RAW: Orton, Legacy end Flair
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

It seems like every other week Iím writing about a RAW headed into a pay-per-view. This time itís Extreme Rules, which used to be ECW One Night Stand, until WWE completely neutered that franchise. Tonight, RAW is stopping in Birmingham, Alabama and the so-called PPV push is on the way.

The show kicks off with Randy Orton and Legacy standing in a steel cage. Orton pimps his steel cage match with Batista this Sunday, and then informs us that Batista will have a steel cage match tonight. The WWE champ will flip a coin to decide which member of Legacy The Animal will face. Cody is the lucky one. Rhodes says he knows what to do. Orton then gives the crowd a preview of Sunday, by walking out of the cage as the champion.

Ric Flair has heard enough. He calls Orton a punk, saying he will call out Orton every week until Orton answers the bell. Orton says Flair is retired; Flair wants Orton to be a man, and challenges him to a fight, not a match, in the parking lot. Orton accepts, and Flair is ready to go right now, heading to the back.

Match #1 Ė Cody Rhodes vs. Batista Ė Steel Cage Match

Cody kicks Batista in the leg, but cannot ram him into the cage. Rhodes tries for a quick escape, but The Animal pulls him off the cage. Batista blocks a DDT, and then tosses Rhodes into the cage. Rhodes is caught with a spear, as Orton heads to ringside. Rhodes is slammed to the mat, as the WWE champ looks on. Rhodes tries to escape, as Batista stares down Orton. Batista catches him, and delivers a Batista Bomb. The Animal covers for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Batista

The Big Show isnít happy that he has been teamed with The Miz tonight to take on John Cena and a random partner. Vicki is going to draw a name at random; actually she has Show do it. Vicki takes a look, and it is Chavo Guerrero. Show tells Chavo he'd better stay out of the way or he will get hurt.

Match #2 Ė Kelly Kelly and Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix w/Rosa Mendes and Maryse

Rosa distracts the ref, so Phoenix can pull Mickie off the apron. Kelly canít make the tag, and Maryse finishes her off with a DDT. Maryse covers for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Beth Phoenix and Maryse

Match #3 Ė Primo and Carlito vs. William Regal and Matt Hardy

Primo gets worked over by both Regal and Hardy early in the match. Primo fights back, but Regal cuts him off with a suplex. Hardy makes a blind tag, dropping the leg twice. Hardy misses a third attempt, and Primo is able to make a hot tag to Carlito. Regal is hit with a springboard back elbow, but hardy breaks the tag. Hardy tries to hit Carlito with his cast, but catches Regal in the back instead. Carlito hits the Backstabber, and covers for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Primo and Carlito

Hardy and Regal have words after the match, but it doesnít lead to anything.

Ric Flair is waiting in the parking lot, and doesnít want to talk to Batista. Flair says he has a lot to prove, to everyone and himself. Flair wants to be Flair one more time.

Regal and Hardy are in the GMís office asking Vicki for another chance. Vicki wants to know why. Regal says they have a plan to help Vicki beat Santino, tonight. Hardy whispers the plan in her ear, and Vicki likes it.

Cena runs into Chavo backstage, and just ignores him.

Match #4 Ė The Miz and The Big Show vs. John Cena and Chavo Guerrero

The Miz touts his undefeated record over John Cena before the match. Before the match starts, Show tells Miz, forcefully, to stay on the apron.

Show hits Cena with a sideslam to start, and then starts to club him with big fists. Cena is slammed, picked up off the mat, and head butted. Show looks for the camel clutch, but Cena counters into the STF. Cena canít lock it in, and Show knocks him from the ring. Miz connects with a cheap shot on the outside, and Show lectures Miz, telling him not to touch him. Cena climbs back into the ring, just to get head butted again. Cena ducks a charge, and tries to slam Show, but falls under the weight. The Miz makes a blind tag, and Show isnít happy. The Miz beats on Cena in the corner. Cena fights back with a shoulder block, and then a sidewalk slam. He follows with the five knuckle shuffle, but Show makes a blind tag, as The Miz is in the attitude adjustment. The ref doesnít see the tag, so Show is forced from the ring, but not after delivering a damaging blow. The Miz tells Show Cena is his, but Show knocks him out. Chavo makes a blind tag, hops in, and covers The Miz.

Winner via pinfall: Chavo Guerrero and John Cena

After the match, Cena hits Chavo with the AA, and then invites Show into the ring. Cena climbs the turnbuckle, but is caught in mid-air with a right. Cena is out, and Show locks in the camel clutch.

Josh Matthews is with US Champion MVP and challenger Kofi Kingston. Apparently they both think they are leaving with the US Title tonight. They both then take some verbal jabs at each other.

Match #5 Ė MVP vs. Kofi Kingston Ė United States Championship Match

Both men lock up to start the match. MVP blocks a kick. Kofi nearly scores a fall with a backslide, and we go to commercial

Kingston fights out of headlock, and connects with a heel kick. MVP responds with a kick to the face. MVP hits the Balliní elbow, but Kofi kicks out. MVP charges into the corner; Kofi side steps and kicks MVP in the face. Kofi takes too much time to set up on the top rope, and MVP connects with a superplex. Kofi kicks out. Both men hit the mat on a double clothesline. Both men get up at eight, and then trade shots. MVP hits a German suplex, but Kofi kicks out, and hits a reverse leg sweep. MVP kicks out, and then ducks Trouble in Paradise. Kofi leaps onto MVPís shoulders and tries to flip him into a pin. MVP drops on Kofi, but Kingston is able to roll through and get the pin and win the US Title. After the match, MVP hands to title to Kingston very graciously.

Winner via pinfall: Kofi Kingston

DiBiase wants to know why Orton is doing this. Ted warns him anything can happen, and he has everything to lose.

Match #5 Ė Vicki Guerrero vs. Santino

Vicki brings buckets of pig slop to the ring, and I am scrambling to find the remote. Santino threatens to throw the slop on Vicki, when Regal and Hardy hit the ring. Santino whips the bucket around, coating everyone in the ring, and probably the first three rows. Regal and Hardy shake off the slop and start to dissect Santino. Hardy crushes him in the head with his cast, leaving Santino out cold. Vicki grabs the other bucket and covers Santino in the pig slop.

No Contest

Now itís time to beg for bucks. I mean push the pay-per-view. The King and Cole are in the ring to run down the card. Operators are standing by! Please, we need your dollars to keep pumping out these mediocre cards!

Orton is looking for Flair in the parking structure. Apparently, Orton thinks Flair is hiding in a car. Instead, Flair just runs up from behind and slams Orton into a steel garage door. Orton is dazed, but does get a shot in. Flair tosses Orton into a steel railing, but Orton recovers and tosses Flair into moving crates. Orton is slammed into a table, and the fights spills into the equipment area and then into the arena. Orton has the upper hand tossing Flair onto the ramp. Orton stomps away at the Nature Boy. Orton tries to toss Flair off the stage, but the Nature Boy counters with a mule kick to the groin. Flair chops away at Orton, and the champ rolls down the ramp. Flair slams Orton into the steel cage around the ring, and then bounces his head off the ring steps. Flair sets up the announce table, and chops Orton onto it. Flair hops on the table and stomps away at Ortonís ankle. Flair then locks in the Figure Four. Legacy finally makes the save, and Flair is overwhelmed by numbers. Rhodes and DiBiase decimate Flair, and drag him into the cage. Orton tells Legacy to lock the door, leaving him alone with Flair. Batista chases away Legacy, but the door is already locked. Batista struggles to get in, as Orton stalks Flair. Orton hits the RKO and stands over Flair. Batista can do nothing by scream at Orton from the outside. Orton steps back for the punt, and connects with Flairís skull. Orton taunts Batista as the show goes to black.
