Fans really rock, eh?
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun
With WWE's biggest stars invading Canada this weekend -- for a Supershow in Ottawa tonight, the Breaking Point pay-per-view in Montreal tomorrow, RAW in Toronto Monday and Smackdown!/ECW in Hamilton Tuesday -- you can bet we'll take care of our own.
The biggest cheers are usually reserved for the Canadian stars, even a guy like Chris Jericho, who tries so hard to make everyone hate him.
"If you're from Wisconsin and you're working in California, nobody cares," the affable Jericho once told me. "But if you're working in Canada, anywhere from Moncton to Vancouver, they say, 'Hey, you're Canadian.' It's Chris Jericho the Canadian, not Chris Jericho from Winnipeg. That's the thing that's really cool about Canadian fans."
Yep, Canadian wrestling fans are really cool. Maybe the best in the world. We know it and you can bet your back bacon WWE knows it. Maybe that's why there are rumblings that Wrestlemania will be held in Toronto in 2012.
So welcome to Canada, eh?
AROUND THE RING
The Price is RAW? All that was missing was a pummelling of Adam Sandler as 85-year-old Bob Barker hosted RAW on Monday. What, no Mae Young behind door No. 2? Diva goddess and Toronto gal Trish Stratus is hosting Monday's RAW. The wounded Batista will also be at the show to make a "career-altering announcement." ... The Dec. 13 pay-per-view, formerly known as Armageddon, will apparently now be called TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs ... Lillian Garcia says the Sept. 21 RAW in Little Rock, Ark., will be her last show. She's a sweetheart and will be missed ... David Hart Smith told England's The Sun he was disappointed The Hart Dynasty was left off Summer Slam. He makes a valid point. They're too talented to ignore.
