ECW: Sidewalk slams for everybody
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on ECW on Syfy: Party like it's 2008! Following last week's return to 2009, ECW takes another trip into the time machine when former brand champion Kane teams with current ECW kingpin Christian to face William Regal and Ezekiel Jackson. Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from Cincinnati, Ohio. Josh Mathews and Byron Saxton are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
William Regal is in the ring and welcomes "the next ECW Champion," Ezekiel Jackson.
Jackson says Christian has five days left as ECW Champion. He talks a little more until Christian interrupts.
Christian also reads from the Book of Ezekiel, although I think Samuel L. Jackson did it better in Pulp Fiction. Jackson says Christian hasn't faced anyone like him. But Christian says he's a two-time ECW Champion and has found a way to beat everyone in his path.
Christian says last week it was 2-on-1. This week he has evened the score, which is Kane's cue.
Match #1 - Christian (Toronto, Ontario) & Kane (Hell, Fire & Brimstone) vs. William Regal (Blackpool, England) & Ezekiel Jackson (Harlem, N.Y.)
Regal and Jackson pin Kane in the corner and double team him. Regal works the left leg. The heels are making quick tags and isolating Kane in their corner. Jackson works a vicious front headlock but Kane gets out. He sidesteps a bullrushing Jackson and gets the tag to Christian to no reaction whatsoever from the crowd.
Christian hits a missile dropkick but Jackson pushes him off on the cover. Scorpian Death Drop on Jackson then Christian hits Regal off the apron and sends Jackson to the outside. He then leaps out onto them.
We're back and Kane is in control of the No. 1 contender. He brings Christian in and he goes for an Irish whip but Jackson just grabs him and throws him over the top rope. Outside, Christian gets into it with Regal and Jackson uses that to come over and just run Christian over.
More double teams and isolation from the heels but Christian finally tags Kane in. He goes wild on Regal and I'm counting down until the sidewalk slam. He goes corner-to-corner with clotheslines and there it is! The sidewalk slam. He follows that up with the flying clothesline. He lines Regal up for the chokeslam but is hit from behind by Jackson. Christian tags in and Kane throws Christian into Jackson from the top rope.
Christian goes for the Killswitch on Regal but is reversed. On the outside, Jackson runs Kane into the post. Christian goes for the Killswitch again after avoiding the knee trembler but he's in the corner and Jackson makes a blind tag. He comes in and hits the unsuspecting Christian with the uranage for the fall.
Winners via pinfall: Ezekiel Jackson & William Regal
Jackson poses with his foot on Christian's face.
Shelton Benjamin cuts a promo on the Royal Rumble. In the middle of it, he is attacked from behind by Vance Archer. He spoke. They zoomed in on his face.
Match #2 - Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.), Trent Barreta (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) & Caylen Croft (Youngstown, Ohio) vs. The Hurricane (North Carolina), Goldust (Hollywood, Calif.) & Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan)
The WWE Draft cannot come soon enough for Ryder and Tatsu.
Croft works over Hurricane, doing a whole lot of nothing. Barreta tags in and screams out his name because nobody knows who he is. I'm actually very appreciative of the two adding their names on their trunks.
Barreta works a headlock and slings Hurricane back as he gets close to the corner. Barreta brings Ryder in. The referee has to pull Ryder off Hurricane and as he's backing away Ryder tells the ref, "I know the rules!" I chuckled. More sweet headlock action. Hurricane gets brief hope with a sunset flip but Ryder is right back on him, tagging in Croft, who continues the heat.
Right now, Rosa Mendes talking trash from the outside is the best thing about this. Hurricane finally tags Tatsu in. He hits Barreta with a spinning heel kick and a back-body drop. Kicks galore for Tatsu. He goes to the top with another spinning heel kick but Ryder breaks the fall. Goldust disposes of Ryder. Barreta and Croft go to double team Goldust, but he slides and hits Croft with the uppercut while Tatsu drills Barreta with the head kick.
Winners via pinfall: Yoshi Tatsu, Goldust & The Hurricane
