Superstars: Ziggler impresses in victory over Hardy
By MATT JOHNSON - SLAM! Wrestling

Raw had to deal with competition from the undefeated New Orleans Saints and traditional powerhouse New England Patriots. Something tells me Superstars will not be harmed by NFL Network’s coverage of tonight’s Buffalo Bills-New York Jets contest. First off, there are still a bunch of homes that do not get NFL Network. Second of all, the teams in the game are going nowhere.

Speaking of networks, Comcast has purchased a majority interest in NBC Universal. Will Comcast somehow favor WWE over TNA? If Comcast really wants to get nasty, they could just air TNA Impact reruns and it should scare potential fans away from Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Wow, that full name sounds awful!

Just when I thought my three day headache could not get worse, Michael Cole starts talking. OK, enough negativity. I know I am reporting on a wrestling show on the Internet, but there needs to be a limit on snide remarks before the matches even start.

Match #1 –Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase vs. Evan Bourne & Primo Colon

Positive comments only, so I need to compliment Ted Dibiase for not wearing a nose ring. Now if he could only spread the word. Cody and Primo start this one. After some back and forth action, Primo and Dibiase enter. Bourne hits some dropkicks and an elbow. Dibiase turns back Primo’s offense, and Legacy successfully double team Primo. No wisecracks! Bourne tags back in and hits some kicks on Dibiase. Rhodes grabs the top rope, sending Bourne to the floor. Commercial.

Grabbing a Diet Pepsi. Back. Dibiase has Bourne in a headlock after the break. After a brief comeback by Bourne, Dibiase sends him flying with a clothesline. Rhodes makes his way in and hits a nice suplex. Primo tries to fight his way out, but Cody channels his inner-Bob Backlund and applies a crossface chicken wing. Dibiase tags in the beating continues. Legacy take turns beating on Bourne, until Bourne fights his way out of a suplex with an elbow and tags in Primo. Primo is on fire hitting Rhodes with dropkicks. Bourne flies off the rope and hits Dibiase outside the ring. However, Rhodes his Cross Rhodes on Primo and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Cody Rhodes & Ted Dibiase

Ask the Divas time. What is your favorite city to visit? Sydney, Buffalo, Jacksonville, and three votes for New York City. The answers came from (in order): Eve, Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, and the Bellas. Next question. Do you have an escape plan for a bad date? So suffers through it. The others have a friend break it up with a text of call. So guys, don’t fall for that!

Did you know that more people watched Superstars than any program on MTV, VH1, and CNN last Thursday. I can honestly say that I did not.

Match #2 –The Hurricane vs. Zack Ryder

For all of the people who stopped watching wrestling in favor of MMA, we get the Hurricane. Is it me, or is Rosa’s character completely different than when she was on Raw? I suppose continuity doesn’t matter.

Hurricane hits an early arm drag and works on Ryder’s arm. Hurricane beats back Ryder’s attempts at offense, until Ryder hits a leg lariot. Ryder hits some kicks on Hurricane. Hurricane hits a Lout Thesz Press. Hurricane goes to the top rope and Ryder tries to superplex him. Ryder gets thrown from the rope. Hurricane hits a cross body, but Ryder escapes the ring. A masked wrestler hits the ring and attacks Hurricane. My guess is that it is either Paul Burchill or the Great Muta. OK, it’s Paul Burchill.

Winner via disqualification: The Hurricane

A video airs promoting DX because they do not get enough air time. Next comes the Raw Rebound. This would be the down time of the show. Nothing against Raw, but my guess is that most of the people watching Superstars saw it. I honestly do not hold it against them for showing it, though. It makes it seem more important.

Matt Hardy and Dolph Ziggler in the main event. Two roads diverged in a wood… These careers really seem to be going in opposite directions. Physically the men are a lot different. One of them seems to live in the gym and the other does not. It will be interesting to see what kind of chemistry they have.

Match #3 –Matt Hardy vs. Dolph Ziggler

Hardy starts with an arm bar. Dolph hits a punch and gets an early two count. I like his sneaky style. It sets him apart from the other Superstars, which is the name of the game. Hardy knocks Dolph outside the ring. Hardy continues his attack outside the ring before throwing Dolph back in. After an elbow from the middle rope, Hardy attempts a knee lift, but Dolph escapes. They go to commercial as Dolph escapes the ring.

Dolph is applying a headlock after the break. When Hardy climbs the ropes to go after Dolph, Dolph drops and sweeps Hardy’s leg, causing Hardy to drop to the mat. Dolph takes off his elbow pad and hits Hardy with several elbows. Dolph applies a move similar to the Anaconda Vice. Hardy fights his way back with some clotheslines and elbows. Hardy jumps off the middle rope, but gets kicked in the gut by Dolph. Dolph smashes Hardy’s face into the mat and gets a two count. Hardy attempts a Twist of Fate, but Dolph counters into a backslide and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler is favorite in the SLAM! Wrestling WWE Superstars Reporting Universe. He moves around the ring at a different pace than all of the other wrestlers on the roster. It is very difficult to stand out, and he does. Hats off to Dolph for leading Matt Hardy to a great match. Excellent edition of WWE Superstars. Tell a friend to watch the replay.
