Smackdown: Batista stays one step ahead
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on Friday Night Smackdown: After taking a licking from Batista last week, the Undertaker is out for revenge. With the World Heavyweight Championship on the line in a Chairs Match at TLC, both men are looking to make a statement. Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from Hampton, Va. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Match #1 - CM Punk (Chicago, Ill.) vs. R-Truth (Charlotte, N.C.)
Punk works over the left arm and shoulder and is in control. Truth fires back, hitting a big hip toss. He starts to go for a scissors kick, but Luke Gallows grabs his feet once he hits the ropes.
Winner via disqualification: R-Truth
Gallows does a number on Truth on the outside. He throws him in the ring and runs him into the post. He holds him up for Punk to hit the running knee in the corner. Gallows hits his finish and they gloat.
Match #2 - Kane (Hell, Fire & Brimstone) vs. Mike Knox (Phoenix, Ariz.)
Knox goes for the big pump kick but Kane catches it and hits an uppercut then the choke slam for the duke.
Winner via pinfall: Kane
Match #3 - Triple Threat Match to determine the #1 Contender's Match for the WWE Women's Championship - Mickie James (Richmond, Va.) vs. Beth Phoenix (Buffalo, N.Y.) vs. Natalya (Calgary, Alberta)
Michelle McCool and Layla are at ringside wearing "Piggie James" tank tops. Gross.
Mickie is down and Beth is struggling to get up so Natalya goes to apply the Sharpshooter on Mickie. Beth breaks it up in mid-move and hits Natalya with the Glam Slam. She goes for the cover but Mickie knocks her off and out of the ring and covers Natalya.
Winner via pinfall: Mickie James
McCool and Layla engage in a post-match beatdown after Mickie instigates it but the returning Maria makes the save.
Match #4 - John Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) vs. Drew McIntyre (Ayr, Scotland)
They go to the outside and flip up the ring apron. Morrison goes to pull McIntyre up but McIntyre pulls him head first into the ring's steel support. Morrison is out of it. He puts Morrison back in the ring and hits the double-arm DDT and that's it.
Winner via pinfall; Drew McIntyre
Vickie Guerrero is in the ring. She complains about being humiliated by Eric Escobar last week. She says if he apologizes, he can have a job. So Escobar comes out and says he is very, very sorry — sorry that they ever met. Oh, that Eric Escobar, always the trickster!
He rips on her some more, standard fare and Vickie screams and says she can end his career tonight, but that is too easy. He's going to have to pay — via a handicap match with the Hart Dynasty ... NOW!
Match #5 - Tyson Kidd (Calgary, Alberta) & David Hart Smith (Calgary, Alberta) vs. Eric Escobar (San Juan, Puerto Rico)
Hart Dynasty dominate, hitting the Hart Attack for the convincing win.
Winners via pinfall: Tyson Kidd & David Hart Smith
After the match, Kidd brings Vickie into the ring and she slaps Escobar and Smith kicks him in the gut. Vickie leaves with the Harts.
Match #6 - Cryme Tyme (Brooklyn, N.Y.) vs. Chris Jericho (Winnipeg, Manitoba) & The Big Show (Tampa, Fla.)
Jericho and JTG go at it and both end up down. They each make the tag and Shad comes in and runs right into the knockout punch and that's all she wrote.
Winners via pinfall: The Big Show & Chris Jericho
It's now time for the big confrontation between The Undertaker and Batista. Of course, Batista destroyed Taker last week.
Taker is making his way to the ring when Batista attacks him from behind with a chair. Big Dave sends Taker into the steps and goes to town. He sends him into the steps again and chokes him with the chair. Batista throws him in the ring and hits a spinebuster onto the chair. He poses with the belt over the Undertaker. After some replays, he adds a belt shot to the head for good measure.
