Cheers to jeers for The Miz
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun
For a few minutes, Mike Mizanin was a hero.
Wearing a mask and introduced as The Calgary Kid in a "Contract on a Pole" match, he handily defeated Eugene, earning himself a RAW deal.
Once he took off the mask, the Calgary fans erupted in a tone that Mizanin, who wrestles as The Miz, is more accustomed to hearing.
"That might have been the first time I've been cheered in WWE," said The Miz. "I get introduced, they cheer me ... I use a new finisher, they cheer me ... I win a contract, they cheer me ... I take off my mask and I've never been booed so loud. It just goes to show how fast fans can turn on you."
The Miz desperately wants to wrestle on tomorrow night's star-studded SummerSlam pay-per-view, but he's not scheduled for a match.
"I'm really a bit aggravated at (RAW guest host) Jeremy Piven. He banned me from SummerFest or SummerSlam as every other wrestling fan in the WWE Universe calls it. But I'm unpredictable. I like to shock the world. Hopefully I'll do that at SummerSlam."
Mizanin has been The Miz since before his WWE days. He took it on as an alter ego on The Real World reality TV show nine years ago.
"I was an outcast on the show, nobody really liked me," he said. "So I created this character, The Miz, that would call everybody out. I could then blame it on my alter ego."
What's The Miz really like?
"My friends say there's Mike and then there's The Miz. Mike's fun, he's a great guy. But you don't want to be around The Miz."
So far so good. He's The Miz ... and he's awesome. Just ask him.
