WWE NXT: Rookies team up in both matches
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on WWE NXT: When WWE tapes three shows in one night, NXT catches the brunt of it. Tonight's show features only two matches, both pairing rookies and another duo of rookies, sandwiched between about 40 minutes of WrestleMania hype. Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from San Jose, Calif. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Match #1 - Heath Slater (Pineville, WV) & Justin Gabriel (Cape Town, South Africa) vs. Skip Sheffield (College Station, Texas) & Wade Barrett (Manchester, England)
Sheffield lands the first significant move of the match with a delayed vertical front-face suplex on Gabriel. Gabriel gets the tag to Slater who comes in on fire against Sheffield. Slater goes for a roll-up after a reversal but gives in up because Barrett is charging in. Barrett goes for a big boot on Slater, but he ducks and he drills Sheffield right in the kisser. Gabriel comes in on Barrett with a forearm and Slater pins Sheffield.
Winners via pinfall: Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel
A bunch of promos for WrestleMania aired. Literally about 30-40 minutes straight.
Match #2 - Darren Young (Miami, Fla.) & David Otunga (Hollywood, Calif.) vs. Michael Tarver (Akron, Ohio) & Daniel Bryan (Aberdeen, Wash.)
Bryan locks in a guillotine on Young and transitions into ... something. A submission hold of some kind, but Young gets to the ropes. Crossbody lands for Bryan as Tarver and Luke Gallows argue outside. Bryan looking for the tag but Tarver isn't there. Tarver gets back on the apron as Young tags Otunga. Bryan sidesteps the charging Otunga and sends him crashing into Tarver. Bryan misses a leap from the middle rope and Otunga takes advantage and sends Bryan to 0-5 with his finish.
Winners via pinfall: David Otunga & Darren Young
