'John Morrison is me with the volume turned up'

John Hennigan liked his Johnny Nitro character, but he's excited to be John Morrison and thrilled to have his own DVD tearing up the charts.

Morrison, a takeoff on dead Doors singer Jim Morrison, has adapted to the character with charisma, adding plenty of in-ring talent.

"Johnny Nitro was more a stage name. I really liked it, but it's like a Johnny Hollywood or Johnny Danger. They're stage names. Fans can't identify with you as much.

"It's cool where you can be a character and also be yourself. John Morrison is more like me. I have a lot in common with Jim Morrison. We both majored in film. And I write poetry, too. I am a big Doors fan. I'm big into the classic rock. Pink Floyd. The Grateful Dead. The Beatles. The Rolling Stones. That whole era."

"Everyone has a flamboyant part in real life. They have a wild side. In my job, I get to show that wild side. John Morrison is me with the volume turned up."

The DVD, John Morrison: Rock Star has just been released.

"I think this will be really successful," he says. "Usually, career retrospectives are three-disc collections. For me, doing this is one disc is a good call. It's engaging and fast-moving.

"I'm overcritical of everything I do. I'm never happy with anything, but when I saw the DVD, it was one of the few things I've been impressed with.

"It's all my best matches. Me vs. Punk in ECW. Me vs. Jericho. Edge. Jeff Hardy. Rey Mysterio. And then some. They're my favourite matches, with a lot of snippets from what I do in real life."

It was his choice to start the DVD with a loss -- to Punk. Morrison wanted to make sure the content was real and not too sanitized.

He's joined a special list of WWE stars with their own DVDs.

"I've taken a little ribbing from The Miz, but I made sure to give a signed copy to him ... and to his dad, who is a good friend of mine," said Morrison.

Hart condition

OK, so Bret Hart is selling a broken leg, but it would be shocking if The Hitman doesn't face Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania. Speculation is the leg, which was "broken" when a car backed into Hart on RAW, isn't really busted and he'll trick McMahon into a Mania match. Hope Vince isn't reading this, I'd hate to spoil the surprise.

Around the ring

On ECW's final night, Ezekiel Jackson won the ECW title, beating Christian. ECW will be replaced by NXT, which will have eight newcomers trained by eight WWE vets ... WWE.com promises some pay-per-view names changes. Look for Extreme Rules in April, Wild Card in May, Fatal Four Way in June and Money I the Bank in July.
