Lesnar's antics good for MMA
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

If a couple of middle fingers from Brock Lesnar is what it takes to lift mixed martial arts to the next level, bring it on.

After beating up on Frank Mir a couple of weeks back at UFC 100, Lesnar was vilified for flipping off the crowd and saying he was going to have a cold beer, just not the one that carried a major sponsor’s name.

Of course, if Lesnar had done the same thing while he was a WWE star, he’d have been through the roof. And he wouldn’t necessarily have been a heel.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin flipped off the fans for years and was, without much argument, wrestling’s top draw for a decade.

Now what MMA needs is for someone to call out Lesnar, to threaten to rip out his tongue ... and UFC boss Dana White will add another wheelbarrow of cash to his vault.

There’s nothing wrong with a little showmanship and pizzazz. MMA is real. A little emotion, even if it’s a bit misguided, is a good thing.

HART ATTACK

Geez, Ric Flair is at it again. In an interview on Live Audio Wrestling, Naitch took some more shots at Canadian icon Bret "The Hitman" Hart. “In my world, he’s a nobody,” Flair said. “He’s a piss-ant in the history of wrestling. I’m offended when people even begin to compare my career (to his).”

AROUND THE RING

WWE’s Night of Champions pay-per-view Sunday night, at 8 p.m., is headlined by Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Triple H ... Look for Shawn Michaels to return for next month’s Summer Slam pay-per-view ... Eugene (Nick Dinsmore) is back with WWE.

DROPKICK QUESTION

Why is it that if a wrestler doesn’t connect with a dropkick, he ends up in so much pain? If he connects, he bounces right up and continues the attack. And someone please tell me, how did Superstar Bill Dundee become such a big star?
