ECW: Bad night for Christian
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Syfy: After defeating Kozlov to become the No. 1 contender last week, Christian seemingly has a much easier task on his plate this week: a singles match with Shelton Benjamin. And in tonight's main event, Kozlov takes on ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Miami, Fla. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Match #1 - Christian (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Shelton Benjamin (Orangeburg, S.C.)

In like his seventh year in WWE, Mathews calls Benjamin a "blue chipper." If he were a blue chipper anymore he would've been champion three years ago and not be on ECW now.

Things are barely underway when Kozlov comes to the ring. Benjamin kicks Christian off the top rope and to the floor. Kozlov comes by and stands over Christian then keeps walking.

We're back and Kozlov is on commentary. This should be golden. Benjamin works Christian over for a bit but Christian starts to fire up. A few punches send Benjamin reeling. Christian ducks a back-heel kick and drop-toe holds Benjamin into the second rope and then steps on him and pulls up the top rope. A tornado DDT nets a two count for Christian.

Christian goes to the top but Benjamin leaps straight to the top rope and brings Christian down on his bad shoulder. Benjamin goes for the Stinger Splash but misses. Christian goes for the Killswitch, but Benjamin reverses and throws Christian shoulder-first into the ring post. He hits the reeling Christian with Paydirt for the fall.

Winner via pinfall: Shelton Benjamin

Ezekiel Jackson is backstage with Gregory Helms. Jackson says he was happy to come to ECW and in his time off, he got into the best shape of his life. Helms asks him about The Brian Kendrick and Jackson says Kendrick needed him. He says he's going to the top.

Match #2 - Paul Burchill (Chelsea, England) vs. Yoshi Tatsu (Tokyo, Japan)

A quick "Yoshi!" chant breaks out but Burchill takes quick control. Katie Lea adds in a slap for good measure with the referee's back turned. Burchill grabs a headlock but Tatsu gets out and starts going to town with some kicks. Tatsu goes to springboard off the top rope from the apron but slips and falls to the mat. They recover quickly with Burchill hitting a back suplex. He goes for the cover but Tatsu is outside the ropes. Burchill takes umbrage with the referee and then walks right into the high kick.

Winner via pinfall: Yoshi Tatsu

Tiffany is backstage when Tyler Reks comes in. He says he's looking to make his ECW in-ring debut, maybe next week. She says that can be arranged.

Match #3 - Goldust (Hollywood, Calif.) vs. Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.)

Oh, you know it!

Striker tells us Goldust has held 18 major titles, including, get this, "nine Hardcore titles." LOL.

They go back-and-forth for the opening bit. Goldust hits an inverted atomic drop and a clothesline. He goes to the top and hits a bionic elbow for two. Goldust goes for the Curtain Call but Ryder slips away to the corner. Goldust charges in but Ryder sidesteps him and hits the Zack Attack on the rebound.

Winner via pinfall: Zack Ryder

Mathews and Striker detail The Hurricane's latest exploit.

Match #4 - Sheamus (Dublin, Ireland) vs. Roman Cornell (Miami, Fla.)

Sheamus squash. Wins with the Rock Bottom backbreaker.

Winner via pinfall: Sheamus

The Abraham Washington Show will return next week with Tommy Dreamer and Christian.

Match #5 - Kozlov (Moscow, Russia) vs. Tommy Dreamer (Yonkers, N.Y.)

Dreamer takes the edge early sending Kozlov into the middle rope with a drop-toe hold, a dropkick to the face and a flying clothesline. That doesn't last long, though, as Kozlov gets going with a shoulderblock, a series of headbutts and a belly-to-belly suplex.

They go back-and-forth and Dreamer goes to the top but Kozlov crotches him. Dreamer recovers and jumps off but Kozlov just swats him out of the air. He then hits the Iron Curtain and that's all she wrote.

Winner via pinfall: Kozlov

Kozlov wants more after the match and goes to work on Dreamer until Christian runs out to make the save. Christian lands a few punches and goes to clothesline Kozlov but he ducks and Christian decks Dreamer. He then walks right into a big running headbutt. Kozlov celebrates and we are out.
