Kulka recalls Hart attack
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

Glenn Kulka isn’t surprised Bret Hart has licked his wounds and returned to WWE. Money and time have a way of overcoming anger.

Kulka, who played in the CFL for 11 years before moving into wrestling, was in Montreal for the 1997 Survivor Series, the infamous Montreal pay-per-view where Hart was a victim of a real-life plan to steal his championship belt, with ref Earl Hebner signalling for the bell and handing the title to Shawn Michaels.

Hart spotted Vince McMahon and spit on his boss.

“When the screwjob went down, I was standing there with Edge, Christian and a couple of others,” said Kulka, who lives in Ottawa. “Edge and Christian looked at each other and said, ‘We’re done.’

“They had been brought in by Bret. Some guys were standing around just mortified. Others were angry. When you see guys like Undertaker, guys who have been in the business for a long time and they’re shaken up like that ...

“Bret came back and he was breaking every camera he could see. Vince, with Shane, walked right past us, into Bret’s locker room.

“Vince comes out and he’s holding his eye. Bret came out later. He was calm. He told me: ‘I looked at Vince and told him if he wasn’t out of there by the time I came out of the shower, I was going to knock him out. I took my time in the shower. (He was still there.) So I punched him right in the eye.’ It was the first time I had seen the nasty side of the business.”
