WWE NXT: Jericho, Bryan kick off series in style
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on WWE NXT: Eight rookies meet their eight mentors in WWE's newest television endeavor. One rookie in particular, Daniel Bryan, is in for quite a night. He gets slapped by The Miz and then is booked in a match with the new World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Milwaukee, Wisc. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews are our commentators and Matt Striker is our host. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

We're taken backstage where all the rookies are lined up. The Miz walks in and looks them over and summons his rookie, Daniel Bryan. He runs down his credentials and says in WWE, you have to expect anything. So he instructs Bryan to go down to the ring (to Miz's music) and cut a promo. And have a catchphrase.

After Bryan leaves, Miz says if Bryan doesn't show personality, he is going to come down and slap some into him.

Bryan says to his fans around the world: He's sorry and wishes his pro was William Regal. He gets about five words into his promo when Miz interrupts. Bryan says he better watch what he says or he'll submit him right now. Miz wants to know where his charisma is, where his personality is. Bryan buries Miz by saying he was going to go on a reality show, have a faux-hawk and act like an idiot, but Miz already has the market cornered on that.

Bryan says if he and Miz fought, Miz would have two options: Tap or snap.

Miz asks the crowd about Bryan and they respond favorably. He says he doesn't think Bryan belongs in the ring with him, slaps him and leaves.

Bryan says there will be a time when he slaps Miz back.

Matt Striker is backstage with Daniel Bryan. He says it doesn't consider it embarrassing to be slapped because he'll get revenge. And he slaps a lot harder than Miz does.

Coming back from the promo, Michael Cole announced that Daniel Bryan will face World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho tonight.

Carlito now is out with Michael Tarver. They play a video package introducing him. They call him Mr. 1.9 Seconds because he can knock anyone out in that time.

Match #1 - Carlito (San Juan, P.R.) & Michael Tarver (Akron, Ohio) vs. Christian (Toronto, Ontario) & Heath Slater (Pineville, WV)

Slater hits a deep armdrag and yells out "WOOOOOOO!" So far they are using some different camera angles. Pros and rookies mixing in the ring. Slater starts to get worked over but hits a scoop slam on Tarver. Both men tag.

Christian hits a dropkick from the second turnbuckle and goes for the Killswitch but Carlito counters. Sunset flip for two from Christian but Carltio takes over. He tags in Tarver and it goes awry.

Slater takes out Carlito and Christian hits the flying European uppercut and follows up with the Killswitch for the win.

Winners via pinfall: Christian & Heath Slater

Match #2 - Darren Young (Miami, Fla.) vs. David Otunga (Hollywood, Calif.)

CM Punk is Young's mentor and has no idea why he is an NXT mentor.

And this one is over quickly. Otunga hits a big kinda tree slam for the win.

Winner via pinfall: David Otunga

Match #3 - Chris Jericho (Winnipeg, Manitoba) vs. Daniel Bryan (Las Vegas, NV)

Before Bryan comes out, Jericho has his rookie, Wade Barrett, give him the introduction he deserves.

First Barrett cuts a promo about how great Jericho is. Jericho interrupts him and says he just wants to introduction.

Jericho shoves Bryan and Bryan responds with a slap.

Jericho charges Bryan in the corner but Bryan moves. He unloads with kicks and a leg whip. Running knee for Bryan for two. Running forearm against the ropes. Suicide dive through the middle rope and Jericho catches him and whips him into the announce desk. HUGE welt on Bryan's side. Bryan springboards in but is caught into the Walls of Jericho but Jericho can't turn it. Bryan reverses and locks in a heel hook but Jericho gets to the ropes.

Bryan pursues but walks right into a Codebreaker. Jericho is slow to get up. He slows goes over and locks in an old school Walls of Jericho, complete with bend and knee on head and gets the tap.

Winner via submission: Chris Jericho

Miz gets in the ring and starts beating Bryan up. Miz yells at him about disrespecting him.

Matt Striker is backstage with the other rookies. The show ends with a music video recap of tonight's episode.
