WWE NXT: Rookies get over on vets
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: Last week, Justin Gabriel became the first rookie to pin a veteran, pinning William Regal in a tag team match. This week, two rookies pick up huge wins over veterans and the tension between The Miz and Daniel Bryan boils over. Should be a good one!

And we are LIVE! from Seattle, Wash. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Match #1 - R-Truth (Charlotte, N.C.) & David Otunga (Hollywood, Calif.) vs. The Miz (Cleveland, Ohio) & Daniel Bryan (Aberdeen, Wash.)

Miz cuts a promo on Bryan before the match saying he hasn't proved anything yet with his 0-2 record. He says is Bryan drops the ball tonight, he'll make sure he's never a WWE superstar and he'll have him thrown off NXT. High stakes, indeed.

Bryan takes a hard double shoulderblock. Bryan gets thrown outside. He is joined shortly thereafter by Miz. Then Otunga slingshots Truth over the top rope and onto Bryan and Miz.

We're back and Bryan has Truth in a Dragon Sleeper. He lets it go and goes to work on a chinlock with a knee in the back. Miz in and he goes to work on Truth. Truth finally gets the tag to Otunga and he lays Miz out with several clotheslines and a big scoop slam that Bryan breaks up. Bryan blind tags his way in and starts lighting Otunga up with kicks. Goes for a sunset flip but switches it to a heel hook and Otunga is close to tapping but Miz blind tags his way in and slaps Bryan. Bryan goes after him, allowing Truth and drill Miz and Otunga hits his finish on Miz.

Winners via pinfall: R-Truth & David Otunga

Miz gets in Bryan's face after the match and tells him to walk away. Then Bryan pulls his arm back like he's going to hit him and Miz flinches. Bryan walks away.

Heath Slater taped promo. He's upset about Carlito spitting apple in his face last week, saying if he were to do it, instead of spitting it, he'd chuck it like a 98-mph fastball right between the eyes.

Miz is stewing backstage. Striker catches up with him and asks him if he let Bryan down because he lost. Bryan comes up and says every tag team partner Miz has had carried him. Miz says he's the one with the talent. Bryan says if he's so talented, why did he lose tonight? Crowd goes, "Ooooooooooh!"

Matt Hardy and Justin Gabriel are backstage when they are interrupted by Chris Jericho and Wade Barrett. Gabriel and Barrett will meet.

Match #2 - Heath Slater (Pineville, WV) vs. Carlito (San Juan, PR)

Carlito goes to spit in Slater's face to start but Slater ducks it and cracks Carlito.

We're back and Carlito has control. It doesn't last for long as Carlito gets caught up jabbering at Christian and takes a ride over the top rope to the floor. Slater goes to work with punches but eats a big boot.

Carlito charges Slater in the corner but Slater moves. Slater starts gaining some momentum but is put down with a sitout spinebuster. Carlito goes for the Backstabber but is too cocky talking trash to Christian. Slater counters into a jackknife counter, but Carlito barely kicks out. Carlito goes for a roll-up but is countered and pinned!

Winner via pinfall: Heath Slater

CM Punk is backstage with the Straight Edge Society, talking about Darren Young when he is standing right there. Punk says he can lead a horse to water but he can't make him drink. He says Straight Edge can make anyone a winner, or he can do things his own way and see how that turns out.

Match #3 - Wade Barrett (Manchester, England) vs. Justin Gabriel (Cape Town, South Africa)

Barrett working over Gabriel. Jericho comes over the commentary and yells into the mic about how Barrett is working over the back because of his influence. Barrett gets Gabriel onto the top turnbuckle but is pushed off right into a perfect positon for the 450 Splash. Gabriel drills it.

Winner via pinfall: Justin Gabriel

Jericho attacks Gabriel from behind and hits him with the Codebreaker after dispatching of Hardy. He slaps him with his jacket and locks in the old-school Walls of Jericho. He and Barrett celebrate as we fade to black.
