ECW: Regal comes up short again
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Syfy: After being denied another chance at the ECW Championship for so long, William Regal finally gets his shot against champion Christian tonight. And it comes in his home country of England. Should be a good one!

And we are TAPED! from the Sheffield, England. Josh Mathews and Byron Saxton are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

And we go straight to this week's edition of The Abraham Washington Show. Washington and Tony Atlas make fun of the British to start before welcoming his guest, Yoshi Tatsu, who is IN A SUIT.

A "Yoshi!" chant breaks out almost immediately. They quickly hit the back-and-forth "thank you" schtick. Atlas says "you're welcome" to laughs and Washington tells him to shut up to thunderous boos. Washington wants his opinion on the upcoming ECW Championship match tonight. Tatsu gives him a very understandable answer, but Washington says he has no idea what he said and they then recreate a scene from "Rush Hour" about understanding "the words that are coming out my mouth." Washington calls him a wannabe Jackie Chan. Tatsu says if he's Chan, Washington is a stupid Chris Tucker.

Washington has heard enough and ends the show. He gets up and starts waving to the crowd and tells Tatsu to do the same. Instead, he keeps bowing to the crowd. They then get in a bow-off before Washington says he's had enough. Washington and Atlas walk off and Tatsu watches them to the back and then waves to the crowd.

Match #1 - Paul Burchill (Chelsea, England) vs. Goldust (Hollywood, Calif.)

Burchill's mask vs. career match against The Hurricane now has been moved to next week.

Burchill takes command when he moves out of the way of a Goldust charge in the corner. Burchill locks in body scissors and a cover for two, but Goldust fires up but Burchill pushes him off on a bulldog attempt and hits a kick to the body when The Hurricane's music hits. He runs to the ring and runs around it, distracting Burchill and allowing Goldust to hit the Final Cut for the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Goldust

Zack Ryder is backstage when Rosa Mendes walks up. Ryder says she did a good job ring announcing last week. Ryder says he likes her and anytime she wants to come down to the ring with him and be in his corner, she's welcome to do so. She says, yeah, maybe. She walks away and we go into another Ryder daydream where the snuggle noses and skip down the hallway hand-in-hand. Somebody is smitten.

William Regal and Tiffany are backstage. He wants Tiffany to imagine what her life will be like he is ECW Champion. They are both of the opinion they need to get off to a fresh start. Tiffany is almost giggling while Regal smiles at her and scowls as he walks away.

Match #2 - Vance Archer (Dallas, Texas) vs. Jason Blackwell (Sheffield, England)

Archer squash.

Winner via pinfall: Vance Archer

Match #3 - ECW Championship - (c) Christian (Toronto, Ontario/227 pounds) vs. William Regal (Blackpool, England/240 pounds)

Split crowd here for this one.

Christian with a backbody drop and a reverse DDT. Regal works a reverse chinlock and forearms Christian into the corner. Regal sets Christian on the top turnbuckle but Christian punches him off and hits a flying crossbody for two. He then does the standing rope-pull to boos and goes for a missile dropkick but Regal cuts him off. They battle on the ropes and Regal hits a double-underhook butterfly suplex from the top rope.

Regal is slow on the over and only gets a two count. He goes back to work with a chinlock.

We're back and Christian misses a baseball slide to the outside and Regal hits an exploder suplex on the floor. He rolls Christian back in the ring and gets a two count. Series of European uppercuts for Regal and a kick and a cover for two.

Christian starts to fire up, though, and hits an elbow drop. Christian goes for a tornado DDT but Regal pushes him backward and onto the floor. The count is on and Christian makes Regal come get him and attacks. He hits a flying dropkick, then a missile dropkick for two. He pushes Regal but eats a forearm for two. Christian ducks the knee trembler but Regal hits it coming back but Christian kicks out and Regal can't believe it. He picks Christian up but Christian reverses and goes for the Killswitch but Regal counters into the Regal Stretch but it's near the ropes. Christian thinks of tapping but Christian breaks the hold without the ropes and fires off several elbows to the face. Regal runs right into a dropkick.

Christian hits the flying European uppercut. He goes for the Killswitch again but Regal hits a T-Bone suplex. He lines him up for the knee trembler again but Christian moves and this time hits the Killswitch to retain.

Winner via pinfall and STILL ECW Champion: Christian
