ECW: Extreme ending for Christian, what's NXT
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on ECW on Syfy: After three-and-a-half years as WWE's third brand, the end is here for ECW. But the Land of Extreme is going out with a bang, not a whimper, as tonight, we have two title matches. First, the Unified WWE Tag Team Championships are defended for the first time on ECW as The Big Show and The Miz face Yoshi Tatsu and Goldust. Then the ECW Championship bids adieu as Christian defends his title one last time, facing Ezekiel Jackson in an Extreme Rules match. Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from Kansas City, MO. Josh Mathews and Byron Saxton are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Match #1 - Unified WWE Tag Team Championship - (c) The Big Show (Tampa, Fla.) & The Miz (Cleveland, Ohio) vs. Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan) & Goldust (Hollywood, Calif.)
Charles Robinson is your referee.
Quick start for YoshiDust, including Goldust hitting a jumping butt bump on The Miz. Miz goes outside and runs around. He slides back in and tags in Big Show without Goldust seeing it. Goldust continues to pursue Miz but Big Show headbutts him and puts him in his place.
We're back and Goldust gets a tag to Tatsu, who immediately gets chopped into the next decade. This is just an exercise in futility for young Mr. Tatsu as he is being taken behind the proverbial woodshed by Big Show. Miz comes in and does not have the same success. Tatsu hits a roaring elbow and both men are down. Tatsu gets the tag.
He hits the sliding uppercut and a scoop slam. He goes for the cover but Big Show threatens to step in and he gets up. Tatsu comes flying over but is essentially swatted away by Show. As the referee checks on Tatsu, Goldust has Miz mounted in the corner. Show comes over and gut punches Goldust, allowing Miz to hit the Skull-Crushing Finale.
Winners via pinfall and STILL Unified WWE Tag Team Champions: The Big Show & The Miz
It's now time to reveal the first two NXT trainers: Chris Jericho will trade Wade Barrett, a former bare-knuckle fighter from England obsessed with money. Matt Hardy will train Justin Gabriel from South Africa.
Tiffany is here FOR THE LAST TIME to address ECW. She is going her address when she is interrupted by Zack Ryder and Rosa Mendes. He wonders why he, the heart and soul superhero of ECW, isn't in the final match. Tiffany says no dice. Ryder says well, it's Extreme Rules, so nobody can stop him from getting involved. Woo, Woo, Woo, You Know It.
Can we get a "Leave the Memories Alone" video for Tiffany, please?
MVP will mentor Skip Sheffield, an old fashioned Texas boy.
FOR THE LAST TIME, it's time for The Abraham Washington Show. Sadly, this might be the last time for Tony Atlas, as well. That would be a shame.
Abe said he went straight to VKM and asked for the biggest star in the country for the last show. Vince said he'd give him the biggest star. Abe then goes to the top of the couch and introduces ... himself.
The interview doesn't last long before Shelton Benjamin comes down. Benjamin comes down and buries Washington. He talks about being a free agent when Vance Archer comes down. He is quickly interrupted by Trent Barreta and Caylen Croft. They speak for a few seconds before KOZLOV comes down. Kozlov talks, Archer tells him no one can understand him and then shoves him. Kozlov takes everybody out except Benjamin. They face off and then shake hands and raise each other's hands.
Our latest pro is Carlito (LOL) and Michael Tarver, whose father was a sparring partner for Mike Tyson.
The next pro is The Miz and he will mentor Daniel Bryan, a man who claims to have more experience than any other competitor.
Next up is Christian, who will mentor Heath Slater, a "rock band without the instruments." He has a larger-than-life attitude.
CM Punk will train Darren Young, who possesses an immeasurable strength.
Match #2 - Extreme Rules Match for the ECW Championship - (c) Christian (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Ezekiel Jackson (Harlem, N.Y.)
Our first weapons shot is a kendo stick shot to ... the hands, knocking Jackson off the apron.
Christian is attacked by Zack Ryder from behind, but easily dispatches of him. throwing him into a trash can then throwing him over the top rope. Rosa Mendes comes in and slaps Christian across the face hard and talks trash. Then out of nowhere, Tiffany sprints (and I mean sprints) to the ring, spearing Mendes and taking her out.
We're back and Jackson is clubbering Christian. Christian goes to the top rope but Jackson pushes him off to the floor. He pulls out the steps and smashes Christian's head into them. He goes to smash a trash can into Christian but he moves and picks up the can and drop kicks it into Jackson's face.
Despite taking the shot, Jackson recovers. He tries to smash Christian between the shopping cart that contained the weapons and the steps but Christian moves. Instead, Jackson just puts him into the cart.
In the ring, Christian recovers and hits the pendulum kick complete with trash can lid shot but again, Jackson is too much. Jackson and William Regal grab a table from under the ring but as they move to put it into the ring, Christian dropkicks it into their faces. Again, Jackson is too much and puts Christian onto the top turnbuckle and sets up the table. He goes for a superplex but Christian hangs on and knocks him off. Christian tries for a tornado DDT but goes over the table as Jackson counters.
Christian hits Jackson in the midsection with a kendo stick shot and chases Regal up the ramp. He comes back in and hits Jackson in the ankle with a kendo stick. But before Christian can hit the Killswitch, Regal attacks him from behind. He goes for the knee trembler but Christian moves and hits the Killswitch but turns around and walks right into the uranage through the table. It's academic.
Winner via pinfall and NEW ECW Champion: Ezekiel Jackson
The final cast member and pro is R-Truth training David Otunga. Don't know why they waited all this time to reveal R-Truth as the final trainer.
The final edition of ECW goes off the air with Jackson holding the belt above his head and Regal holding his arm high on the ramp.
Fade to black.
