ECW: Hart Trilogy keeps Finlay guessing
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Sci-Fi: David Hart Smith made a big impact in his debut last week, destroying Finlay with Tyson Kidd and Natalya. Now, Finlay will have his chance for revenge on the Hart Trilogy member in Smith's first ECW match. Should be a good one!

And we are "LIVE!" from Cincinnati, Ohio. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

It's a cold open straight to former ECW Champion Jack Swagger who is sitting on a folding chair in the middle of the ring. He says because of what happened at Judgment Day, he's not leaving the ring until he has justice. Two referees come out and try to get Swagger to move along. He tells them to tell "Blondie" that if she wants him out to come tell him herself. So Tiffany strolls out to the ring. She's somehow mic'd up. She tells him to get out of the ring and that they can discuss it in her office. He says he's not leaving until she makes it right because Christian cheated at both Backlash and Judgment Day (THAT'S NOT FAIR!). Swagger says he's the face of the franchise. Tiffany is just a temp. After some badgering, she says she has the power to make sure he never receives an ECW Championship match again. She then demands that he goes to her office. Swagger swallows his pride and leaves the ring.

Once Swagger leaves the ring, Tiffany apologizes for the incident and kicks it to our first match.

Match #1 - Christian (Toronto, Ontario) vs. ?

Well, Swagger and Christian run into each other on the ramp and Swagger shoves Christian off and Christian goes down holding his knee. He limps to his feet as we go to

Match #1 - Christian (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Paul Burchill (Chelsea, England)

Christian is weary of the knee early, but he is able to go to work on Burchill, who, if you remember correctly, was upset that he wasn't on the show last week. Things go south for Christian when they go to the outside and Burchill slings Christian knee-first into the ring steps. Christian does a nice flip over the steps.

In the ring, Burchill works the knee but has to give up the hold when Christian reaches the ropes. Burchill charges at Christian in the corner, but Christian moves and comes back and absolutely plants Burchill with a tornado DDT. That gets two.

Christian, hobbling on one leg, is having trouble with his offense. With one leg, he hits a flying sunset flip for two. Christian goes for the Killswitch but Burchill hits his knee and hits a nice vertical suplex for two. Christian again hits DJ Gabriel's flying European uppercut and then follows up with the Killswitch for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Christian

Josh Mathews is in the ring with Christian who issues a challenge for the next ECW Championship match to Tommy Dreamer. Time/date TBA.

Swagger is arguing with Tiffany backstage upset about Christian's challenge of Dreamer. Tiffany gives Swagger the rest of the night off so he doesn't get himself in anymore trouble.

Match #2 - Zack Ryder (Long Island, N.Y.) vs. Adam Greene (205 pounds)

OK, Ryder is awesome. His ring pants are half-trunks and half-pants. It is amazing. Ryder wrestles with a headband.

He hits some moves and then hits his now-trademark "WOO, WOO, WOO!" From there, it's quickly over. Ryder hits a legdrop and then puts his knee/shin on the back of Greene's head and grabs the arm and falls back. Just see it because I can't explain it.

Winner via pinfall: Zack Ryder

Backstage, the Hart clan gathers and David Hart Smith says he's better than his dad ever was.

Kozlov comes out on the stage in his military uniform. He says he is the greatest fighting force in ECW. He will not be stopped, there will be no retreat, blah blah blah. At least this isn't a Kozlov squash.

Breaking news in the back, as Gregory Helms is outside Tiffany's office. He says the ECW Championship match between Christian and Tommy Dreamer has not only been accepted, it's been signed for this Thursday on Superstars (oh boy, I'm sure Matt Mackinder will be having a field day with that one). Helms then welcomes Dreamer in for an interview. Dreamer wants to thank Christian for the opportunity because he didn't have to it. He says his time is running out and he will not waste this opportunity. He will become ECW Champion.

Match #3 - David Hart Smith (Calgary, Alberta) vs Finlay (Belfast, Northern Ireland)

Smith comes out to an awesome remix of Bret Hart's music.

Finlay takes it to the young Smith in the early going, It's a rather lucid affair, as it's mostly mat-based armlocks, headlocks, etc.

We're back and Smith has Finlay in a chinlock. He then hits a backbreaker. Smith is really going to work on Finlay's back. He locks in a camel clutch then an abdominal stretch. He goes back to the camel clutch and then works a headlock on the mat. Finlay starts to fire up and is getting the better of it when Natalya tosses Smith her boot while Tyson Kidd is distracting the referee. Smith wallops an unsuspecting Finlay with it and hits a back suplex that ends the match.

Winner via pinfall: David Hart Smith
