ECW: Regal guns for another title shot
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Syfy: William Regal is not happy after being blindsided and losing his ECW Championship match in a SummerSlam-record eight seconds Sunday. By the decree of general manager Tiffany, Regal will earn another title opportunity if he beats Christian in a non-title affair tonight. Should be a good one!

And we are LIVE! from Phoenix, Ariz. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

William Regal makes his way to the ring with Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson.

This is certainly one of the most interesting trios in wrestling history.

Regal says he shocked the entire world by uniting Kozlov and Jackson when everyone else thought they were going to rumble. Regal says the countdown clock on Christian's ECW Champion reign is nearing zero and it's time for a new champion. Then Christian's music hits and the champion makes his way onto the stage.

Christian says the only thing that is going to reach zero is the amount of people watching the show if Regal keeps talking. Christian says he already beat Regal in a SummerSlam-record eight seconds for the ECW Championship. Christian rubs that in his face. Regal says either Christian gives him the rematch he rightfully deserves or they will make him regret the day he ever became ECW Champion.

They Christian asks if he can call Regal "Bill." Regal doesn't like this. Crowd starts chanting "Bill." Regal says Bill is a name for commoners. Christian says, "Whatever, Bill." Christian says he's beaten Regal and wants to move onto new challengers that he hasn't beaten in eight seconds.

This brings out ECW General Manager Tiffany. This should be good.

She says enough talking, it's time for action! She acknowledges that Christian did take advantage of Regal but Regal has to earn it. Tonight, Regal will face Christian. If Regal wins, he gets his shot, if he doesn't, he doesn't.

They highlight the "storied rivalry" between Sheamus and Goldust WITH A VIDEO PACKAGE. Goodness. It will continue NEXT!

Match #1 - Sheamus (Dublin, Ireland) vs. Goldust (Hollywood, Calif.)

Sheamus works a Level 2 Randy Orton Chinlock in the early-going. He drops several big elbows in a row. Sheamus locks in a stretch with the knee in the back. Goldust gets out and hits an inverted atomic drop and a clothesline. He follows up with his drop-down uppercut and a powerslam. Goldust hits a flatliner for two and Sheamus rolls out of the ring.

Goldust goes to follow up but is dragged outside the ring. Sheamus gets on top of him and starts punching. Goldust reverses. Now they are brawling outside the ring. The referee is counting. Goldust throws Sheamus into the ring steps and the referee calls for the bell.

This match is a double countout

Shelton Benjamin is backstage with the Bella Twins doing a Louis Armstrong impression. Zack Ryder comes in and says enough. Ryder tells Shelton to sing some Lady Gaga. Benjamin says he's about to smack Ryder. It's about to get physical when Tiffany saves the day. She tells Ryder to get ready because he has a tag team match against Tyler Reks and Yoshi Tatsu. And his partner will be Shelton Benjamin.

This Thursday on WWE Superstars, it'll be The Hurricane against Paul Burchill.

We now go to the back with Courtney Taylor and she welcomes in Paul Burchill and Katie Lea. He asks her if she is going to dress up as Wonder Woman like her predecessor. He says he might have underestimated The Hurricane last week, but this week it's a different story.

Match #2 - Shelton Benjamin (Orangeburg, S.C.) & Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.) vs. Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan) & Tyler Reks (Laguna Beach, Calif.)

Maybe being teamed with Yoshi Tatsu and in a match against Zack Ryder can make me care about Tyler Reks.

Benjamin goes for a tag but Ryder was adjusting his kneepad. Reks takes advantage for a brief moment before Benjamin hits a Samoan Drop. Ryder blind tags himself into the match and goes to work on Reks. They hit a double crossbody on each other and Ryder tags Benjamin. Tatsu gets in after a facebuster and he is running wild and just plasters Benjamin with a kick.

Tatsu goes to the top but Shelton pulls him down. Ryder yells at Benjamin to "get him!" Benjamin doesn't like this and pulls Ryder into the ring. It counts as a tag, apparently. Ryder pushes Tatsu into Benjamin, sending him crashing to the outside. He then lines Tatsu up but Tatsu just turns around and hits the high kick and that's all she wrote.

Winners via pinfall: Yoshi Tatsu & Tyler Reks

Probably one of the better and more fun short tag matches you'll see.

Benjamin gets back in the ring and is not happy. He stares Ryder down briefly and hits Paydirt and walks away.

Match #3 - William Regal (Blackpool, England) vs. Christian (Toronto, Ontario)

A lot of mat wrestling early. Snapmare takeover and a kick to the back get Regal to go to the outside. He hits a baseball slide and then goes to springboard outside but thinks better of it when Kozlov and Jackson show up in front of Regal. The referee admonishes them but doesn't send them to the back.

We're back and Regal is working on Christian's shoulder. He gets out but runs right into an exploder suplex. Regal goes for the running knee but Christian moves and hits the springboard sunset flip for two. Regal again goes to the outside. Christian follows but ends up getting flipped onto the floor. The referee starts counting. Christian makes it back in at the count of 9.5. Regal goes right back to work.

Regal hits Christian with several punches and a few European uppercuts for two. He throws Christian into the corner but eats a back elbow and a kick. But Regal catches Christian with another European uppercut. He lands two more. He goes for a backdrop but Christian kicks him and tries a backslide for two.

Regal lists Christian onto the top rope but Christian fights him off and hits a flying crossbody for two.

Christian goes to work, hitting some strikes and a backbody drop. He follows that up with an elbow and two missile dropkicks for a nearfall. Christian rams Regal into the turnbuckle and lands a tornado DDT. Christian is slow to cover and only gets two.

Christian backdrops Regal to the outside and they start fighting. Christian throws Regal back in the ring and slaps Kozlov hard. Christian goes back into the ring and Jackson hops onto the apron to distract the referee. Christian goes for the Killswitch but Regal pushes Christian in the direction of Kozlov, who hits a headbutt to the gut. Regal hits the doubled-over Christian with the running knee and that'll do it.

Winner via pinfall: William Regal

Regal is now once again the No. 1 contender for the ECW Championship. Kozlov and Jackson raises the arms of an extremely exhausted Regal.
