WWE NXT: New rookies pay as Season 2 opens
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: It's time to get "Wild and Young" once again. While the Season 1 rookies did that last night on Raw, it's time for the new crop of rookies to step in and try to make an impression on the Season 2 debut of NXT. Unfortunately for them, by the time the show's done, they have to pay for the sins of their predecessors. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Tampa, Fla. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Striker is in the ring, still selling his side, and he's here to introduce us to the second season of NXT. He brings out the pros, who introduce their rookies. All 16 are in the ring. Michelle McCool and Layla make Kaval carry their belts to the ring. Cody Rhodes is not particularly enthused by Husky Harris, although the commentators say there's a story behind that, so we'll find that out eventually.

Striker says Season 2 will only be 12 weeks long and in three weeks, the Pros will cast their first votes and in six weeks, we'll have our first elimination. Striker says pros and rookies will be in action next and then Harris starts to say something into the mic and then Titus O'Neill shoves him and all the rookies start shoving, including the inevitable shot of Kaval and Eli Cottonwood standing off.

Match #1 - John Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) & Eli Cottonwood (River Falls, Wisc.) vs. Zack Ryder (Long Island, NY) & Titus O'Neill (Live Oak, Fla.)

Morrison tags in Cottonwood and Ryder wants nothing to do with him, tagging O'Neill in. O'Neill barks in Cottonwood's face and takes a big boot for his troubles. Cottonwood sets O'Neill down in the corner and tags Morrison in, who slings in and kicks O'Neill. O'Neill rolls out of the ring and hits the steel steps as Ryder gets in his face.

We're back and Ryder is briefly in control before Morrison takes over. Ryder tags O'Neill and it doesn't go well. Ryder breaks up a pin and gets sent out of the ring by Cottonwood with a big boot. Morrison then lines up O'Neill and hits Starship Pain.

Winners via pinfall: John Morrison & Eli Cottonwood

Striker comes into the ring and Morrison says Cottonwood held his own. He goes up to The Miz who says he was not impressed.

Match #2 - MVP (Miami, Fla.) & Percy Watson (Miami, Fla.) vs. Cody Rhodes (Marietta, Ga.) & Husky Harris (Brooksville, Fla.)

This is great, Watson wrestles with his glasses on.

The referee actually calls an illegal tag on Rhodes and Harris because Rhodes was in the middle of the apron when he was tagged, so he makes Rhodes do it all again. It's a shoot! Despite the mishap, Rhodes is still able to cut Watson off before he can tag MVP.

We're back and the dissension between Rhodes and Harris is evident as Rhodes doesn't want to tag him. He eventually does, though, and Harris hits a huge reverse splash that makes the crowd buzz. Somehow, Watson tags MVP and he goes to work on Harris, hitting the Ballin' Elbow. Rhodes goes to the top rope to try to save Harris but MVP hits him with a big boot. He tags in Watson, who hits a floatover DDT for the fall.

Winners via pinfall: MVP & Percy Watson

Striker is in the ring with everybody. He asks Rhodes for his impressions on Harris. He says Harris looks awfully familiar, in fact, he looks like somebody in his family and like all the fans. MVP says "Showtime" Percy Watson is ready for primetime.

All the pros and rookies are in the ring and they show the big angle from last night in its entirety.

Striker asks the rookies what they thought. Kaval says that's how you make an impression. Lucky Cannon says it was cowardly, but if you want to make a statement, that's how you do it. Husky Harris says he's doesn't care because he's here to win the show. Alex Riley sneezes twice and says he's allergic to Striker. Percy Watson says you fight one-on-one. Eli Cottonwood says he thinks Cena deserved every bit of it. Titus O'Neill challenges Season 1 to come out and try that on one of them and if you're going to fight, make it a fight. Michael McGillicutty is quickly cut off.

Now Striker says, on behalf of everybody, the rookies are welcomed to WWE, then the pros attack the rookies, starting with Michelle McCool and Layla slapping Kaval before bailing. The pros dispatch of the rookies, ending with Mark Henry hitting the World's Strongest Slam on O'Neill.
