Superstars: Swagger, MVP battle in main event action
By MATT JOHNSON - SLAM! Wrestling

Tis the Christmas season. To show my dedication to SLAM! Wrestling and covering WWE Superstars, I cut my appearance at a Christmas party short. Needless to say it should be a more entertaining edition of Superstars than usual!

By the way, I understand that some wrestling “journalists” did not approve of Dennis Miller’s comedy on Raw. I say tough luck for them. Not only did I appreciate his humor on Raw, I actually enjoyed him on Monday Night Football. I do not understand how someone could rag on Dennis Miller. It has to either be a case of an angry liberal upset over his political views or someone too unsophisticated for his humor. Anyways, on to Superstars.

Match #1 –Cryme Tyme vs. Mike Knox & Dolph Zigger

Could there be any stranger combination than Mike Knox and Dolph Ziggler? Why is Dolph being relegated to this position? Early offense for Dolph and Knox in this one. Knox hits a cross body block on Shad and they go to commercial.

Dolph is applying a chinlock after the break. Knox hits a splash for a two count. Grisham says Knox’s favorite activities are to fight and read books. Isn’t that Ezekiel Jackson’s gimmick? Knox apples another chinlock, but Shad ights his way back. Knox stops Shad with a dropkick. Dolph applies a chinlock, but Shad fights his way out. Both men tag, and JTG explodes on offense against Knox. JTG pushes Knox’s face in the mat and goes for the pin, but Dolph interferes. JTG eventually hits the Shout Out on Knox for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Cryme Tyme

They show a preview for the Marine. It looks pretty good. (Keep a straight face).

A commercial airs for Tribute to the Troops. Apparently Obama will have a filmed message on the show. His press office is now saying that the message is not exclusive to WWE and is just showing gratitude towards the troop. Apparently there is a fear of aiding Linda McMahon’s Senate campaign.

Match #2 –Vance Archer vs.Tommy Dreamer

A commercial airs for Tribute to the Troops. Apparently Obama will have a filmed message on the show. His press office is now saying that the message is not exclusive to WWE and is just showing gratitude towards the troop. Apparently there is a fear of aiding Linda McMahon’s Senate campaign.

Holy bland Batman, it’s Vance Archer! Sorry, that wasn’t fair. Making fun of Byron Sexton is fair, however. He is just horrible. Sorry Byron!

Winner via :pinfall Vance Archer

\My bet is this one doesn’t go long. Archer stomps on Dreamer’s head early, ending criticism of WWE’s insensitivity to concussions. Not much of a battle here. The age of Tommy Dreamer and the original ECW appears to be long gone. Archer wins with a reverse swinging DDT.

A commercial for the History of the World Heavyweight Championship Wrestling airs. Something tells me some former NWA champions would contend with this generalization.

Match #3 - MVP vs. Jack Swagger

After an initial lockup, MVP takes control early, working Swagger into the corner. Swagger goes on offense, but MVP skins the cat. Swagger sees the maneuver and clotheslines MVP to the mat. Commercial time.

Swagger is in control on the mat after the break. After Swagger aims for MVP’s mid-section, he takes the attack to the outside. Swagger attacks MVP in the corner, but MVP turns it around with some big kicks. MVP eventually tries the big Chono Boot. MVP hits a two count after “ballin”. Swagger attempts a gut wrench powerbomb, but Dempsey clotheslines him. MVP gets a close count. Swagger hits a kick to the jaw. MVP hits the Playmaker for the pin.

Winner via pinfall: MVP

Well that was just OK. There is nothing really memorable about the show. Just an average episode of Superstars.
