WWE NXT: Jericho humbles Bryan again
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: Daniel Bryan's luck hasn't been the best. His injured ribs don't get much time off as he faces Wade Barrett. Elsewhere, Justin Gabriel and Skip Sheffield make their debuts and both impress, but only one can get the win as they team with their pros in a tag team match. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Wichita, Kansas. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Match #1 - David Otunga (Hollywood, Calif.) vs. Darren Young (Miami, Fla.)

This is a return match from last week.

Backdrop lands for Otunga but Young quickly kicks out. He then throws Otunga out of the ring and keeps knocking him off the apron.

We're back and Young is working a headlock. He hits some stomps as his coach (CM Punk) seems more interested in peeling paint off the ring post. Back to a headlock for Young. Young charges Otunga in the corner but he moves and rolls him up for two. Young quickly fires back, though. Again Young gets in trouble charging Otunga in the corner and eats an elbow and a huge clothesline. Then Otunga shoulderblocks Young through the ropes. Luke Gallows goes to talk to R-Truth and Otunga goes off the ropes but is tripped by Punk. Young follows with a full nelson face-buster for the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Darren Young

After the match, Truth tries to console Otunga but gets shoved back for his efforts.

The doctor is backstage examining Daniel Bryan's badly-bruised ribs when The Miz comes in. He says he learned a valuable lesson last week and he will respect him. Miz says he has to learn to compete while injured and that he'll be facing Chris Jericho's rookie, Wade Barrett, next. He then slaps him in the ribs.

Matt Striker is backstage with Otunga and he and R-Truth end up getting in a pull-apart brawl after Truth takes exception to being shoved, saying Otunga isn't going to make a name off of him.

Match #2 - Wade Barrett (Manchester, England) vs. Daniel Bryan (Aberdeen, Wash.)

Barrett immediately goes after Bryan's ribs. Bryan sidesteps Barrett and he goes out of the ring. Then Bryan comes flying off the ring apron with a flying knee. Back in the ring, Bryan tries to springboard but slips. Barrett picks him up and slams him right down on his bad ribs and that's it.

Winner via pinfall: Wade Barrett

Jericho gets in the ring and locks in the old school Walls of Jericho on Bryan. He eventually lets it go.

Matt Striker is backstage with Justin Gabriel and Matt Hardy. Gabriel says he couldn't have asked for a better mentor. Hardy says Gabriel reminds him of a young him.

Match #3 - William Regal (Blackpool, England) & Skip Sheffield (College Station, Texas) vs. Matt Hardy (Cameron, N.C.) & Justin Gabriel (Cape Town, South Africa)

Regal in there with Gabriel. Regal goes to town on Gabriel in the corner and hits an exploder suplex. Regal gives a lecture to Sheffield and allows Gabriel to tag Hardy. But it's not a hot tag as he immediately attacks Hardy. In comes Sheffield and he beats on Hardy for a few and tags Regal back in. Hardy goes for a backslide but Regal spins out and hits a clubbing blow to the back of the neck. Sheffield in and he gets reversed but tags Regal. Regal scolds him and tells him to not do stupid things. As he does this, Hardy hits the Twist of Fate. Hardy tags in Gabriel, who goes to the top and hits a 450 splash for the pin.

Winners via pinfall: Matt Hardy & Justin Gabriel

Matt Striker is backstage with the other six rookies, including a doubled over Daniel Bryan when Carlito comes in, chews up his apple, looks around, and spits it in the face of Heath Slater. That's cool, Carlito says. That's NXT, Striker says.
