ECW: What's next for ECW?
MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on ECW on Syfy: Mr. McMahon is in the house out of the blue to address the future of ECW. What will the WWE Chairman have in store for WWE's third brand? Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from Memphis, Tenn. Josh Mathews and Byron Saxton are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
We are welcomed to The Abraham Washington Show. Per usual, Washington and Tony Atlas banter for a bit before Washington brings out his guest -- ECW Champion Christian.
Christian talks for a bit before he is interrupted by Zack Ryder. He brings him Gregory Helms and shows his mugshot on the TitanTron to further his vendetta against Helms -- he wants to continue to be known as the Heart and Soul Superhero of ECW.
Christian says Ryder is just jealous that Helms made it on TMZ. Ryder says he was in the Royal Rumble and Christian says he must've blinked and missed it.
Christian talks about making mistakes and how everybody makes them, but Ryder's biggest mistake was hooking up with Tila Tequila. Ryder gets in his face and Christian shoves him onto the couch. Washington ends the show.
Match #1 - Shelton Benjamin (Orangeburg, S.C.) vs. Vance Archer (Dallas, Texas)
Archer in control but Benjamin gets out of a suplex and hits a neckbreaker for two. Both men are down. Benjamin jumps out of the way of a charging Archer and goes for a sunset flip but Archer sits down but grabs the ropes and the referee won't count it. Instead, Archer takes Benjamin down and puts his feet on the ropes and gets the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Vance Archer
Match #2 - Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan) vs. Trent Barreta (Mount Sinai, N.Y.)
Tatsu goes to the top but Barreta stops him and hits a hurricanrana. He rolls Tatsu up but Tatsu kicks out at 2 7/8. As Barreta argues with the ref, he turns around and walks right into the high kick. Good night now.
Winner via pinfall: Yoshi Tatsu
It's time for Mr. McMahon's big announcement about the future of ECW.
Mr. McMahon says that in three weeks time, ECW will be going off the air. What? I'm unemployed???
But instead, in its place will be a "new, innovative, never-before-seen program" to Syfy. It will be the "next evolution of WWE and the next evolution of television history. Thank you very much."
Uhh, that's it?
Gregory Helms is in the ring and he welcomes Ezekiel Jackson to the ring.
Helms asks Jackson how he plans to get past the loss to Christian. William Regal says it's been a trying week for Helms. Helms say he's going to get past it and he's just there to do his job. Regal says, unfortunately, his week is about to get worse. Regal and Jackson go to town on Helms with each hitting their finish before Christian bails Helms out, running to the ring with a kendo stick and cleaning house.
Match #3 - Christian (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.)
Ryder comes off the buckle but Christian flapjacks him. He hits the missile dropkick but Ryder kicks out at two. Christian goes for the springboard sunset flip but Ryder sits down and Christian barely kicks out. Ryder whips Christian into the corner and charges but Christian moves and hits the pendulum kick. He follows up with the flying European uppercut and starts calling for the Killswitch. He turns Ryder and hits it but Jackson and Regal hit the ring and Jackson starts pounding Christian.
Winner via disqualification: Christian
On the outside, Regal hits the knee trembler and Jackson throws Christian into the steps.
