Cannon comes in at 12.7 seconds. Percy Watson at 13.3 and Eli Cottonwood at 13.3. Kaval refuses to participated because the keg weighs 15 pounds less than he does. Titus O'Neil immediately drops the keg and goes flying. Husky Harris makes it about halfway through before dropping it and nearly injuring himself and Alex Riley wraps it up at 13.8.

That means Lucky Cannon is immune from elimination. He probably gains one more week.

Match #1 - Husky Harris (Brooksville, Fla., 0-1) vs. MVP (Miami, Fla.)

MVP has a hard time early with the larger Harris. Harris even laughs right in his face. Harris comes out of a break with a cheap shot and that does not make MVP happy and he gets rolling, hitting a big kick in the corner that sends Harris slumping to the outside.

MVP is still going but Harris moves and hits a modified-Uranage for two. Harris going for constant covers. Harris then kips up and is still going for constant covers. Bodyslam for Harris. Another. Harris pounding away and dominating MVP. He goes for the big running senton but MVP rolls out of the way. MVP with some strikes and now he has Harris reeling. He hits the Ballin' Elbow. Harris then runs right into The 305 for the win.

Winner via pinfall: MVP

Match #2 - Michael McGuillicutty (Champlin, Minn., 2-0), Kaval (Brooklyn, NY, 0-2) & Lucky Cannon (New Port Richey, Fla., 0-2) vs. Eli Cottonwood (River Falls, Wisc., 2-0), Alex Riley (Georgetown, Va., 2-0) & Titus O'Neil (Live Oak, Fla., 0-2)

Lucky Cannon bares the brunt of the prolonged heel beatdown here. Riley gets Cannon's leg, but he kicks out and brings in Kaval. He goes into a cartwheel jumping kick, the Tidal Crush, on Riley. O'Neil comes in and just throws Kaval through the ropes to the outside. It breaks down from there. McGuillicutty comes in and hits the swinging neckbreaker on Riley. Everyone else gets taken out in typical tag match fashion. Kaval crawls back onto the apron and to the top rope and hits the Warrior's Way and picks up the pin.

Winners via pinfall: Kaval, Michael McGuillicutty & Lucky Cannon

It's now time for the NXT Poll to be revealed. Lucky Cannon has immunity.

1. Kaval
2. Percy Watson
3. Michael McGuillicutty
4. Alex Riley
5. Lucky Cannon
6. Eli Cottonwood

That leaves Titus O'Neil and Husky Harris.

7. Husky Harris
8. Titus O'Neil

O'Neil cuts a classy, inspirational promo on his way out. He's the first person to be eliminated that I've felt bad for.
