ECW: Dreamer, Swagger collide; Finlay returns
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Sci-Fi: With his successful title defense against Christian on Monday, ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer will look to continue his successful run in a nontitle match with former champion Jack Swagger. But if Swagger wins, he'll earn a shot at the silver. Also on the docket, Finlay returns from his eye injury and stirs things up. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Roanoke, Va. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Match #1 - David Hart Smith (Calgary, Alberta) vs. Christian (Toronto, Ontario)

Christian uses his speed to his advantage early, but Smith changes the tone of the match by hitting what can be called a Rock Bottom off the apron onto the floor. Except they didn't get far enough away from the apron on the drop and Christian's back hit the apron pretty hard. He seems to be OK, though.

Smith goes to work in the ring with a chinlock and the crowd really gets behind Christian, trying to fire him up. Smith hits the delayed vertical suplex for two. Christian eventually gains control and sends Smith to the outside and hits a dive.

We're back and Smith has Christian in a chinlock. Christian fights out of it quickly. He goes to the top and hits a missile dropkick for two. He hits his kicks in the corner and hits DJ Gabriel's finisher for two. Christian for some reason decides to chase Tyson Kidd around the ring for nothing and comes back into the ring and runs into a huge clothesline for two.

Christian tries for a tornado DDT but Smith powers out. Christian tries a flying sunset flip and gets two. He goes for the Killswitch but Smith powers out and hits a running powerslam but only gets two.

Christian takes the advantage back and goes to the top rope when Natalya jumps up on the apron. With the distraction in place, Kidd knocks Christian off the top and Smith grabs him and hits a back suplex for the fall.

Winner via pinfall: David Hart Smith

The Hart Trilogy goes to attack and hit the Hart Attack, but Finlay comes flying in to make the save. Once Christian gets to his feet, though, Finlay lays him out with a vicious Shillelagh shot to the mellon.

Hurricane Helms is backstage with Finlay. He says he did that to gain retribution for his eye injury when trying to break up a fight between Christian and Tommy Dreamer a few weeks back.

Match #2 - Mark Henry (Silsbee, Texas) vs. Evan Bourne (St. Louis, MO)

In a shocking development, Henry uses his power early. Bourne ducks a running splash but eats a big boot on the way back in. Henry goes to work on the injured ribs of Bourne. He goes to hit a sit-down splash but Bourne moves out of the way. Bourne struggles to his feet and starts kicking Henry. He goes off the ropes and runs at Henry but Henry just squashes him like a bug.

Henry goes to hit the World's Strongest Splash but Bourne again rolls out of the way. He again starts kicking Henry and hits a dropkick to Henry, who was on his knees, and gets two. He can barely cover him. Bourne goes back at it and tries to hit a cruicifix roll-up but Henry shrugs him onto his shoulders then into his arms for the World's Strongest Slam and that's all she wrote.

Winner via pinfall: Mark Henry

After the match, Henry makes Bourne pay again with another World's Strongest Slam. In the replay of the first one, Tony Atlas appears to be dancing a jig on the outside in celebration.

Hurricane Helms is backstage with Jack Swagger. He says he doesn't know what's the bigger joke: the fact that he has to earn an ECW Championship match or that Dreamer is the champion in the first place. He says he's winning tonight and then taking back his championship.

Match #3 - Jack Swagger (Perry, Okla.) vs. Tommy Dreamer (Yonkers, N.Y.)

Dreamer gets off to a hot start, a very hot start, in fact. He gets Swagger to the outside and goes to hit the cannonball roll but Swagger catches him in mid-air and powerslams him.

We're back and Swagger has Dreamer in an extreme chinlock. Swagger gives Dreamer the bad mouth in the corner saying he's no champ. Swagger locks in an abdominal stretch. Swagger hits a belly-to-belly but Dreamer kicks out quickly. Swagger is now dominating the match. Swagger is on Dreamer's back but Dreamer runs him face-first into the corner. Dreamer hits a bulldog and a swinging neckbreaker. He ducks a clothesline and hits a reverse neckbreaker for two ... annnnnnnd that's where my DVR stopped.

According to WWE.com, Swagger eventually picked up the win and has earned a future title match with Dreamer.

Going further, Finlay came down again and drilled Dreamer with the Shillelagh. Christian then came down looking for revenge and was thrown out by Swagger, then Finlay creamed Swagger. Hooray.
