Smackdown - Last push to TLC
By JOHN POLLOCK -- Live Audio Wrestling (Special to SLAM! Wrestling)

Batista comes out to start the show and I'm amused by a kid with a sign that says ‘BAD-tista'. Batista cuts a promo that he didn't ask for this street fight with Rey Mysterio and he doesn't deserve the match. He wants to get some things off his chest such as fans booing him (he doesn't care) and states he is not here to make friends but instead make money and win titles and he demands a spotlight - no he actually demanded the lights dimmed and a spotlight come on top of him. He says everything about himself screams ‘champion' from the way he walks, talks and even dresses - this was the best promo of Batista's career and he will not stay heel very long with promos like this.

CM Punk and Luke Gallows come out and Punk condemns those that have bought the Jeff Hardy DVD and compare this gift to stuffing stockings with hallucinogenic mushrooms and that if you buy this DVD you are probably unemployed. Punk and Gallows stomp and break the DVD.

R-Truth comes out with Matt Hardy and a bag of DVDs. This was funny as R-Truth yelled ‘What's up?' and Punk yelled ‘STRAIGHT EDGE'. Punk freaked over fans getting free copies of the DVD and yells that it's ‘poison' and telling fans to go ‘sell it on eBay'.

CM Punk & Luke Gallows Vs R-Truth & Matt Hardy

Striker discusses the Book of Luke from the Bible and compares it to Gallows. Truth sells and makes a recovery after hitting a dropkick to Punk, who attempted a springboard. Hot tag to Matt Hardy, who attempted the twist of fate but Punk countered and tried the Go to Sleep but was countered and then Gallows came in with a big boot and the 12th step to Hardy for the win.

Backstage Eric Escobar is talking to Vickie Guerrero in Spanish and Teddy Long walks in. Escobar explains he was telling Guerrero that in public people thought Vickie was his mother. Guerrero does her freak out and makes a match with Escobar and Chris Jericho.

Chris Jericho Vs Eric Escobar

Striker states in the match that with the exception of Matt Hardy that Chris Jericho has the most TLC experience of anyone (umm - Edge? Jeff Hardy? Christian?) . 1:00 into the match Vickie comes out and makes it a handicap match with Big Show added - no reference to the Vickie / Big Show love angle that was a WrestleMania program this year. Show hits a shoulder block, a leg guillotine and steps on top of Escobar, Jericho tags in and wins it with the Walls of Jericho.

Jericho cuts a promo stating they will eradicate DX from the WWE on Sunday.

Drew McIntyre comes out to the ring and is pissed that John Morrison is on a WWE magazine cover - he is livid over this omission and states he beat Morrison ‘and if you don't believe me that here is the proof' - who is the hell that watched Smackdown every week would doubt him? We all saw this match, your proof is valid. This leads to Morrison coming as William Wallace with the face paint and sword and sandals. He did a Scottish accent but the highlight was Morrison holding up his sword in front of his face and trying to head butt it into McIntyre but in the process HE CUT HIMSELF OVER THE LEFT EYE - amusing. They fight at the end and have their match at the PPV this Sunday.

Kane Vs Mike Knox

Earlier in the show Knox told Kane he would send him to the hospital but that he would be in the ambulance and fix him. Knox went for an Orton style back breaker but Kane countered and won with a chokeslam in 1:56 - I suspect these two will likely wind up as a tag team.

Michelle McCool & Layla Vs Mickie James & Maria

Maria was wearing this weird Rockers style leg warmers - I know her gimmick is she's a fashion stylist but this was hideous looking. Maria hit a tilt-a-whirl leg scissors on McCool and made the hot tag to James. James tossed Layla into McCool and knocked her off the apron and rolled up Layla for the win - not much of a match and only went 1:56.

Batista Vs Rey Mysterio in a ‘Street Fight'

They did a cat and mouse spot ending with Rey hitting a baseball slide to knock Batista into the barricade - when they came back from break Dave had the advantage after he tossed Rey into the steps and was working on his back. Batista started whipping Rey with a camera cable and Striker enforced the severity of this cable. Batista brought a chair into the match but took a drop toe hold onto it from Rey. Rey hit a 619 and splash for a two count that the crowd popped for and then followed up with chair shot to the arm of Dave, who made a comeback with a spear. Finish was a protected chair shot by Dave to Rey and the clean pin. Dave attempted to break Rey's leg after the match but Undertaker made the save and they fought to end the show.

This was a pretty good go home show, Batista as a heel is really clicking for me and the title should be put on him this Sunday. Punk needs a better program as he is really solid on the stick but has been stuck with R-Truth and the program with Punk and Jeff Hardy is a ready made ‘Mania angle. I'm totally done with Eric Escobar and never want to see this guy ever again.
