It's a sight we're unlikely to see on Sunday, where blood is no longer allowed in the PG-friendly WWE. Here, a bloody Triple H celebrates after his Hell in a Cell victory (with Shawn Michaels) over the McMahons & Big Show at the WWE Unforgiven PPV in Toronto in September 2006. Well kiddies, WWE has decided to let what was once its most feared and most
awesome match become a triple main event this weekend.
Yep, Hell in a Cell now has its very own pay-per-view, which means that around
this time every year we'll get a visit from the awe-inspiring structure. For
the fan who wants to see the intimidating chamber of pipe and chain, it's a
good thing; for us who like to see it pulled out on occasion, well... yeah.
Nevertheless, it's worth noting that we're now just over a decade into the
life of Satan's Structure, and with it have come some highlights and... well...
lowlights. Let's take a look back at the history now, with a few factoids from
the Cell.
Including the three matches we'll see Sunday, 19 Cell matches have taken
place; it's 20 if you count the Kennel in a Cell debacle.
This will be The Undertaker's tenth Cell match. So far, he's 4-4-1.
Triple H has been in seven Cell matches, going 5-2. The five wins are the
most by any wrestler.
Trips holds the record for most consecutive wins as well (three).
Despite these numbers, Trips and 'Taker have never fought one another in
the Cell.
John Cena vs. Randy Orton will be the first Cell match not to include 'Taker
or Triple H since Mankind vs. Kane at Raw (August 24, 1998).
Orton also joins an elite group of wrestlers who have competed in multiple
Cell matches. Aside from 'Taker and Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley
are the only other two wrestlers to compete in multiple Cell bouts.
An equal number of TNA (Mick Foley), Ring of Honor (CM Punk), WCW (Kevin
Nash) and UFC (Brock Lesnar) world champions have competed in the Cell.
The only wrestlers to compete in the Cell and never hold the WWE or World
Title, up until this year, are Rikishi, Shane McMahon and The Big Boss Man.
The only "big four" PPV not to host a Cell match is the Royal Rumble.
2001 is the only year that hasn't had a Cell match since the bout's inception.
Two Hell in a Cells took place on Raw. Both involved Mankind and Kane.
Only two Canadians have been in the Cell -- Chris Jericho and Edge. Both
lost their fights.
Only one Cell match has taken place in Canada -- DX vs. The McMahons and
Big Show at Unforgiven 2006.
