Impact: Sting to the rescue
By CHRIS & BRYAN SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

After months of tension, Sting has been replaced in the Main Event Mafia line-up. Last week on Impact, Kurt Angle and his posse disposed of "The Stinger" with a gang-style beating. This week, Jeff Jarrett returns to the Impact Zone and vows to restore order in his company. Will Double J be able to tame Angle's unholy alliance, or will the Olympic Gold medalist continue to run roughshod over Impact?

The show began with a recap of the Main Event Mafia's beating on Sting.

The Impact opener aired, followed by the usual welcome from Mike Tenay and Don West.

The Main Event Mafia made their way into the Impact Zone, with Kurt Angle grabbing the mic. Angle told Sting, who was at home, that what happened last week wasn't personal, it was just business. Angle then called out Mick Foley, who entered the ring accompanied by his security team. Angle told Foley that he was upset that he gave Team 3D an opportunity to earn number one contendership to the TNA Tag Team Championships, when he already promised Scott Steiner and Booker T a shot. Scott Steiner attacked and laid out Foley's security, while Foley told the Mafia to respect him. Angle went on to tell Foley that he could pick which member of the Mafia beat him up. Foley choose Angle and punched him, leading to a brawl. Jeff Jarrett came out next, as the Mafia retreated. When Jarrett got in the ring, he hit Foley with his guitar and left, as the Mafia celebrated. Before Jarrett headed to the backstage area, he took a good look at Angle. Good segment that put the Mafia over strong. Another match between Jarrett and Angle would be great as well.

During the commercial break, Mick Foley refused medical attention. Jeremy Borash stood by as Foley was shown in Jeff Jarrett's locker room. Security was in between them, as Jarrett yelled that things would never work between the two of them.

An interview between Mike Tenay and Kevin Nash was shown. Nash basically talked about how he's all about money and that by beating AJ Styles for the TNA Legends Championship, he would be able to charge kids to take a picture with the belt. Ha, ha. That's great.

Backstage, Abyss was going crazy, as Lauren stood by. Abyss was looking for Dr. Stevie, while Lauren tried to calm him. Abyss told Lauren that he never asked her to stop being a women, so she shouldn't ask him to stop being a monster. Lauren told Abyss he was a man and not a monster. Abyss shrugged her comments off and told her he'd come back to get her after he found Dr. Stevie.

Match One - Amazing Red vs. Cody Deaner w/ ODB

Amazing Red looked good here. The whole Cody Deaner angle isn't really picking up steam just yet. Maybe it will down the line, but that might be too late. Red hits the Red Eye and gets the victory here.

Winner Via Pinfall - Amazing Red

In the backstage area, Abyss was still throwing things around, as TNA security approached him with bats to subdue him.

Jeremy Borash was with Jeff Jarrett, who was getting his ring gear out. The Main Event Mafia walked in, with Kurt Angle offering Jarrett membership in the Mafia once again. Jarrett declined and told Angle that later on, the TNA Heavyweight Championship would be on the line a tag team match, as Angle would team with Samoa Joe to take on Jarrett and AJ Styles. Angle flipped, as the Mafia left Jarrett's locker room.

Lauren spoke to Jenna Morasca, who talked about her match with Sharmell at Victory Road. Sojournor Bolt came in and told Morasca that Sharmell was her girl and that she would make sure Sharmell was ready to fight at Victory Road. Interesting alliance between Bolt and Sharmell. Came out of nowhere, but interesting nonetheless.

Jeremy Borash went to talk to Kurt Angle, who was still livid about Jeff Jarrett's announcement. Angle told Jarrett that he and Samoa Joe were a unit and that they were going to be victorious later on. Booker T told Sharmell to go find Matt Morgan, leading to an argument between the two of them.

Match Two - Eric Young vs. Rhino w/ Jesse Neal

Eric Young continued to show off his arrogant attitude, taking time from the match to go outside the ring and beat up Jesse Neal. When Young got back in the ring, Rhino caught him with a spinebuster and had the match won, but the referee was distracted with Neal, allowing Young to get up and sneak in a roll up to get the pin. Good push for Young there.

Winner Via Pinfall - Eric Young

Lauren was shown walking with Sharmell backstage. They ran into Matt Morgan and Sharmell informed him that Kurt Angle was looking for him. Morgan grabbed Sharmell in celebration, thinking he was accepted into the Main Event Mafia. He then took her by the arm and rushed her back to Angle.

Jeremy Borash was in the Main Event Mafia locker room when Matt Morgan entered. Kurt Angle told Morgan he wasn't in the Main Event Mafia just yet and said that he was giving him the job of making sure that Daniels didn't interfere in the main event. Morgan told Angle that he was getting upset and that he better make the right decision soon.

Match Three - Awesome Kong and Tara w/ Riesha Saeed vs. The Beautiful People (Angelina Love and Velvet Sky) w/ Madison Rayne

The Beautiful People did a good job of double teaming Tara, but when Awesome Kong got the tag, the match took a shift. Tara and Angelina Love fought on the outside, while Kong dominated Velvet Sky inside the ring and finished her off with the Implant Buster.

Winners Via Pinfall - Awesome Kong and Tara

After the match, Tara took the tarantula out of the box and put it on Velvet Sky's stomach, as Angelina Love and Madison Rayne ran away in fear.

Backstage, Lauren stood by with Angelina Love who was freaking out about Tara's tarantula. Lauren asked her what was on her shoulder, causing Love to run away screaming as Lauren laughed, saying that what "goes around, comes around."

Beer Money Inc. entered the Impact Zone and joined Mike Tenay and Don West on commentary.

Match Four - Number One Contenders Match For A Shot At The TNA Tag Team Championships - Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) vs. Booker T and Scott Steiner w/ Sharmell

Booker T and Scott Steiner worked well here, beating on Team 3D. During the match, Kiyoshi and Sheik Abdul Bashir came out and confronted Beer Money Inc., leading to a brawl between the four competitors all the way to the back. In the ring, Team 3D hit the 3D on Booker T, but Sharmell distracted the referee. During this time, The British Invasion ran out and Brutus Magnus hit Brother Ray with his briefcase, before placing Booker T on top of him for the pin.

Winners Via Pinfall and NEW Number One Contenders to the TNA Tag Team Championships - Booker T and Scott Steiner

Up next, Jay Lethal was supposed to wrestle Jethro Holliday, but as Holliday waited in the ring, Abyss beat on Lethal backstage. After he was done there, Abyss entered the ring and took out Holliday as well. Abyss then grabbed the mic and called for Dr. Stevie. Stevie was shown backstage with Lauren. He said that he's treated Abyss for ten years and he would continue to do so. He told Abyss to come to his office for treatment, or he would do something to Lauren.

After entrances for the main event, Jeremy Borash did the in-ring introductions.

Match Five - TNA Heavyweight Championship Match - Kurt Angle (C) and Samoa Joe vs. Jeff Jarrett and AJ Styles

This was a good back and forth match. The referee got taken out during an AJ Styles springboard forearm. While the referee was down, Jeff Jarrett hit the Stroke on Kurt Angle and had the match won. Jarrett went to use his guitar, but referee, Mark "Slick" Johnson caught him in time and took it away. With Angle and Jarrett in the ring, Samoa Joe grabbed Styles and pulled him to the floor. Angle locked in the Ankle Lock and worked the injured hamstring, until Jarrett passed out and allowed his arm to drop three times, giving Angle and Joe the win.

Winners Via Knock Out - Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe - STILL TNA Heavyweight Champion - Kurt Angle

After the match, The Main Event Mafia came out to celebrate, but AJ Styles chased them off with the TNA Legends Championship belt. Samoa Joe went in and attacked Styles, leading to the rest of the Mafia joining in on the beating. Backstage, Matt Morgan was shown throwing Daniels around, hitting him with a pipe. As Nash was about to hit Styles with the TNA Legends Championship belt, the lights went out and when they came back on, Sting was in the ring with a baseball bat. Sting cleaned house and took possession of the TNA Heavyweight Championship belt. The lights went out again and when they came back on, Sting was gone, leaving the Main Event Mafia absolutely livid.

Chris and Bryan Sokol are from Long Island, NY and would like to extend their wishes for a Happy Independence Day!
