Impact: Foley lashes out against the Mafia
By CHRIS & BRYAN SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
Following the debacle known as Victory Road, the Main Event Mafia is wielding nearly all the power in TNA. Tonight on Impact, all of the Mafia members will see action, as Samoa Joe guns for the X Division title, Kurt Angle aims to take Mick Foley's office keys and the new champs of the Mafia defend their titles. Plus a Mafia sponsored Knockouts battle royal will take place to determine who the group's new babe will be.
The show began with a recap of the Main Event Mafia's success at Victory Road. Ugh, what a pay-per-view.
The TNA Impact opener aired, followed by the usual introduction from Mike Tenay and Don West.
Taz entered the Impact Zone and grabbed the mic. Taz talked about his career and said that he turned on TNA recently and saw a second-coming of himself in Samoa Joe. He said however, that Joe was different from him in the sense that he showed remorse to his opponents. Taz said he talked to Joe and their student/teacher relationship began. He talked about how they both owed a lot to Kurt Angle and that they were going to add more gold to the Mafia tonight, when Joe beats Homicide for the TNA X Division Championship. Taz told Homicide to beat Joe if he could and to survive if he let him. Joe entered the Impact Zone and the match was on...
Match One - TNA X Division Championship Match - Samoa Joe w/ Taz vs. Homicide (C)
Homicide got in some offense, but Samoa Joe showed off Taz's teachings, hitting a suplex and paying homage to his mentor. Joe had the match well at hand, until he struck referee Jamie Tucker. While the referee was down, Joe countered a Gringo Cutter into a rear naked choke, but Tucker called for the bell and the DQ.
Winner Via Disqualification and STILL TNA X Division Champion - Homicide
After the match, Samoa Joe continued his attack on Homicide, as Taz shouted instructions. Hernandez made his return to a good ovation and got into a stare down with Joe, as Taz took him and left the ring. Joe/Hernandez could be a good feud.
Jeremy Borash was shown with Mick Foley. Foley said that he talked to TNA Management in Nashville and that he isn't sure what is going on with Kurt Angle and the Main Event Mafia.
The Main Event Mafia was shown leaving their locker room and heading into the Impact Zone.
The Main Event Mafia entered the Impact Zone, with Kurt Angle taking the mic. Angle talked about going to the front office with a list of demands that would need to be met to keep the Mafia on the show. Angle announced to the locker room not to worry, because nobody was going to get fired. He put over the Mafia as fighting champions and said that Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner and Booker T would be defending their belts on Impact. Angle then got on Mick Foley and said that the front office didn't even know what Foley did. This brought Foley to the ring, where he admitted that he tapped out at Victory Road and that the only thing that kept him from hanging his head in shame and going into hiding was the fact that Angle went to the front office and tried to take over. Foley said that AJ Styles and Beer Money Inc. dropped the ball at Victory Road, but he dropped it the most. Angle went off on Foley and said that he has been working the front office and that he and Samoa Joe prevented that from continuing at Slammiversary. Angle told Foley that he could kick him to the streets if he wanted to, but there was something else he was looking for. Angle pulled out a giant key chain with keys and said that they were the keys to Foley's office. Angle said that the main event of Impact would be between he and Foley in a "Keys on a Pole" match. Angle taunted Foley for his ankle injury, as the Mafia left laughing. Ugh, a pole match? Come on.
An interview between Lauren and The British Invasion from earlier in the day was shown. They talked about being involved in a Ten Man Tag Team match later on against the TNA Originals.
Mike Tenay and Don West then ran down the rest of the card for Impact.
Match Two - TNA Legends Championship Match - Amazing Red vs. Kevin Nash w/ Jenna Morasca (C)
Squash city. Jacknife Powerbomb gives "Big Sexy" the win. Don West was absolutely hysterical on commentary.
Winner Via Pinfall and STILL TNA Legends Champion - Kevin Nash
Lauren spoke to Hernandez, who said that he had Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley's backs and that he was coming for the TNA Heavyweight Championship. Homicide stepped in and asked Hernandez what he was doing out there before. Hernandez said he came to save Homicide and the two began arguing in Spanish as Homicide told Lauren to stay out of it. Possible LAX feud?
Jeremy Borash talked with Mick Foley, who said that Kurt Angle could have everything in his office, except a caricature of him and JB. Sally Boy and Rocco walked in and told Foley they were there for him and asked what they could do. Foley gave them tape and told them to get rid of the MEM logos on their shirts like he asked them to do six weeks ago. They obliged and left.
Booker T and Scott Steiner were shown watching a monitor. Steiner and Booker agreed that they found their opponents for later on.
Lauren caught up with Traci Brooks, who is making her return to TNA. Brooks talked about being in Hollywood and working on some big projects. Brooks said she was happy to be back and said that she asked Mick Foley if she could resume her position as Knockout Law in the Mafia battle royal. She said Foley agreed and she would be out there later on to prevent any Mafia shenanigans. Nice to see Brooks on Impact.
Match Three - TNA Tag Team Championship Match - Booker T and Scott Steiner w/ Sharmell (C) vs. Rocco and Sally Boy
Scott Steiner told David Penzer to announcer their opponents, which he did. Mick Foley's security put up a fight towards the end and had the match won, until Sharmell pulled referee Andrew Thomas from the ring. This allowed Booker and Steiner to double up on finishes and get the pin to retain their belts.
Winners Via Pinfall and STILL TNA Tag Team Champions - Booker T and Scott Steiner
Eric Young walked in on Jeremy Borash and Mick Foley backstage. Young talked about how he has been unprofessional lately and he wants to make up for it. Foley told him he could join the TNA Originals team in the Ten Man Tag Team match later on. Young thanked Foley and gave him a big hug.
TNA Knockouts were shown headed to the ring.
A recap was shown of what happened at Victory Road between The Beautiful People, Taraand referee Mark "Slick" Johnson.
Lauren talked to Tara, who was holding her spider and said that she was going to prove that she is the best. She mentioned that Mark "Slick" Johnson was going to be the outside referee for the battle royal and she challenged him to bring it.
Match Four - $50,000 Knockouts Battle Royal for a spot in the Main Event Mafia - Daffney vs. Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love vs. Madison Rayne vs. Velvet Sky vs. ODB w/ Cody Deaner vs. Sojo Bolt vs. Alissa Flash vs. Awesome Kong vs. Sarita vs. Tara - Guest In-Ring Referee - Traci Brooks
When Madison Rayne was eliminated, Mark "Slick" Johnson ran to her aide and called for the trainers to come and check on her. ODB got tossed out of the ring, but Cody Deaner caught her and put her back in. This caused Johnson to eject him from ringside. Kevin Nash came out and joined Mike Tenay and Don West on commentary during the match. The battle royal came down to Awesome Kong and Tara and while both of them were fighting by the ropes, Traci Brooks came over and pushed them to the floor, declaring herself the winner.
Winner and NEW member of the Main Event Mafia - Traci Brooks
After the match, Kevin Nash hit the ring with the $50,000 check and celebrated with Traci Brooks. Very good move here. As they left, Tara argued with Mark "Slick" Johnson and laid him out with a low blow.
Lauren was shown with The Beautiful People backstage, who were complaining about Traci Brooks winning the battle royal. They also made fun of ODB, which brought Cody Deaner in. Deaner was all fired up, until they started hitting on him. Velvet Sky then hit him with a low blow and the beat down began, until ODB ran them off. This is another good feud. Kudos to TNA on this. Hopefully Hard Justice can redeem them from Victory Road.
Mike Tenay and Don West ran down the rest of the card for Impact. Tenay also announced that at Hard Justice the main event is going to be a three-way match for the TNA Heavyweight Championship, where Kurt Angle will defend against Sting and either AJ Styles or Matt Morgan. This will be Sting's last title shot. As for the Styles/Morgan situation, their entry will be determined on who wins a Best Two out of Three series over the next two to three weeks on Impact.
Lauren spoke to AJ Styles and his team of Originals. Styles said that they dropped the ball at Victory Road, but they were ready to take TNA back.
Match Five - Ten Man Tag Team Match - The British Invasion (Brutus Magnus, Doug Williams and Rob Terry), Sheik Abdul Bashir and Kiyoshi vs. AJ Styles, Beer Money Inc. (James Storm and Robert Roode), Daniels and Eric Young
This match eventually turned into an all-out brawl. As the rest of the competitors fought to the outside, Eric Young stayed in the ring with AJ Styles and Doug Williams. Young tossed Williams into the Styles Clash and as Styles was ready to hit it, Young turned him around and planted him with a piledriver. Williams leaned over and made the cover to get the win.
Winners Via Pinfall - The British Invasion (Brutus Magnus, Doug Williams and Rob Terry), Sheik Abdul Bashir and Kiyoshi
After the match, Eric Young celebrated with The British Invasion, Sheik Abdul Bashir and Kiyoshi.
Backstage, Mick Foley was shown watching a monitor and throwing a fit.
Jeremy Borash ran to interview Eric Young and his group of buddies. As Young was talking, Mick Foley came in and attacked him. Security ran in to keep them separated.
Match Six - Office Keys on a Pole Match - Kurt Angle vs. Mick Foley
Back and forth match. Eventually, Mick Foley got the Mandible Claw locked in on Kurt Angle, forcing him to pass out. As Foley went to climb the pole, the Main Event Mafia came out and attacked him, causing what Mike Tenay said was a disqualification on Kurt Angle, although their wasn't an announcement of that decision.
Winner Via Disqualification and STILL Holder of the Keys to the Office - Mick Foley
After the bell rang, the beating continued. Kurt Angle took the mic and told Mick Foley that his next card was going to be his last card. Bobby Lashley returned to the Impact Zone and hit the ring. He gave Angle a big hug and was instructed to take out Foley. Just as he was about to do so, he turned around and whacked Angle. Lashley then cleaned house on the Mafia and stood tall, as Angle and his group retreated, rounding out another episode of Impact.
