ECW: Regal stretches Dreamer, sets eyes on Christian
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Syfy: After defeating Tommy Dreamer in an Extreme Rules match to retain his title last week, ECW Champion Christian is presented with a new contender this week: William Regal. In tonight's main event, Regal goes one-on-one with the former champion Dreamer. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Edmonton, Alberta. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Match #1 - Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.) vs. Shelton Benjamin (Orangeburg, S.C.)

They play up the fact that Ryder doesn't have respect for "veterans" like Benjamin.

Ryder gets a two-count after drilling Benjamin in the face with a big boot. He locks in a headlock but Benjamin gets out and reverses a suplex attempt into a neckbreaker.

Benjamin hits a Stinger Splash but tries another and gets hit with an elbow. Ryder hits a leaping leg lariat for two and goes for the Zack Attack but Benjamin counters with a slingshot that Ryder counters. Ryder leaps from the middle turnbuckle but Benjamin power bombs him into the corner and then hits Paydirt.

Winner via pinfall: Shelton Benjamin

Gregory Helms is backstage with Paul Burchill. He says he refuses to be interviewed by a laughingstock, so he should go put his underoos back on and let the grown up speak. Helms says he's just doing his job. Burchill says he's not an idiot and that Helms is The Hurricane. Helms says as a reporter, sometimes he has to call it how he sees it. Then Burchill sucker punches him and delivers a knee to the gut.

Match #2 - Kozlov (Moscow, Russia) vs. Kevin Brooks (170 pounds)

Oh my, 170 pounds.

Brooks pretty much keeps distance for about five seconds and then the downfall begins. A "you can't wrestle" chant breaks out and is rather loud.

Kozlov squash, 70 seconds.

Winner via pinfall: Kozlov

Of course, Ezekiel Jackson makes his way to the ring, presumably to beat up this poor jobber. As predicted, Jackson hits his finish. Kozlov, not to be outdone, hits his and walks away. The crowd chants "one more time!" Sadly, they didn't just take turns hitting their finish on this guy for the rest of the show.

Match #3 - Paul Burchill (Chelsea, England) vs. Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan)

A "Yoshi" chant breaks out immediately. They do some stuff but it's not long before Katie Lea rips Tatsu with her belt and that's it.

Winner via disqualification: Yoshi Tatsu

Burchill almost immediately attacks Tatsu from behind. He puts Tatsu in the corner and stomps a mudhole in him. The referee is able to hold him off until The Hurricane's music hits. He shows up behind Burchill and hits a flying crossbody. He follows that up with a Thesz press and pucnhes. Burchill gets up and sells for Hurricane's pose and retreats. Hurricane helps Tatsu to his feet and they celebrate.

Match #4 - Tyler Reks (Laguna Beach, Calif.) vs. Tom James (220 pounds)

Well, this is an especially jobberiffic edition of ECW this week. Reks squash.

Winner via pinfall: Tyler Reks

It's now time for The Abraham Washington Show with our host Abraham Washington.

He brings out his guest, the ECW Champion Christian. They talk, crack bad jokes. Standard Washington Show affair.

Business picks up when Washington brings out the new No. 1 contender for Christian's title William Regal.

Regal says the English are the most brutal race in history. And if you don't believe it, just watch what he's going to do to Tommy Dreamer.

Match #5 - William Regal (Blackpool, England) vs. Tommy Dreamer (Yonkers, N.Y.)

Dreamer quickly gains the edge. He tries to suplex Regal outside the ring but Regal runs him into the post. Regal puts Dreamer's injured elbow against the post and kicks it. Dreamer is hurting. Dreamer makes a comeback and starts working on Regal's shoulder but ends up running into a knee in the corner.

Regal locks Dreamer in an armlock but he escapes. They get into a slugfest in the centre of the ring. Dreamer goes for the DDT but is countered. He hits the Sky High for two. Dreamer puts Regal in the tree of woe and hits the running dropkick. A powerslam gets two with Regal's foot on the rope. Regal slides to the apron and wrings Dreamer's bad arm on the rope. He gets back into the ring and nails the running kneelift for the pin.

Winner via pinfall: William Regal

After the match, Regal is done, locking in the REGAL STRETCH on Dreamer. Christian comes out and Regal backs away.
