ECW: Ryder pushes Christian to the brink
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Syfy: The Era of Captain Charisma begins again as Christian defeated Tommy Dreamer to win the ECW Championship on Sunday at Night of Champions. Tonight, he faces up-and-comer Zack Ryder. Will he have his hands full? YOU KNOW IT! Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Baltimore, Md. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Match #1 - Tyler Reks (Laguna Beach, Calif.) vs. Paul Burchill (Chelsea, England)

This is a return match from last week where Burchill attacked Reks following their match.

Burchill hits the first big move of the match with a knee drop from the middle rope. Burchill controls the match but Reks gets going, sending Burchill to the outside then hitting a springboard crossbody. Burchill goes back inside and Reks follows up with a crossbody from the top rope.

Burchill sends Reks to the apron and tries to run him into the post, but Reks avoids it, rings Burchill's neck on the top rope and hits a springboard missile dropkick for the fall.

Winner via pinfall: Tyler Reks

Match #2 - Kozlov (Moscow, Russia) vs. Bill Baine (210 pounds)

Oh boy.

Kozlov squash (82 seconds)

Winner via pinfall: Kozlov

Ezekiel Jackson makes his way to the ring after the pin. If you recall, Kozlov came out after Jackson's match last week and destroyed the man Jackson beat. This time around, Jackson does the same, hitting his finish.

Tiffany is backstage with Tommy Dreamer. They talk and shake hands. Dreamer leaves and Shelton Benjamin comes in and wants to follow up on an e-mail he sent about being on The Abraham Washington Show. She says Washington thought he wasn't entertaining enough. Then Gregory Helms gets in line. Benjamin wonders if you have to dress up as a superhero to get on (Helms says he's just a reporter). Shelton says if you want entertaining, he'll give you entertaining. This cannot possibly end well.

Match #3 - Sheamus (Dublin, Ireland) vs. Goldust (Hollywood, Calif.)

This one is all Sheamus early, as he uses his power to hurt the Bizarre One.

Sheamus makes a mistake and Goldust mounts him in the corner and starts landing punches but Sheamus fights him off. Goldust hits the drop-down uppercut and a powerslam for two. Goldust lines him up but Sheamus hits him with a forearm and a pump kick. He follows that up with a Rock Bottom backbreaker for the fall.

Winner via pinfall: Sheamus

Christian comes out to cut a promo. He says he forgot how much the title meant to him. Christian says he has something to say about Tommy Dreamer. But before he can get into anything, Dreamer makes his way to the ring.

Dreamer congratulates him on the title win. He says he just spoke to Tiffany and he'll be getting his rematch next week. And it'll be under Extreme Rules. Then Zack Ryder's music hits. He says enough about next week because he's going to beat Christian this week. Woo woo woo. You know it.

Match #4 - Christian (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.)

We're back and already underway. Ryder quickly discards the Woo Woo Woo headband.

Even match throughout the early going. Christian hits a sunset flip for two and Ryder ducks out of the ring. He hops to the apron and Christian charges but Ryder sticks a should into his gut. Ryder throws Christian outside but misses a kick. Christian pulls him face-first onto the apron and then goes back inside to hit a running dropkick. He goes to the second rope and hits a flying forearm to the outside.

We're back and Ryder is in control and Christian is being counted out of the ring. Christian lunges back in at nine only to eat some leather. Ryder hits a knee to the stomach for two. Ryder locks in body scissors but Christian reverses and rolls through for a near fall.

Christian goes to the top but Ryder cuts him off and hits a superplex. Ryder is slow to the cover and only gets two. Ryder puts Christian on the top turnbuckle for another superplex but Christian fights out, shoves Ryder off and hits a flying crossbody for two.

Christian reverses Ryder and hits a reverse DDT. He then goes to the second rope and hits a dropkick then goes up one more for a missile dropkick. Ryder goes to the top and ends up in the electric chair. Ryder drops him on the top rope and hits a flying leg lariat for two.

Ryder lines Christian up in the corner but eats a forearm. Christian hits a tornado DDT for two. Christian charges at Ryder in the corner but Ryder sidesteps him and shoves him into the post. He goes for the Zack Attack but Christian counters. Ryder charges at Christian in the corner but Christian moves and hits his in-rope kick. Christian follows up with a flying European uppercut. Ryder works to his feet but ends up in the Killswitch and that's all she wrote.

Winner via pinfall: Christian

Very good, competitive match. One that could potentially make Ryder for the future. He looked good here. They had a good match.
