Smackdown: Batista, Mysterio battle for title shot
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on Friday Night Smackdown: To put it lightly, Big Dave Batista was not happy with Theodore Long's decision to restart the World Title match at TLC. So tonight, he gets a chance to earn another shot at the title when he meets his former best friend Rey Mysterio in the main event. Should be a good one!

And we are TAPED! from Laredo, Texas. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Smackdown General Manager Theodore Long makes his way to the ring, presumably to address his involvement in the World Heavyweight Championship match at TLC.

Long says tonight they are going to determine a new No. 1 contender for the Undertaker's title when he is interrupted by Batista, who says Long's No. 1 contender is him. He says he's going to give Long one more chance to make it right. Batista talks some more and he is interrupted by a flannel-clad Rey Mysterio.

Rey says he wants to challenge Batista. Rey says Batista's nothing but a bully. Batista says he'll beat Mysterio up again. Long says tonight, the two will wrestle to determine the No. 1 contender for the title. And apparently, that title shot will come next week.

Hardy kicks Punk in the gut looking for the Twist of Fate, but Punk pushes him off. With the referee distracted trying to get Morrison out of the ring, Gallows tosses Punk his Slammy. Punk drills Hardy in his "surgically-repaired abdomen" and gets the pin.

He breaks it and comes off the ropes and runs right into the big chop. Khali calls for the vice grip, but Jericho ducks and rolls out. He's had enough.

Match #4 - The Hart Dynasty (Calgary, Alberta) vs. Jimmy Wang Yang (Austell, Georgia) & Slam Master J (The ATL)

Match #6 - No. 1 Contender's Match for the World Heavyweight Championship - Rey Mysterio (San Diego, Calif.) vs. Batista (Washington, D.C.)

Mysterio kicks Batista in the knee right into position for the 619 and he hits it. He goes for the splash from the top rope but Batista gets his knees up for two.

Batista puts the boots to Rey in the corner. He picks him up and hits the power slam this time but Mysterio kicks out. He goes for the Batista Bomb but he takes too much time and Mysterio slips out. He goes off the ropes but Batista catches him for a slam but Mysterio gets his hand on the bottom rope. Batista goes for the Batista Bomb again but Rey gets out and sends Batista to the outside. Big Dave goes crazy, screams and grabs a chair but throws it down when the refs threatens a DQ. So he comes back into the ring and spears Mysterio for 2 7/8. He can't believe it.
