ECW: A glimpse into the future
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on ECW on Syfy: The course is set for the coming future in the Land of Extreme. Shelton Benjamin has the chance to become the No. 1 contender for Christian's ECW Championship when he battles Zack Ryder and William Regal and Yoshi Tatsu look to climb back up the ladder in tonight's main event. Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from Bridgeport, Conn. Josh Mathews and Byron Saxton are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Match #1 - Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.) vs. Shelton Benjamin (Orangeburg, S.C.)
Big belly-to-belly gets a two count for Benjamin. Benjamin sends Ryder for a ride to the outside. Rosa Mendes checks on Ryder and Benjamin heads out, as well.
We're back and Ryder is in control with a headlock, having gained the edge when Rosa distracted Benjamin leading to a leg lariat. Ryder locks in a leg scissors but Benjamin elbows his way out but Ryder goes to the top and hits a big splash for two. From there, Benjamin starts to fire up, hitting the Stinger Splash. Benjamin soon hits Paydirt and that's it.
Winner via pinfall: Shelton Benjamin
With the win, Benjamin becomes the No. 1 contender for the ECW Championship.
So Christian makes his way out. And they go to break.
Very abrupt cutback and Christian already is talking. He says their title match should be at TLC and it should be a ladder match. They talk about stealing the show and Benjamin accepts the proposal.
William Regal, Ezekiel Jackson and Kozlov are backstage stewing. Regal says it's an outrage he isn't defending the title at TLC. He says defeating Yoshi Tatsu will bring him one step closer to his goal.
Match #2 - Vance Archer (Dallas, Texas) vs. Alex Reynolds (Bridgeport, Conn.)
Archer squash, 2:29
Winner via pinfall: Vance Archer
It's now time for The Abraham Washington Show, with your host Abraham Washington.
Washington hits his monologue and welcomes his guest for the night, one Matthew Hardy. They talk about essentially nothing.
And Tony Atlas rules the world.
Match #3 - Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan) vs. William Regal (Blackpool, England)
Out of nowhere, Tatsu drills Regal with the high kick and that's it. Could not have been more than two minutes.
Winner via pinfall: Yoshi Tatsu
Tatsu runs off when Kozlov and Jackson enter the ring and Regal is, to put it mildly, very upset at them. Regal is giving to Kozlov and he passes the buck to Jackson by pointing at him. Jackson calmly puts his finger down and pulls him in and nails him with a uranage. Regal tells him he didn't have to do that. Then Jackson gets in Regal's face and gives him the same treatment. He storms off to the back.
