ECW: Jericho makes surprise appearance, faces Christian
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Syfy: Team Smackdown co-captain Chris Jericho apparently isn't too happy with his team, so he's come to the Land of Extreme looking for new talent. But esteemed ECW General Manager Tiffany is having none of it, determined not to let Jericho cherry-pick her top talent. Instead, since Jericho can wrestle on all three shows, she books him in a match with her champion, Christian. Should be a good one!

Cold open with Abraham Washington backstage, who proclaims he is the show's host tonight. He says they have something special when someone walks through the screen. Washington accosts him and he turns around and it's Chris Jericho, who asks where the general manager's office is.

And we are "LIVE!" from the University of South Carolina. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Match #1 - No. 1 Contender's Match - Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan) vs. Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.)

Ryder dropkicks Tatsu to the outside. In the ring, Ryder presses Tatsu in the corner and hits a bodyslam. Ryder with a kick to the body and then leg scissors. Ryder charges at Tatsu in the corner but Tatsu moves and hits the roaring elbow.

Tatsu fires away with a series of kick that send Ryder crashing to the mat. He follows up with a running double-knees to the chest and a kick to the back of the head for two. Tatsu goes to the top but Ryder cuts him off. Ryder goes for a Superplex but Tatsu hits him and they both go tumbling to the floor.

We're back and Ryder is in control with a modified chinlock. Tatsu gets up and slingshots Ryder into the corner and hits the former Elijah Express and a roll-up for two. Tatsu goes to the apron but Ryder hits him. Tatsu comes back with a headkick and then a springboard splash for the three count.

Winner via pinfall: Yoshi Tatsu

Rosa Mendes is backstage with Tiffany. She says she can contribute in so many ways. Tiffany says she is happy to have her when Chris Jericho comes in. Tiffany asks him what he's doing there. He says he's looking to improve his team. He says he's here to scout the talent and see if anyone is worthy of being on his team. Tiffany says no, he can't come in and cherry pick talent for Smackdown. So he can stay and watch the show or he can leave - his choice. He stomps off.

William Regal is backstage complaining that Tatsu is getting a title match before he will. Then Jericho comes up and they start talking about their suits. Jericho complains about Tiffany and Regal says she only thinks she's calling the shots. Jericho says he'd love to have Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson instead of Cryme Tyme. Tiffany walks up and scolds Jericho and say he's no longer welcome on ECW. Jericho says as one-half of the Unified Tag Team Champions, he can go anywhere. She says good point, so tonight, Jericho will face ECW Champion Christian.

Match #2 - Sheamus (Dublin, Ireland) vs. J.T. Quinn (230 pounds)

Oh boy, haven't seen a good squash in awhile.

Crowd with a "get a tan" chant early. Sheamus is destroying him until Shelton Benjamin comes in and attacks him. Benjamin ducks a clothesline and hits the first German suplex I can recall seeing on WWE TV in a long time.

Winner via disqualification: Sheamus

ECW then promotes a pay-per-view it has no presence on.

Paul Burchill makes his way to the ring for a promo following his big win over The Hurricane last week. He demands that Gregory Helms comes to the ring, unmasks and admits Burchill is the better man.

The Hurricane comes out hanging his head. Burchill asks for the mask and he takes it off but looks up and it's not Helms. Burchill dispatches of the faux Hurricane and then Hurricane's music hits again and he comes from behind and starts beating Burchill with a hurri-Singapore cane. The Burchills retreat.

Match #3 - Chris Jericho (Winnipeg, Manitoba) vs. Christian (Toronto, Ontario)

Collar-and-elbow tie-up to start and Jericho bails to the outside. Jericho gains the upper-hand. Jericho goes for the Lionsault but Christian counters and sends Jericho to the outside and hits a running dropkick through the ropes to send Jericho crashing.

Christian in control but Jericho turns it around and sends Christian crashing to the floor with a back-body drop. Jericho follows up and drop Christian on the guard rail. Back in the ring, Jericho delivers a kick to the gut of a downed Christian and a knee and a punch. Jericho then steals Christian's stand on the guy's back while pulling the top rope bit (there's got to be a shorter name for that).

Jericho with a clothesline and he goes for the Lionsault again but Christian rolls out of the way. Christian fires up the crowd and goes to work, hitting a running forearm, a flying European uppercut and then he goes for the Killswitch, but Jericho counters but ends up going into the ropes when Christian does the standing on the back while pulling the top rope bit. Christian comes off the top but gets caught in a Walls of Jericho attempt but Christian counters into a small package to no avail.

Christian hits a reverse DDT for a near fall. He goes for the Killswitch but Jericho counters into a Walls attempt. Instead, Jericho slingshots him into the buckle. Christian goes for the flying sunset flip but Jericho rolls through and locks in the Walls. Christian battles and finally makes it to the ropes. Jericho goes for a rope straddle but Christian moves. Jericho rebounds right into the Killswitch.

Winner via pinfall: Christian

And just announced: Christian will defend the ECW Championship next week against Yoshi Tatsu.
