Impact: Sting steals, defaces TNA title
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on TNA Impact: TNA will celebrate its eighth anniversary Sunday with Slammiversary. Tonight, things get ramped out with a big eight-man tag team match. The two combatants in the TNA World Title match, Rob Van Dam and Sting, engage in unofficial combat, with Sting stealing and defacing the title. Should be a good one!

As always, tonight's taped show emanates from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Fla. "The Professor" Mike Tenay and The Tazz are our hosts.

Quite the group is out to lead off tonight's show, as AJ Styles leads Desmond Wolfe, Kazarian and Beer Money.

Styles says that since Ric Flair is not here, he is going to take control of the situation. He says he found out as he walked into the building that they were booked in an eight-man tag by Eric Bischoff tonight. Except there's five of them. He says five doesn't work, noting many successful combinations that have four people. He says he has a solution to the problem, immediately kicking Kazarian out. Kazarian calls Styles a "turd" and says he isn't in control when Ric Flair's music hits, only it's Jay Lethal.

Lethal cuts a Flair promo, hitting all the usual Flair notes, including dropping an elbow on his jacket on the stage and making fun of AJ's suit. Then Lethal introduces his team for the night, starting with Abyss and following up with Mr. Anderson. Styles says there's only three of them, then Lethal says the big man counts as two and says they are doing it right now and they hit the ring.

Being down 5-on-3 doesn't make for a good combination and Jeff Hardy hits the ring from the crowd and the heels clear out. That's your main event.

Match #1 - Brian Kendrick (Venice, Calif.) vs. Homicide (Brooklyn, NY)

Homicide takes control early and Kendrick takes a bump for Homicide's bandana. He goes for the Gringo Killer but Kendrick slips out. Despite that, Homicide remains in control. T-Bone suplex connects for Homicide. He drills Kendrick with a running kick. All Homicide here. Kendrick tries an Irish whip but Homicide just pulls him face-first into the top buckle. Now Homicide takes off his wrist tape but the referee takes it away. So he just undoes his other wrist and chokes Kendrick with it right in front of the referee, but no DQ.

Now Kendrick starts firing up. He sends Homicide to the ramp and mounts him and rams his head into the stage. He has to be pulled off by the ref. Then Homicide goes under the ring and goes into a toolbox and grabs a screwdriver which the referee takes away. As he does. Kendrick plasters him with a kick to the face to win it.

Winner via pinfall: Brian Kendrick

Jesse Neal is in the ring and calls out Team 3D and they waste no time with Brother Ray leading the way. They are stopped at the end of the stage by agents and security but talks his way into the ring and gets a mic. Neal says if Ray has a problem with him to have the balls to settle it like a man. They talk back and forth until Ray calls Neal a failure in the Navy and that sets him off. He's held back and Ray adds in that after Slammiversary, he'll be a failure in the wrestling business as well.

Now Shannon Moore is getting into it with Ray and calls Devon a puppet. Devon says he's giving Moore a pass for that one and tells Ray to get his head on straight and leave Neal alone before he walks off. With everyone's back turned, Ray drills Neal from behind and runs right off.

Matt Morgan and Eric Bischoff are backstage talking. Morgan wants to know who his partner is. Bischoff says he's going to love it and says Hulk Hogan is waiting for him at the ring entrance and his rematch is next.

Match #2 - TNA World Tag Team Championship - Matt Morgan (Fairfield, Conn.) & Hernandez (Houston, Texas) vs. The Band

Hernandez just comes flying in and drills Morgan and starts going to town. He is manhandling Morgan and then chokes him with his shirt. Morgan is out.

On commentary, Hulk Hogan books Hernandez against Morgan at Slammiversary as Morgan gets stretchered out.

As they pick Morgan up to take him out, The Band makes their way to ring. The people taking Morgan out leave him in the middle of the ring still strapped to the stretcher. Eric Young comes in and pins him.

Winners via pinfall and STILL TNA World Tag Team Champions: The Band

RVD is talking to Christy backstage when Sting comes in and attacks him. He chokes him and then pounds away and leaves the TNA World Heavyweight Champion in a heap. To add insult to injury, he walks away with the belt.

Match #3 - Kurt Angle (Pittsburgh, Pa.) vs. Amazing Red (Brooklyn, NY)

Red gets off early and Angle looks up annoyed that this little man has the gull to do such a thing. Red reverses the Angle Slam but eventually eats a German. Red, though, perseveres and uses his quickness to befuddle Angle. But Red goes to the top and tries his splash but Angle moves and quickly scoops Red up for the Angle Slam.

Winner via pinfall: Kurt Angle

Sting is backstage with the belt and has written "deception" on the belt because that's the big thing in TNA right now. He says change is coming. It's Showtime.

Match #4 - AJ Styles (Gainesville, Ga.), Desmond Wolfe (London, England), Robert Roode (Toronto, Ontario) & James Storm (Leiper's Fork, Tenn.) vs. Jay Lethal (Elizabeth, NJ), Mr. Anderson (Green Bay, Wisc.), Abyss (Parts Unknown) & Jeff Hardy (Cameron, NC)

Things get going when Chelsea is slow in giving a chair to Wolfe to use on Abyss. Wolfe charges Abyss, who punches the chair into his face. Styles comes flying in with a springboard forearm that knocks Abyss out of the ring. Styles then goes after Lethal but he fends off the former champ. Lethal springboards but is powerbombed by Styles, who immediately hits the Styles Clash to win the match.

Winners via pinfall: AJ Styles, Desmond Wolfe, Robert Roode & James Storm

Sting is backstage with the TNA Deception Title and he says he'll be waiting for RVD right where he is.

RVD finds Sting but just gets beatdown again for his troubles. Sting hits him with some drywall and various other items. Then RVD fires up with a lamp and takes control, throwing Sting into a clothing rack. They battle through the backstage area and Sting eventually takes control as they enter the arena. They battle into the ring with RVD in control. He takes Sting's jacket off and chokes him with it. RVD rips the belt off Sting and throws it aside, looking to keep bringing the pain. Instead, Sting throws RVD's head into a chair that RVD set up and hits him with the chair. He grabs the belt back and lays it on RVD.
